I agree that the user that created the thread should have the ability to lock the thread, to prevent others from posting. Great suggestion.

Celestial Dog

Nope.

Leave that to mods. It's easy enough to leave a post requesting a mod to delete your thread.

Besides, I'd imagine deleting threads on our own could potentially screw up reporting.
there are places i feel they could be deleted safely not all places but some and here is where i feel users should be able to delete there own posts

hot topics forum
chatterbox forum
special event threads forum
test thread forum
if your topic got recycled
in the news forum
gaia guilds network

but im not sure if its a good idea to let users delete all there old posts or in all forums but some i feel wouldnt pose a problem

No. This easily abused.
I see your point.

No. It could be abused and is something only mods and staff should have the power to do.

I could possibly support giving users the option to lock their own thread so that other users can no longer post in it, but not to completely delete it.

You could completely turn off notices for threads you've started having new posts, but it's kind of an all or nothing sort of deal..

great idea!

I support user being able to lock their thread. I think this would be a nice complement to what we have now with being able to report a thread to have it moved. It could stop things like I've seen here where OP changes the title to "just delete it" or something and people keep bumping it back up.

I guess it can be abused in the sense that users can post whatever want and then delete it and apparently that would screw up the system. But I'm pretty sure a mod said that they can still see deleted posts especially if they have been reported so it would still count against the user.

Here's the thing though. Even if the user does get banned, they can still make a new account and do it again. Like they can now. I don't know about your guys but I feel like Gaia's main problem is giving us the freedom to have as many accounts as we want which makes bans pointless. And a lot of suggestions and ideas, like this one, it can all go back to well a user can just do what they did before they got banned because they weren't IP banned and because they can have as many as a thousand accounts if they wanted.

So if deleting threads is a problem and something that can be abused, on Gaia;s end it's their fault. Still though again. I second the being able to lock topics. That would put a stop to mostly people "necroing" old topics.

I doubt users will ever be given the ability to delete their own threads because then you will have been given the power to affect other user's post histories. This is one of the main reasons that only moderators can permanently remove a thread from the forums, and will only do so if the thread contains serious violations of the Terms of Service.

Gaia's forums are public, so any thread posted on them can be posted in by anyone with an account on Gaia. Removing or deleting a thread deprives everyone who posted in that thread of the ability to see their own posts.

This is why it's a good idea to think very carefully before creating a topic and be prepared to accept that not everyone who sees the topic will post in the way the OP would prefer. That's just the way it is on public forums. Welcome to the internet.

It would be nice to be able to get rid of threads in your "My Threads Section"
I have some in there that I'm never ever going to look at again, and it makes it harder to find the threads that I do wanna go back and look at
So either moving the threads to an archive or completely deleting them would be awesome

Fallen Demigod

I feel like this would be a hit or miss. In some forums, it would be okay. Barton Town is filled with threads that never get off the ground, and I've wished to delete a few dead Role-plays from my history a few times. However, as said, it would mess up the post count history, and I'm sure there are trolls who would love to run around and abuse the feature.
They can't get punished, if there is no proof, so they would just delete the thread.

In some forums, it would be useful; but otherwise it isn't practical.

Sounds like a good idea. I know we can delete our own posts as long as nobody else posted after us.

Or maybe have a way to select certain threads to "Move to Top" or something..

It will mess up the thread count for EVERYONE.
I say no.

Deleting threads? Nah, that's too easily abused. Don't want to let the trolls and image spammers get rid of the evidence that easily.

Though I do wish we could lock our own threads.
