The forum dropdown list... gone? [answered]

At the bottom of most forum pages -- including the main forum page, individual threads, and My Posts -- there used to be a dropdown menu that listed every single Gaia forum and allowed you to easily switch between them. I'd frequently use it to switch forums while browsing a thread, so that I wouldn't have to return to the main menu and/or drill down to various subforums.

Is there a reason it's now gone? (I've checked in multiple browsers and under multiple accounts, so I know it's not just a bug.) If it produced major server load, or browser lag, or was little used, I understand -- but I'll miss it. sad

It was a sizeable chunk of memory for every page render, and we only saw about 1500 uses of it per day. Getting rid of it helped us clean up the architecture.

Oh right, it is gone.

I actually disliked it., Sometimes when I's use my mouse's scrollwheel, it's click the menu and I'd suddenly get sent to a different forum. I used it maybe three times on purpose, and a dozen accidentally.

I see. I figured something like that had to be the reason, but confirmation is always good.

And mwah. heart A GM replacement is certainly feasible and probably simple, but the forum links would probably have to be hand-entered rather than pulled from the site, just to make it easier to code and also save on the memory load / hits to Gaia's servers ...'course, that would mean frequent updates whenever a new forum was added, but that's all right... *goes off to speculate*

Thank you Panagrammic for posting. I asked about this in the QA a few days ago and some people said they still had it, while another said they did not. I thought it was a browser mistake.

oh well, I did use it quite frequently, but I guess I can use the new search as the alternative, but I am use to going to the bottom once I reach the end of a thread.
