There are other ways to earn money for a site than forcing people to pay real money. I agree with this all.

Well, Gaia, I am neither rich, nor a sucker, and you had best believe that you will never see another cent of my money again.

This.
I recently checked on a few of my wish list items and nearly wretched. The worst was 300k to 20m in a little less than a month. Items I paid 50k for are now 800k-2m. Oh, the days when questing meant something..
Even if the daily chance things offered better items I'd feel like Gaia at least showed some appreciation for people who actually use the site, even if they don't want to spend actual cash on pixels.

Oh Gaia, we had a good run but I think it's time I starting seeing other websites.

I agree. Can we stop getting items worth less than one gold? That would be nice. Things were all right until Lanzer stepped down- anyone else notice that? Even though things were not great under Lanzer, the moment we had a CEO, Gaia became nothing more than a cash cow. And this is where Gaia loses its edge: we are a community, not a company!

used to be that if I had 9 ******** announcements that meant I hadnt been on in several days, I have that many after 15 hours now.

I kind of expect those announcements to double now that Gaia will be releasing Animal items directly, in bundles, RIG's, recolors and re-releases of the human counterparts. I just....ughhhh.... emotion_facepalm

I agree wholeheartedly. It's one thing to offer the occasional premium item, but it seems as though all the items worth buying lately require real cash to purchase. And yet, what do we get for our money? Look at how many years it took the developers to add a second area to towns, or new regions to zOMG. And why bother to have the world map if all it's for is to look pretty. If Gaia Online wants to become a hybrid of IMVU and Facebook, then they can do it without me. As my signature implies, I came here to roleplay and have fun, not to be fleeced of my hard-earned money.

Gaia Online, I am not a cash cow to be milked, nor a golden sheep to be fleeced. And if the powers that be here can't understand that, then it's time for me to go elsewhere. And as for inactive/banned/unwanted accounts, why the hell can't they modify the user database to allow account deletion? If World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy XI, and pretty much every other MMO in existence can do it without their systems crashing, why can't virtual communities like Gaia or social media sites like Facebook do it as well? Or would it take an act of the US Congress to get things changed?

Like the first post said, I'm curious WHY they need so much money all the sudden. 7 years ago when I was super active, they had 1 announcement per week and the site ran just fine. Now its 5 announcements per day and all for cash items.

I logged in today at school around noon to check out my Gaians. I log back in 5 hours later and there are flippin' 5 Announcements!? scream Not to mention they are all Cash Shop items, recolors, and everything that's completely unaffordable. I know I could just block some of the announcements-- but seriously? I'd be more willing to actually buy GC stuff if you weren't overpricing it and shoving it in our faces.

When I got bored with Gaia I would not log online until... HOLIDAY EVENTS~!! cat_4laugh It's when the forums BOOMed, the towns FLOODed, the NPC's got dressed, and new activities and storylines came into play for the Holiday Events. I loved events on here. So, filled with joy and festivities. Lately, it seems like they are bullshizzing the one thing that brings me back to this website. No story, no love, no comic for Valentines Day. Just a forum and plenty of free items. What happened? What is happening? I don't want my precious site to die. emotion_kirakira

(Doctor Malus) There were other ways to earn money. Gaia used to sell ACTUAL Real Life items. I bought an ORLY!? hat years ago. I'd buy more stuff like that. Actual tangible items for money. Not money for pretty pixels. I'd pay for stuff that is actually worth something. They should think about bringing back the stores. then again they'd have to hire people to make the items, buy materials, etc... just an idea. Looks like they are making a lot out of the CS anyway...

Gaia is not being sneaky anymore when it comes to earning money. They'd rather release things that give them money directly rather than open up new areas in zOMG and Towns for the active community's satisfaction.

As for account deletion, it might be a database issue. It's not my area of expertise. confused
With gaia releasing more ads for gcash looks like I was wrong about them being on the fix -.-

"Dear God, What is it like in your funny little brains?

I agree with pretty much everything that everyone has already said.

I don't really have too much to add, other people have spoken out much more eloquently than I.
However, I would just like to add my story about this site.
I came here back in '07; my best friend bragged to me about this really cool site and she thought it would be great if her and I could talk and have fun here. Needless to say, I agreed.
I've spent years on this site, enjoying all the little games (before zOMG and the like), fun community events, manga, and items.
In '09, I met the perfect man in a charity forum. I flirted pretty heavily (something I'm still embarrassed about), and we connected. Although we have yet to meet in person (money is pretty tight, not to mention the fact that I live in Florida and he lives in Canada), our relationship is strong. This September will be our 5 year anniversary. 5 years people.
We moved on from Gaia several years ago, now using things like aim, skype, and kik to communicate every single day. However, Gaia is still very dear to my heart, it will always be a place of happiness for me since I found him here.
I still wish he would log on more often, but he has pretty much abandoned this site.

I wish Gaia would stop making things impossible to buy with gold.
I've never wanted to use my money on virtual items. But I would be more willing if I knew what it was being used for and if the cost of GC items was reduced.
All hope for me ever spending my money on Gaia is lost. I fully support this thread and I will never use GC unless I get it from free offers.

Gaia, fix your s**t. The suggestions in this thread are wonderful and should be considered.
I will still be around until you completely shut down. But don't disappoint me by doing such a thing.
Fix what desperately needs to be fixed and become the site you used to be. Pay attention to your community.

It must be so boring!"

Feral Lunatic

Yea I was recently chatting with someone about how EXPENSIVE s**t on this website is becoming. Inflation is hitting this website HARD!!! I have been here since Dec. 2004, though this is my 2005 account. You were considered LUCKY if you had even 50K or 100K. I mean there wasn't many cool items like there is now but SERIOUSLY, WTF is with all these CRAZY prices. Some of the s**t in the Cash Shop are $10-140 (REAL MONEY)…. and for what…PIXELS!? That's insane!! They're focusing too much on people BUYING their gold than earning it like the old days… I think greed is taking over this website and we're reaping their benefits. Less involving events occur on the website now, more ads, and higher prices. Anyone notice how FAST Gaia has been pumping out new item? I don't like it sad It's too overwhelming and I don't want to leave the site because I DO like it, I just think Gaia needs to REALLY listen to the feedback we're giving them. PLEASE Gaia Admins if you're reading this, make some changes. Have more cool events happen, things that make us feel involved again. Like when Gambino was in a mysterious mess and we had to use the world map. I was in a forum chatting with some friends in CB and several of my posts only earned 1 gold….REALLY!? How stingy!! New comers don't stand a chance at buying anything for their avatars unless they spend real money for gold. sad It really does make me sad...

Fuzzy Camper

Gaia is spiralling down into a pitiful death and we're all watching it happen - and the staff does nothing but keep quiet, pretend like they care about Gaians, and do everything in their own interests.
EVERYONE can see that all this GCash s**t is becoming way too greedy. They are literally recoloring the s**t out of everything. $75 for old ideas.

Apparently if you say anything bad with the name of the CEO you can get banned?

Thanks for making Gaia communist, 'He who shall not be named'.
