Whoot, got off of work and time to make my own feedback before looking through the thread colors my perceptions :3
Infernal Spirit: I was starting to lose hope in this item, but the last couple of evolutions have totally redeemed it. We're not drowning in armor this time, except for the bustier (omfg LOVE) and the mail, but at least they're complete on their own, for the most part. I like the darker colors much more than the ruddy brown/red we were getting. The flames look great and the necklace is REALLY pretty. I doubt I'll use the hoods or shield much, but they're well done and a great inclusion.
Diapered Egg: Still keeping with the flames and hearts, I still like it, especially the pretty pink crown. The cupid is adorable, of course, and I'll be excited to see what else we get. Maybe more wings to match what we got from the holy poo. I'm SO glad we didn't have a crap-ton of phases with the egg cracking XD.
Nano-C: I'll finally admit to being glad I didn't sell this EI when the poses were nothing but ugly guns and such in the beginning phases. It's really got quite a few great poses. The eyes, the ear piece, the automail powered arms... I like everything about this evolution except the sentinals, but I haven't liked those from the start so that's no big deal.
Anima: OMFG ANIMA 2! I must, MUST get gaia art cuddling that thing. What a cute little robot! The animus 2 didn't get that same reaction from me, but it's still nicely done. Not sure I like the bunny-robot helmets, since that's what they look like to me, but the headphones, spirit eye, and gloves are simply fantastic. I hate the legs though. They look really awkward on the avatar, like it's trying to re-create the shapely legs we got from the Alruna, but ending up a little more squat. I think it's the downward scoop on the boots that creates what looks strange to me... not sure.
And last but not least... the final evolution of
Jinxi: So many pretty clothing items! The "wings", tattoos, collars and aura are all among my favorites, the shaman dress is also quite pretty. The staff is a little awkward, but still fun... *looks at tattoos again* ^____^ Love! I wish we got them in the red and a darker color too, just so it's easier to match and mix the different color schemes. In fact, I'm really surprised we didn't get the tattoo in red as well. It must have lost in the color vote that Gem had. I ALMOST got upset when I saw more date poses, thinking "bloody hell, not again", but changed my mind. This item DID have a story. Jinxi and the Shaman had their whole love rejection/revenge thing going on, so I'm glad they're there (though I do wish we could equip them together, either both with your avi or using the "you are jinxi" and be able to equip the shaman and have her visible.
Gogh Reed: It's a-a-...MINI EVOLUTION?! 8DDD!! It's not that this item is something spectacular (it IS cute though) but I am so happy to see mini-evos come back. I think Ethe is trying very hard on this item. There were issues over her previous item, Fausto's Bottle, issues I'm sure she's quite aware of, so not only do I think she's trying extra hard on this item, but she's had time to observe pixel powerhouses at work, see what works and doesn't work and things that users love. One thing that's pretty obvious, we love us some mini-evos, and we got very sad/upset when they were put aside. Peppertea totally spoiled us with those, but I'm glad she stepped the premium items up like that. Good job, Ethe! Definitely learn from pepper's example, because so far I think the urn is still one of the most beloved of EIs, not only because of the crazy amount of poses, but because she took the time to make recolors for everything, showing a level of commitment in professionalism I wish we saw in all of our items. I know she doesn't want to have all EIs held up to the Urn Standard, but it is very hard not to, sometimes.
Overall: I think this week's EI was very successful, for the most part. Quite a few items evolved and did a good job at it. Jinxi's end was sad, and as always we users see some missed potential, but overall I think it was a successful item.
However, there is something that has been bothering me that I don't understand.
What are EI standards?
Take a look at Alruna, Inari's Beads, Death Whisper, or the Lotus and your inventory screen will get flooded with items to choose from. These are all examples of completed 749 EIs. Now, click on Jinxi. The amount of poses available are SIGNIFICANTLY cut down. Now, we know the pose limit is no longer a problem, that was fixed awhile ago, and it seems a little bit backwards to me. Before the pose limit was discovered, artists went all banana sandwich on their items until it was discovered that trying to put everything back in would kill Gaia (or whatever the problem was, we know it was serious and took awhile to find an alternative), and so during the time when the pose limit was a known problem, I could see items scaling back so as not to have that problem. The pose limit isn't an issue now, but the last few items that have completed seemed to have a chunk taken out and the final product is much smaller than they used to be.
If this is just Gaia's version of a learning process, that's fine. EIs are still one of the newer things for the site and I can imagine it took some time to learn pricing, pose limits per item, etc... but it seems like the EIs are settling into a "pay more for less" trend lately. I think Gaia should have some sort of chart (and maybe they do) that they should make available so people know approximately what they're getting for they're money.
A 299 EI would have (for example) 15-20 poses
499/749/999 EI would have ( ) poses -- this sort of thing. That way there's guidelines users can see as well and rather than get righteously pissed off when it seems like an item was skimped on, there will be a standard right there so Gaia can say "we never promised more than this". It could be like the mini-evolutions. We know a 999 EI will evolve every two weeks and get approximately 4-7 poses per evolution, but sometimes an artist will throw in extra poses that evolution, or they'll have an extra item or two show up during a week when the item isn't scheduled to evolve. When an item throws out surprises like that and exceeds what usually occurs, users get very happy - point in case again with the urn. No one ever expected mini-evolutions or recolors, but we got them and we LOVE them.
I for one would like to know what to expect when I'm buying an EI, especially after seeing the pose amount go down in Jinxi from past 749 EIs. ...AND that's enough rambling from me XD
