Anyway....

Journals are one of my favorite parts of the site. As we all know, journals have taken the backburner for other features on Gaia. I myself am so disgruntled at this injustice! Sad enough to make a suggestion SF thread: one I have never done before! scream

But, in this sense, I hope that some of the features I ask for will be considered when making an update to journals. At the very least I can help give some perspective on different things I and other gaians may like in a new update.

I haven't seen another thread like this. If there has been one, forgive me. I'm not very active these days. crying

Journal Templates: We all have a rectangular shape for our journal. Well, what if we wanted to have a different box? Maybe a star, or a few stars that extend down. Such as:

Star Journal

I did it in 5 minutes. dontlaughplzlol. crying

There can be others. Circles, ink spots....and comments can be different as well.

Maybe we can make it so that we have an image that overlaps the journal box so we can write on it? surprised idunoideas.

Journal Type: Auto-formatted text for journals. Personalized texting styles specified for a user.


Buttons: (Include: Journal Listing, My Journal, Entries, Preferences) New buttons? The same ones but maybe a different text and color?


Journal Borders: (Include: Post Border Color, Comment Border Color, Headline Font Color) New colors? Rainbow, lavender, turquoise etc.

Rebuttal for Customization: Some may not want customization. They may compare it to other "similar" websites or it may take forever loading for some people.

**Overall Suggestions**

Comments: An expansion of the 2000 character limit?: I don't know if this can be done. There never was a limit due to a glitch (it was -there- but didn't work for a while, excluding emoticons, iirc). I'm sure there is a need for it, but I wish to expand it to beyond 2k if that is possible. sad

Oh! Oh! Also, can there be a way for a...user to have the option to comment already? Say, I make a journal entry. When my friend opens up the journal there will be a box to add a comment already. That way they don't have to click the button to "add" a comment. I think they would be more inclined to make a comment if they didn't have to click on the button. iduno. sad


Journal Title: My friends all have a name to their journal. Like "Sevi Rais's Journal", except I'm the kind of weirdo that loves changing the title of my journal. But I have to go to my preferances to change the title. Maybe there can be an option of changing our title when we're submitting the post? Like a box that is automatically checked, but i can be unchecked if one wants to change the title.

But this doesn't have to be done. It would probably only benefit me anyway. xd


Journal Header: This can also be the same as the above. I always change the header of my journal depending on the subject. Maybe I can change it when I'm submitting my entry?

In fact both the header and the title can be some where near the bottom. Like an after thought: "Do you want to change the header or the title? (yes or no)" if you choose yes you'll be led to another screen to change it. If not then you'll have your entry submitted.

Journal Header: Personally I'd like to be able to put in a background using a simple URL bar to place it then choose custom colors for text easilly vs our current methods of changing text color.


Journal Placement: Maybe I want to have my avatar on the top of my journal and my journal underneath, to the left or the to right?


Journal Listing: When I go to the listing I have to click on an option of "Friendslist, All or Subscription". Instead, can my friendslist be automatically uploaded? If I wanted to change to my "subscriptions" or "all" I can do it. I just want the friendslist already uploaded so that I don't have to click on it every time.

I suppose, we could have an option in our "preferances" that asks which journal listing we want listed automatically. (Afterthought) @___@;

Journal Private Options: Have individual journal entries be friends only, private or public. This way we can have more control on which journal entries people see and which they do not.

Me: Additionally there can be an option for the whole journal to be private, friends only or public.

Comments: When I delete my entries I cannot delete them comletely from the list. They will be deleted by itself but it still shows up in my entry list. crying

Of course, this is another way for a mod to view deleted entries, I don't want to see it. I deleted it for a reason and seeing it there confuses me on whether it is gone or not. I think it should only be visable to the mods and not the users.


Editting Comments: Have it so that it doesn't take a whole minute or so to submit an edit. It takes forever because of the comment flood! crying


Submitting a Post: When submitting a post that is over the 2k character limit, an error pops up and it will not submit the entry. On top of that it erases the entry made! Instead, if the 2k character limit is still imposed, I wish for the original message to come up if it is over 2k characters. This way we will be able to edit out the amount of characters necessary to make a post rather than copying and pasting the old message and hoping we remember all the emoticons involved (or typing up a new message all together).

Journal Listing: All the updated journals should be on the first page of the friendslist (only?). That way we don't have to go through all 2, 3 or more pages of journals to find the updated ones.

I'm not sure, though. I haven't seen any journals full out customized like how profles are.

If I titled it 'Yay! New puppy!' and my entries showed the titles first, then I wouldn't have to search for it. ^_^

You know how people want posts to be auto-formatted? Something kinda like that. But with journals. It exists, it just hasn't been implemented for users. I guess they've been "testing" it since journals release? neutral
