Maybe I'm slow, but this just hit me: is there a possibility that GC finally went to sale due to people protesting it? That seems a bit unlikely compared to them just trying to wring more money out of people or trying to justify the Halloween sale, but it's still food for thought.
I'm hoping this is the case!! Because if they are losing sales, they'll HAVE to start listening to us. They're certainly not getting new buyers anymore (in june, and when flynn looked like a one time thing, I think there were, but everyone realized the rarity was a scam), and they alienate the big spenders and even the moderate spenders, and alienate completely the non-spenders... their model will HAVE to change. or... else. ;s

I don't expect everyone to get this point: As long as they are concerned with GC over all other content in any capacity whatsoever, it is a way to exploit Gaians and whatever trust they may have.

Think about this: How much GC were you willing to buy before the sale? How much would you be willing to buy during the sale?

The only way that second number is going to be lower is if you think you can get everything you want with GC in one trip. Since the interest in gold-available content is a lot lower and the amount of new gold-shop and interesting event/game products is near zero, pretty much everyone with money is a target of the sale (and probably would spend a fair bit, even on modest-priced purchases, if they could). And if the sale encouraged you to buy when you would not have bought before, that is preying on your impulses rather than your overall interests.

No, a GC sale is not what we occupy Gaia for. The sale is bread and circuses. Our cause, among others, is making this site great for payers and non-payers alike.

do you think gaia is even going to listen? I'm signing regardless but the way things are going, I'm thinking this whole sub forum will be taken down.

Then people will just start sending angry letters to Gaia HQ. emotion_awesome
They can't hide from us no matter how hard they try.

We're not 100% sure but we feel like the email, usertalk or whatever it was, is just collecting emails and is ignored now. And a few people have already sent out letters via the post office, so we'll see what happens I guess.

But if Gaia thinks they have turmoil now, they'll be in for something else if they think they can get away with trying to close down Site Feedback... lol

You know, I just realized something kind of sad.
This is the first event that I'm not really participating in on Gaia and it's a Halloween one too. : (
It just isn't fun.
It's sad because a lot of people I know were banking on the Halloween event to be that one saving grace before they gave up and quit the site altogether, so there go a few more friends...

I support this. Quite fed up with ads to spend GC being shoved in my face.
I miss the old system, where MC letters were 5000 gold and donations to the site resulted in one letter per $2.50
I donated a lot of money back then, but since this GC atrocity began, I haven't donated a cent.
Whoa, whoa, whoa.
What is that anti-GC mood bubble you have? =o

Judging from MP which is bound to only really have half the real number (as people usually go to exchange... and also keep for themselves),

At least
5 dj studios headphones (15k GC),
15 purchases of red devil miniwings (10k GC),
5 purchases of azrael's wings (10k GC),
5 purchases of lucifer's wings (30k) and
5 azrael's wings (10k GC).

At $100 per 10000GC, that's $100*(75+150+50+150+50) = $47,500 easily in the last week(..? haven't been on the site much for obvious reasons) or so from one-off purchases from individual users.

And that doesn't even cover the 25 lamenting lucies bought, the angelic halos, in-excess-of-1000 flynn's chests bought since last month (estimated by sales per day - there were 500 sold on MP alone on day of release lol) and 4000+ flynn's booties (over 4000 sold on MP on day of release...)

Really, the community does it to themselves.
And yet they ask for it to stop rolleyes
You have to realize that the community is very split right now.
There are some people who don't want it to stop at all because they're rolling in the riches.
Then there are people like us who aren't feeding it and want it to stop.
I think there are very few people left in the middle at this point with how long this bullshit has been going on.

Paying Gaia users generally spend about $30 USD every month to purchase Gaia cash.
Even those under the age of 18 can now safely spend cash thanks to the agreement with Virtual Piggy inc.
This means that 26 million new users are added to the pool of funding!

We can't ignore that fact that Gaia Interactive is now a leading company in its own market. There's money to be made!
Since the coming of cash I must admit the artwork has taken a leap forward. Items have multiplied like hyperactive bunnies.
But they haven't been succesful in choosing the future road of success (heck, even this thread is proof).
The current commercial status drives them and makes them cut down anything not profitable enough.
The old crowd is starting to get fed up and leave and the 'new' crowd isn't as rooted to the site as the small community was.
So I don't really expect Gaia to live for another 10 years.

What does it cost for Gaia to run a year? About $25 million. Seems like they have more than sufficient funding for it though.

Gaia Online had raised $11 million in a third round of funding to merely complete 'zOmg!'.
I was stupid enough to spend cash on Heralds of Chaos cards as I loved the game. Which is now deleted and not refunded.
Monster Galaxy was another game I supported, only to have my beloved Moga's deleted as well.
The terms of service cover it all, of course, but I have lost my trust in GaiaCash.

..Yet they dare complain I use Adblock to get rid of an unoriginal dying way of old-school advertising.

Also -- Remember the implementation of the quest system and their promises of 'fun'?
Quests on Gaia are now dedicated to profitable promotional purposes. Granting items related to sponsors.

Gaia Interactive must keep striving for new features and originality to stay on top of its competitors, I get that.
I know I am sort of a bad user 'sabotaging' financial ties with AdBlock and no longer trusting cash, but it has come to that point now.
Either they figure out long term plans once and for all, or I may log off some day and never return.
Where did you get your numbers?

Quote:
Make hoarding of large quantities of premium items a bannable offense. A serious warning system would have to be in place.

Exqueeze me? stare I'll collect and keep as many items as I want.

What? You can be banned for what Gaia pretty much intends on you doing?

And yeah. When I get an item worth 100k+ (heck, even 50k+) I'll be darn well keeping it for a good long time.
JamesWN
Let me explain this idea to you guys, and also keep in mind that all suggestions are put on the front page. This is not a list of demands, just ideas.

We're talking items that are premiums, like MCs and EIs, not all items.
And by large quantities, we're talking owning like 20+ of an item.
I don't know about you guys, but I see no reason to hoard a lot more of an item than there are even poses on it you can wear.

Gaia does not intend you to hoard items for a profit.
It does intend you to quest these items and keep them as a point of pride.
There's a difference between wanting items for yourself and just hoarding them to manipulate the market later.

The story of Gary Schofield's Gaia Interactive, as told by its employees

Why do I even need to say any more? The ones who had to deal with management can say it more meaningfully than I ever could.

NOTE: If this is the "he who must not be named" in the sense that the typed name is actively monitored on the site like Lord Voldemort's uttered name was in the world of Harry Potter, so be it. I'm still saying the name. We have no reasonable need to be afraid of the most responsible person for the well-being of this site, and by extension the communities we have formed within it. If Mr. Schofield is that actively antagonistic toward his own users, well, the battle for an understanding has already been lost--hasn't it?
It's funny because this link WAS on the front page, but Gaia edited it out of my post. rolleyes
