On a regular basis the Gaian Kennel Club adds new breeds. All breeds feature five pieces of art - young puppy, junior puppy, senior puppy and an adult male and female. Breeds are added by group. Meaning, first a sporting dog is added, then a hound, then a working dog, so on and so forth. The GKC allows the players to decided which breed will be added next by a two-part system. First, players are allowed to nominate breeds from the next eligible group, and then there's a public poll and the breed with the highest amount of votes wins.
Current Breeds
Group 1: Sporting
A group of dogs bred to assist owners with hunting related tasks. The main divisions within the group are retrievers, spaniels, setters and pointers, with each type performing a different task such as flushing birds from their roosts, or retrieving shot birds. This popular group has famous breeds such as the Gold Retriever and the Cocker Spaniel. Most of the breeds have joyful, outgoing personalities and a good deal of energy.
Brittany
A highly popular medium sized French breed that makes an excellent companion for the field, show ring or home environment. Generally a happy and alert dog suited to many types of activities.
Group 2: Hound
A diverse and ancient group that contains dogs with heightened senses. that can be split into two distinct smaller groups: scent hounds and sight hounds. Scent hounds have the keenest noses in the dog world, and are used to track game, often cross country. They often work in packs. Sight hounds represent the oldest lineages of dogs, often tracing their roots back to Egypt. They have the sharpest vision out of all the canines. They are also the fastest. Sight hounds are often meant to work independently from their owners.
Whippet
The most common, and smallest, of sighthounds. These are the only sight hounds that are tabled when shown. The fastest moving dogs in the world, they are incredibly athletic, capable of reaching up to 38 miles per hour in run, and able to jump over six feet high from a standstill. They are an affectionate dog, well suited to family life, as well as a variety of dog sports.
Group 3: Working
A group of strong dogs, all bred with specific jobs in mind. The group includes guard dogs, pulling dogs as well as canines developed with a few other uses. There is a great deal of variation appearance throughout the group, but most dogs are on the larger side and are very muscular. Many of these dogs would not be classed as a suitable 'first pet'.
Siberian Husky
An attractive, outgoing medium sized dog, the Siberian Husky is well known for it's amazing endurance. Originating from the eastern tip of the Siberian peninsula, these sled dogs have thick double coats and high cold tolerance. They are surprisingly easy keepers, but do require a great deal of exercise.
