Welcome to Gaia! ::

Just adding my two cents worth. I also would like to see the 1-10 star system back.

It's not my fault if in God's plan...

I wish you'd fix up the problems there, such as the fact that some people manage to 'cheat' on arenas, that is to say make say 12 people vote a 5 on it and then win, like this week.

...He made the devil so much stronger than a man!

User ImageYes. This issue definitely needs fixing.

        Equal exposure, please.
I only have one big big gripe, which is about the House Arena. I used to visit it everyday voting, commenting, etc. Now I can't even open it. Why? You increased the size, which makes the flash bigger, and you put other houses to "spotlight" on the side, which makes one page RIDICULOUSLY SLOW TO LOAD. I have a damn fast broadband, and it takes me forever to open ONE entry on there. Before you had a small screen and no previews of others so it was pretty quick. Please fix this somehow. Either change the thing back to a smaller size or take off the House Spotlight or Previews or whatever.

Arenas are NOT FINISHED AT ALL, not when people with fast broadband CAN'T OPEN AN ENTRY UNDER THIRTY OR SO SECONDS. Please don't take anyone off of it.
I just would like to say Thanks for the cosplay arenas,
But I would not like to see the same avatars winning again and again,
Rem from Death Note has been entered alot with the same avatar,
Its already won twice (1-original, 2-cosplay)
Alot of different Death Note L- Lawliet enter with the same avatar over and over so its hard to find newer cosplays to rate

For some reason I made an entry over 2 weeks ago before the deadline and it only showed up this week. I don't know why the entry skipped a week.

How about keeping people from putting up Cosplay avatars from popular anime like Naruto, Bleach, Inu Yasha, Death Note, and DBZ? That would clear a lot of the avatar arena of suck.

I really don't mind repeat cosplay in the cosplay arena. Putting up limits as to who cosplays what actually is rather restrictive, and could keep some very keen cosplays out. The Cloud that won week 48 is better than your average n00b, and is good reason why all cosplays should be allowed.
Put a time limit between votes. The current format can be easily botted.

And i've had my say, you bastards in administration and development who think there's nothing wrong.
Love will leave you...

I personally don't like the zoomed in feature on the avatars. It looks really bad. Also, the current rating system of five stars should really be changed back to 1-10 it was much better.
Pan, you have no right to tell me to tone it down when you had the most ABSOLUTELY wrong tone to begin with. The fact of the matter is that you came across with a sense of "we are washing our hands clean of this mess" and to be honest, no matter WHAT you say at this point, you can't get rid of that image until Arena is absolutely fixed as can be.

Along with previously mentioned:

Refunds must be given to people for weeks where manual restarts were required for any day past TUESDAY on the condition that they were logged as entered.

Refunds must also be given where the Arena competition weeks had ground to a halt and required a restart. This should be logged

Comments need to be captcha-enforced as well.

Some strong reactions in the thread. I just wanted to point out that the very reason that we posted this thread was to try and get your feedback about what needed to be done in arenas; this our attempt to be open and transparent about our plans. So, please keep the feedback coming, but if some of you could tone down the "omg you are so stupid" comments, it would be appreciated.

Some comments about issues raised:
- anyone want to point to an example of the "3.99" glitch? i haven't seen any of this for myself so i don't quite know what's going on
- people are mixed on 5 star vs. 10 rating for entries, but to be honest I don't think we'll go back to a 10 point rating scale. 10 star gives a much better definition of one's rating.
- lots of complaints about the current tabs in arenas. Previously, we had tabs that highlighted the highest rated entries -- and what we saw was that only popular entries were getting votes and there was a good deal of downvoting. And you saw this 3 months too late

So, we changed the tabs, but it looks like the new scheme is making it possible for entries to fly through without many votes, which is even worse. Yup

My inclination at this point is to go to one tab, and on the tab is either a a) totally random selection, or b) random selection biased for entries that haven't received many votes yet. Suggestions welcome. Why not both? One can be labeled Random and the other something along the lines of Hidden Talent

- reporting feature, especially for the cosplay and original avatar arenas, seems to be needed Not just a reporting feature but a better reporting SYSTEM. A report i filed in my gallery's comments was never processed or even found. We also need more moderators for the forum and Arena itself - ACTIVE moderators
- the gold payout was disabled for a number of weeks after the new arenas rolled out... but we went back and paid out everyone that had won -- or, at least, I think we did, because I asked a couple of users directly, and they said that they had been paid.

oh i like 3nodding

For the "spotlight" tab, I think it should be focused on entries which haven't received many votes. I already said that, but seeing as you asked specifically, i'll say it again.

I like the Five-Star system. I always found it hard to work with the Ten-Star system. A fix may be allowing users to vote half-a-star. That way, there are only five stars, but ten options within the stars.

Thankyou about the Reporting business. It would also help if the Cosplay arena had a definition for Cosplay, to help people submit into the right arena.

Its a shame you're not getting much feedback on the drawing/writing arena's though...

Another minor thing which sorta has something to do with the arenas but not really. The quick links at the bottom of each page still link to the old arenas. Any chance of changing that, and taking the old arenas off Gaia entirely? I think the old Arenas should be wiped entirely, unless that mucks up Gaia's programming somehow.
Half a star may actually be better. "Not quite 4 but not quite 5 either" ... could work!

I actually wouldn't mind THREE tabs.

Tab 1 being avatars that haven't had many votes or comments
Tab 2 being popular avatars... not necessarily the highest rated but the ones getting the most comments and votes [good or bad]
And Tab 3 being random so that the middle range of avatars don't fall off the map.

I lean more towards totally random, but I'm a totally random kind of gal. wink

Really, just do anything that evens the playing field vote-wise. What's the point of entering the arena if no one is even going to see your entry?
