Ah, that is quite interesting. Although, that is also highly confusing for people searching tags.

One would think they would have programmed exceptions in for words such as glove and sleeve, which are, well, exceptions to the rule of "-fe" to "-ves". There are a few such exceptions in English, but, well I don't think so many as would be relevant.

Alternatively they could just tag sleeves and not have a singular form at all? idk.

I just mentioned it offhand because I spotted what appeared to be a typo. Ideally, for that one I mentioned (glofe) it would be "gloves" anyway, as there are two gloves on that item XD

Agreed. It's confusing, but it covers their bases. Like you said, the certain plural worlds, (-ves, -a) are uncommon, but a blanket coding is definitely easier than knitpicking every single word and writing exceptions. It's algorithmic - if there is a word that is even remotely plural, do the operation to create a "singular form" of the word, English or not.

Well, "gloves" is a tag on the item you mentioned, "Glofe" wouldn't be there if "gloves" wasn't.

For the exceptions, more having a "IF X then do Y, ELSE do Z" type code.

X could be the list of exception words, (sleeves) Y would be the variant singular word (sleeve), and Z would just be the default wordlist

And I don't think they'd have to do every single word in the dictionary separately though certainly, they could do so with a wordlist of plural and a wordlist of singular. Check both lists for a match, if it's a match, then put the matching singular or plural. If it's not, then don't. If someone needs to add a new word, have some sort of code that can do a one off check retroactively for that word and add it on old entries.
