It was a sizeable chunk of memory for every page render, and we only saw about 1500 uses of it per day. Getting rid of it helped us clean up the architecture.
If only there were a bright Gaian that was handy with Greasemonkey!

heart A GM replacement is certainly feasible and probably simple, but the forum links would probably have to be hand-entered rather than pulled from the site, just to make it easier to code and also save on the memory load / hits to Gaia's servers ...'course, that would mean frequent updates whenever a new forum was added, but
that's all right... *goes off to speculate*
