Are unsolicited PMs allowed?

Hi,

I've created an RPG (see sig) which I'd like to recruit for. I'm doing this since I've completely recoded the game, and I'm thinking at least some people would want to play seeing how many are interested in the upcoming Battle System.

So, being the polite and courteous guy that I am.. ahem.. I was wondering. If I visit related forums like Barton Town or Table Top Gaming or similar, and I see some people who I think might wanna be involved (due to their posts/profile/etc), am I allowed to PM them? Or would that be considered spam? The6y might be interested or they might not. But if they are, how would I know if I don't contact them, and if they aren't then they might consider it spam and report me and I wouldn't wanna get into any trouble. Of course if they were nice about it, they could just ignore my PM but not everyone is nice. ^^

If unsolistited PMs weren't allowed, I'd be able to report a lot of people for PMing me about my store items. xd

Anyway, I'd say you could PM people but, if they tell you they aren't interested then go away. I don't think they could report you unless you were harrassing them.

It's advertising something he has here on gaia, a thread which is a game he designed.

Yes, it's allowed. But as someone stated, if they tell you no and to not request it any further, then do as they ask. Other wise it can be reported as harrassment.

You can also try making a thread in the Chatterbox to advertise it, if you wish.

It's not allowed in most forums, but is allowed in the CB.
PMing advertisments is also allowed, as long as you're not trying to annoy them or bug them until they get fed up and do what you say; This can be reported as harrassment.

Okay, I'm getting differing opinions here. Heheh. Kinda confused.

Let me make a couple of things clear. I'm only PMing to people who I think will be interested, from posts I've seen them make, from their listed hobbies in profiles, etc. Also its a shoot-and-forget strategy. One PM. If they are interested they can find their way to my thread, if not they can delete the PM or whatever. I'm CERTAINLY not going to contact them again. ^^

Errr. No. There is no site off Gaia. There are fragmented pages, but the "site" is ON Gaia. The navigational menu is essentially on the thread. Kinda like feedable pets might be hosted off Gaia, or someone using a randomizer off site for their lottery. ^^

Err, what?
Would this RPG be useable without the use of those "Other fragmented pages"?
If no, then its not on Gaia.
I'm getting this by the usual rule that if you have to /leave/ the site to do any form of login/post/get activity, but yet return to the site you came your still going offsite.

I suggest finding a moderator and getting their word/opinion.
This is probably a confusing thing to consider all conclusions and would probably be better off asking them instead of users.

Erm, actually, I'm not quite sure if what he wants to do is against the rules.

I think I now change my recomendation to don't PM people. While you might not get in trouble, some people might find un-asked for PMs annoying.

Wow. I had an idea that people wouldn't like unsolicited mass PMs, but I had no idea people would be so allergic to a targeted PM that might interest them. Going by mgway's reaction I'll reconsider.
