I don't actually have a problem with the fish dying, i just don't want to pay real money for them.

I agree with this. I also think they should allow users to put the fish back in their inventory. ((I know I sound kinda dumb when I say this but I didn't realize until it was too late)) Had I known that the shop items can only be bought with Cash I wouldn't have put them in the tank in the first place and I would have sold everything off. Now I can't get rid of them, they're going to die and what a waist.
If there's no way to improve the health of the fish without getting more items from the shop then that needs to be fixed as well. Not all of us can afford the gold to buy from other people nor the money to buy in the real world. I second that opinion Panda. It's not fair to those who can't spend that kind of money on something that will eventually die. At least the other cash shop items don't disappear if they aren't equipped so many times or whatever. We should have the option to get rid of them if we don't want them.

Hi,

I found a petition for making gold items for the Aquariums. Aquarium Gold Petition

I made a post there that I'd like to post here. It's rather long but I think the suggestions I made in it, especially near the end, fit with what you are wanting here.

I hope you don't mind. biggrin

Several similar petitions exist. And this is not a scam, its life. People pay for perishable items every day. Need I say more?

I, Dlen Isolde, sign this petition.

I just got here so someone has probably already responded to this. But I have to say something.

Gaia is not real life. It is a play area.
A place to relax, have fun, visit, and make your avatar look nice.

Gaia itself claims to be a FREE site. Gaia arranged for people, who put time into it, to earn gold they can use to buy stuff for their avies. That was their (Gaia's) choice. So they have created an expectation for those who come here to be able to be a part of each factor of Gaia to some extent without having to pay for it.

When they were telling us about the Aquarium, they made it sound like there would be gold items because they were putting a store in the Gold area and a special one in the Cash only area.

Then when the Aquarium came out we found that absolutely nothing was sold for gold, only cash. This is contrary to what this site promotes.

Some have rebuked those who complain about this, saying that Gaia needs to earn a profit to keep the site up. Yes this is true. But they already have many ways to do this. It was not necessary to make aquariums 100% cash only. They could have created some basic items for the aquarium that can be bought with gold. Then, as they claimed in their announcement, have special items in the cash shop. This is, after all, how they made it sound like it was going to be. Then those who can access Gaia cash can buy the special items all they want, and those who are unable to (and there are a great number who can't, that was one of the reason they were attracted to Gaia) can at least have a cute basic aquarium.

The second gripe is about how the fish die. This was ill-advised. Because, since they die so soon and Gaia wants real money for them, then they're too expensive for something that last for as short a time as they do. It's a waste of money. I'm not about to spend real money for an item that will only last a couple of weeks. This is not real life and a disappearing fish is not necessary to live. As for "real life", "real life" fish can live for years, not weeks, if properly taken care of. I know this from experience. Once again, if they wanted a profit from these fish, there are other ways to have gone about it.

Example: For Gaia Gold give us some basic fish that don't die. Their emotions are affected by the way we take care of them. An endless free supply of food like we have right now is good for these type of fish. It keeps the fish happy enough to get something from the Overseer. The happier the fish the better the item. Then, if we want the fish to be SUPER EXTRA happy so we can get something SUPER EXTRA nice from the Overseer, that's when you have Special Fish Food in the cash shop that can make the fish feel "Absolutely Wonderful" and the Overseer then gives you something "Absolutely Wonderful" the next time he opens. Then, just like our Houses, and Cars and even our Avatars, there can be special items and fish that can only be gotten in Cash shop.

Thus an incentive to spend cash and yet the poor can still enjoy the aquarium. biggrin

I'm thinking of adding this to Gaia's Aquarium feedback thread. What do you think of my suggestion?
I like this thread because it's positive. No ugly ranting so far. Just some really nice, well thought out input. This is useful feedback. And more likely to be listened to. biggrin
If Gaia persists in having the fish die, then they need to:

A: Make them live longer.

B: Have a cause and effect for why they die, i.e. they live longer the better you take care of them.

C. Have a way of putting them into suspended animation for when you go on vacation or whatever other reasons for not being able to log onto Gaia for extended periods of time. Perhaps turn Barrett's tank into a suspended holding bin. This would also allow you to exchange different types of fish for different looks and different aquarium environments.

.there are always two people in every picture.

I agree. D<

I was so excited about my aquarium. D:
The cash thing really bugs me. Like, insanely. I get that they need money, but hey, no one told them to make everything expensive flash s**t. Their choice, and we suffer for it.
I like the two options. Kinda like you can use cash to buy things in other shops?
It shouldn't be cash exclusive. We've already got the Cash Shop eating up that. =/

.the photographer and the viewer. x
Having to pay for limited time items here is nonsense. Gaia is getting greedy.
My suggestion is thus:

Since the only way (currently) to get fish is with GC in Phin Phang (I'm not counting the goldfish in the DC), why not have the Overseer thing grant you Cash instead of gold that cannot be put towards sustaining the tank population/decorations, etc?

Yes yes, you can buy things in the MP (for much more than the crappy 30g mine just gave me), but it would make more sense to get cash out of the oyster than gold, given the whole setup of how Aquariums are running.

Just my $.02.
3, Life span problem

c) Should have an AFK feature - people will need to go on holiday sometimes and its hardly fair if thier fish die (this would start from a week up so as no cheating would take place)

This one could be simple: any day you don't log on to Gaia, your fish don't age. You go away to school for 3 months, and you find your aquarium just as you left it.

I really like this suggestion...I personally think that it should be tweeked a bit...maybe make it like the tickets? Gold Mountain is Tickets and the Aquarium have its own little sustaining payment system, that way neither gold or cash are involved and we would have a new way to focus play?
whee Just a thought ninja You know...so you can get fish happy gradually like a real game than like all at once cause you buy everything all at once, taking the fun out of the game...
If basic fishes (and decorations) were to cost gold in the Phin Phang shop, then they should decrease the chances of gaining the item from the DC (or taken it out of the DC). Since the frequency of getting a goldfish is so high, a person would not buy the same item with gold from Phin Phang. Rather, they sell it back to the Phin Phang shop for half price (thus, uneffective as a goldsink).
