For too long now the gaia profiling community has been working under very odd ideas. A large number of you have signs in your profile, or in your code that says "don't steal this code" or similar (I too am guilty of this) but I have come to the realisation: It's time to start a revolution, and open the hell up.
Bwah?
Yeah, it seems like something of an odd concept, suggesting that you actively ALLOW people to steal bits of your CSS, but hear me out:
First of all, some reasons why it's a good idea:
+It allows people to share new and interesting coding ideas quickly (Currently, people see a cool effect in a profile and have to ask in PD how to achieve that effect, and end off with a lot of blank stares, but if they could just read the code and copy it, they'd be able to work out how to make it work and LEARN)
+It opens up the profiling world to new people who may not be comfortable asking questions for fear of sounding stupid (it's a very real problem with a number of clinical research programs going on around the world)
Second, here's why people WON'T copy your whole profile outright:
Every single one of the profiles that come up in rating threads and the like, and the profiles of all the PDers are unique. We can usually pick the individuals style, and often enough there is the users name or logo hard coded into the profile. Anyone who steals outright will have that still there, and all of us will know EXACTLY what has happened.
Mkay, so how's your idea going to work?
It's simple, really. You post a logo, or text, or whatever in your profile saying that people CAN steal your code, with the following rule:
If you "steal" code from a profile with a steal this code logo, you must put a steal this code logo on your profile too.
In essence, for you more geeky people, this is a FreeGNU share alike licence. You can do with this what you want, but you must allow others the same right on anything you make with it.
Logo's, you say?
(I am sure all of you are smart enough to put an image into a link to this thread)

Can we have a list of who is officially taking part in this?
Why yes!
Comment on this if you want to join in the sharing fun biggrin
