NOTE: This shop will be role-playing required/intensive.

Rene Descartes (1596 -1650), history’s best known dualist, believed that there was a clear separation between the mind (or “soul”) and the body. Their distinction lied in their inherent properties: a body took up space and could move through it while the soul had none of these attributes. The idea that the soul could be a separate entity from the body lied more in the philosophical realm rather than the scientific, empirical field. However, through sheer chance, Dr. Edward G. Owens, PhD, found that the soul could be separated from the body in a physical sense and turned into its own entity through a process called splicing - abruptly placing the concepts of dualism into the realm of the empirical sciences.

Splicing is defined as the process that artificially removes a person’s soul from his body. Once separated, the soul is carefully placed within an object that can securely keep the soul in the material world. The best objects to use are precious stones; Dr. Owens keeps this list as the twelve most suitable precious stones:

* Diamond is considered the most secure and stable of these precious stones because of its molecular structure.

Once spliced, the soul (now referred to as a “daemon”) must depend on the body (now referred to as the “host”) for energy to keep it in the material world. Through the help of the host, the daemon will eventually evolve and gain a humanoid form and interact normally with people and solid objects.

There are many benefits to splicing oneself. Dr. Owens found that splicing effectively minimized the aging process in the body, essentially finding the mythical “Fountain of Youth,” and one could literally live forever (barring any complications). And, of course, a person also gains a constant companion who will understand him more completely than any human friend.

The exact reason why Dr. Owens wished to turn splicing into a business has yet to be seen. However, he will not splice anyone who has:

---------o Intentionally killed someone
---------o Has less than 3 years to live
---------o Is under the age of 21
---------o Has a severe mental disorder (e.g., schizophrenia)

Even having met all these requirements, Dr. Owens will still pre-screen a client via in-person interview and, once he is satisfied, he will splice a client for a 100,000 USD (cash only).



-: Roleplaying Rules and Requirements :-

Much of the general format follow the guidelines set by B/C shop, Lab 305

Rules

[1.] Keeping a RP journal for your daemon is required. This will help both the staff and you keep up with any RP activities and provide you with a nice place to put in solo entries for your host or your daemon. Keep it interesting and creative! n_n

[2.] You must have some RP activity at least once a month (30 days). This may be in-thread (IC of course), in the guild, on MSN/AIM, or even just a solo post in your journal. Remember, if it isn't a solo post, be sure to promptly document it in your journal. Staff members are not responsible for scrambling around Gaia looking for your RP activity!

[3.] Drop by and say hello (no emote-posts!) at least once a month (30 days) in the shop thread. There's nothing more annoying than an owner who gets a pet then just drops off the face of the Earth. It just implies that you're not really interested in the shop. This will also allow you to introduce your daemon to potential RP partners. This rule applies to staff members as well!

[4.] If you go on hiatus, please be sure to PM the mule, Doctor Edward Owens. Your hiatus cannot exceed more than 6 months (180 days). If it does, you must give a reasonable explanation why you are leaving for 6 months. Then we will decide if we will strip you of your daemon or not.

[5.] After you do not show any activity for 30 days in the shop thread or through RP activities documented clearly in your journal without prior notice of a hiatus, you shall receive an official warning. You will then have 15 days to show us some activity in either or both offending areas. If not, I have the right to:

---------o ban you from the guild
---------o god-mode your host
---------o create a situation that kills off your daemon
---------o lock your journal
---------o and lock any RP threads you were a part of in the guild.

Considering I will be angry that you wasted my time and other people's time, I will probably think of some very creative and cruel ways for your daemon and/or host to die n_n. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

[6.] After you go on a hiatus or return from inactivity of 30-45 days, you need to set up an appointment with Dr. Kail Richards to have your daemon checked on and you must pay a check up fee.

---------o Inactivity Check-Up Fee (1st offense): 5,000 G
---------o Inactivity Check-Up Fee (2nd offense): 10,000 G
---------o Inactivity Check-Up Fee (3rd offense): 15,000 G

If you cannot pay these fees in gold, we may accept items. However, THESE MUST BE PAID.

[7.] As seen above, I work on a 3 strikes warning system. Once you receive 3 warnings from us for inactivity, you will feel the full force of my wrath (e.g., see the list in Rule # 5).

[8.] Any RP threads in the guild that stay inactive for more than 3 months (90 days) shall be locked!

[9.] These RP rules may change in the future but you will be given fair warning of any added and/or changed rules!

[10.] Follow the Daisy Code when RPing please.

Growth Minimum Requirements

NOTE: If you manage to gain a daemon, you will not immediately get a cert.

To get: Stage 1

---------o Set up your journal
---------o At least 1 in depth, thoughtful solo journal entry about your recuperation after the splicing. Edward requires all new patients to reside in the mansion for 1 week to make sure there are no complications.

To get: Stage 2
---------o Set up and finish a PRP with Doctor Kail Richards for a check up on the your daemon.
---------o At least 3 in depth, thoughtful, journal entries about your host's thoughts about your newly gained stone. Remember, your daemon cannot interact with your host in Stage 1!

---------o At least 10 in depth, thoughtful journal entries from your daemon's point of view where he/she is learning to interact with the material world. Remember they are like ghosts at the very beginning. (e.g., putting on clothes)
---------o At least 5 in depth, thoughtful journal entries where your host is helping your daemon learn about the material world (e.g., social etiquette etc.)
---------o At least 10 PRP or ORPs with other hosts or non-owners

To get: Stage 5

[1.] They have white irises.

[2.] They share exactly one physical attribute with their hosts.

[3.] They are only visible to their hosts unless their hosts give them explicit permission to show themselves to a person.

[4.] They must learn to interact with the material world (e.g., shaking hands with someone, picking up a cup)

[5.] They are the same gender as their host.

[6.] In the early stages, they must stay near their hosts to gain energy to stay in the material world. With more practice and experience, daemons may eventually stray away from their hosts at increasing distances.

[7.] Before they learn how to interact with the material world, they are very ghost-like. A daemon passing through you feels like being dunked in cold water.

[8.] Daemons are privy to their hosts’ moods, though, they are not necessarily affected by them.

[9.] Daemons may directly experience their hosts’ sensations (and vice versa) if the stimulus is strong enough (e.g., extreme pain or pleasure).

[10.] If a daemon fades from the material world by being mortally wounded or other reasons, the host will either waste away and die or go insane.

You have successfully separated your soul from your body and placed it into the precious stone of your choice. When you draw near it, it begins to glow with a soft light, and it is warm in your hands. This stage is very critical. If you are negligent and do not keep your stone at hand, your daemon will fade away from the material realm. If you are killed, your daemon immediately leaves the material plane.

Your daemon has gained enough energy and experience to manifest as a ball of light. It swirls around you, and you can now verbally interact with your daemon. Your daemon is stable enough to continue its residence in the precious stone without your direct contact. However, it will not evolve without your active help. If you are killed, your daemon immediately leaves the material plane.

Your daemon has gained full humanoid form. However, its physical features have yet to be firmly established, thus, your daemon still has a rather ethereal appearance. Your daemon can either float or walk. It can now begin learning how to interact with the material world. If you are killed, your daemon immediately leaves the material plane.

Your daemon has achieved full, material, solid form. It has no trouble interacting with the material world, and has become nearly human. You can be killed but your daemon is strong enough to remain in the material world.

-: Stage 5 :-

Dr. Owens suspects that the daemon can only reach this stage when the host has expired. He is not sure what would happen but he believes that the host and the daemon will become “one” again, though, the host will serve as the unconscious soul while the daemon is the body.

Under special and very rare circumstances, daemons may be created in unorthodox ways.

-: Parasite Soul :-

A parasite soul may be created when, during the act of splicing, the host dies but the soul manages to safely enter the precious stone. However, it is vulnerable without the host and can immediately fade away from the material realm. The soul immediately seeks out a substitute host and attaches itself to the host, sustaining itself with its new host’s energy. The substitute host doesn’t necessarily have to be human.

This can be especially dangerous if the host is human, has already been spliced, and is already supporting his own daemon. Supporting two daemons at once could potentially kill the human host because of the energy cost. A parasite soul may be separated from the human host (without any negative consequences to the host) through a procedure that is basically a modified splicing technique. The parasite soul may then attach itself to another host. However, the parasite soul may also be expelled from the material world if necessary.

If a person agrees to be the new host, a parasite soul may become a fully formed, stage 4 daemon. It will never reach stage 5. Once at stage 4, the parasite soul will be completely energy-independent.



-: Renegade Soul :-

When a person is killed, his soul should immediately leave the material realm. On very rare occasions, however, for varying reasons, the soul has managed to stay on with the living. It has become a renegade soul and may also be referred to as a ghost. A renegade soul has found another means of energy to stay in the material realm (e.g., human emotion, electricity). A ghost is usually tied to the place where the host died. Moving to a different place costs the ghost an enormous amount of energy, and if it isn’t careful, it could fade away from the material realm from the effort.

A renegade soul may never achieve the humanoid form without the direct help of a host. Thus, some ghosts have managed to reach Dr. Owens’ residence and inquired after his assistance to become a daemon. Unlike parasite souls, renegade souls are not exclusively attached to one host. Thus, they can draw energy from multiple people. As long as they are drawing energy from someone, they may evolve into a daemon.

Renegade souls may reach up to stage 4 and will be completely energy-independent.

Outstanding Feature: Doesn’t have a left arm because it was amputated. Thus, he has a robotic one.
Disposition: Quiet, thoughtful, melancholy, kind, reserved

History: A brilliant man who received his Masters and Ph.D from Yale's clinical psychology program, Edward is currently working out of his inherited, family mansion through a private practice. He was born to Johnathon Withers & Rachel Elaine Owens. His father was a doctor of medicine and his mother was a surgical nurse. Edward had a pretty normal, privileged life because of his father's money and his intelligence. He fell in love with a fellow budding psychologist during his graduate studies and they got married in September 1955.

However, a car accident that tragically killed his wife and left Edward in critical condition changed everything. His left arm was crushed under the mangled frame of his car and was amputated. Edward sank into a period of major depression, however, he was saved by sheer curiosity at the appearance of his daemon. At first he thought he had gone crazy, but his scientific fervor was sparked as he realized that he was at the threshold of something ground-breaking.

He spent many years doing research on the subject of daemons, throwing himself into his work to avoid his thoughts about his deceased wife. After close to 40 years of meticulous experiments, Edward was ready to begin daemon research on humans. To help him in his endeavor, he chose to hire Dr. Ezekiel Richards and Dr. Firenze Csikszentmihalyi.

History: Phillip is Edward's daemon. He has been with the psychologist for close to 50 years, and he is very loyal to him. Edward eventually dismissed all of his house servants from his mansion (because they would probably notice that he was not aging), and Phillip serves as the main care-taker of the house. He cooks, cleans, and does about anything that Edward asks of him. He serves as E.G.O's secretary and butler.

History: Born to a construction working father and a pediatrician mother; he has a sister six years his junior. His life was terribly unremarkable up through his college years, an a-typical skirt-chaser who had big dreams and the will to chase them.

Kail attended Yale and graduated high in his class, although he doesn't flaunt his beginnings and his work. He very rarely speaks about his work at all, leaving most of his credentials to be seen only be a select few. With a specialization in bionic transplants, he's a rare commodity and second to none in his field.

His purpose for working with Edward, however, has little to do with bionic implants (outside of the obvious) and more to do with survival - patients will be putting their lives into his hands, as he is responsible for overseeing each patient being put 'under' and 'reviving' them. Patients are also expected to have check ups with the doctor so he can monitor the progress of the daemon and host.

History: At only 27-years-old, Firenze is probably the youngest biomedical engineer with a Ph.D and a well-established reputation in the scientific world as being a genius. She was born in a one-bedroom apartment in New York City and quickly rose above her peers in school.

She got her Masters and Ph.D in engineering at MIT and then broadened her education by studying medicine as a guest student at John Hopkins. Firenze has many publications and has traveled the world giving lectures. She currently works for the government and many of her projects are classified.

However, Firenze also has a private business and takes on independent projects from rich benefactors. She is the creator of Edward's splicing machine and, even with her busy schedule, she manages to drop by the mansion every now and then to make sure her creation is working properly.

As a colorist for EGO, your one and only duty is to color all EGO-related line-art in a timely manner. I expect all of your work to be of high quality. If you fail to complete coloring assignments in a timely fashion, I will issue a warning and, if you have not complied by then, I will not hesitate to fire you.

As I begin to get to know and trust you, your responsibilities may be expanded (if you wish).

For each daemon sold, the colorist responsible for that daemon will get 40% of the profits.

Colorists may receive a daemon for free if they choose.

How quickly can you finish a coloring assignment (e.g., waist up picture)?: If I'm not really busy with school stuff, then a couple of hours. Even if I am, I'll probably get it to you within a few hours. Coloring makes a great break from writing research papers, and I love to take breaks from writing them.

What made you apply to EGO?: I love the concept, love the lineart, and think this shop is going to be awesome.

Any other comments?: It's clear that you've put a lot of thought and effort into this and I think it's definitely going to pay off. Even if I don't get hired, I'll probably end up lurking around the shop anyway.

I'd originally said that stage three took my three hours, but I got to thinking and sans distractions it took me an hour and a half. So I'd say approximately two hours.

What made you apply to EGO?: ... I'm secretly, not-so-secretly, in love with Dracul lines?

Have you had previous experience in B/C shop coloring? If so, what shop(s)?: Yes... Several years of it and at dozens of shops... Though the only ones active that I can think of are Shirabyoshi and my own shop coloring my own art.

Do you have AIM or MSN (specify or say both)?: Both.

Approximately how many hours do you spend online?: There are hours I don't spend online? O_O ... Well, unless I get distracted by something not on the computer, I'm usually on... *counts up the number of hours shes usually awake* around 15-17 hours a day? |D

How quickly can you finish a coloring assignment (e.g., waist up picture)?: Varies. >_> Though I can usually finish a picture within one day(2 if its complex), which day that is after I get it depends on my mood, how interesting it is, and if anything is going on in RL, but usually doesn't take me too long to get to it. |D

What made you apply to EGO?: Smexy men? >.>;

As a certist for EGO, your one and only duty is to cert all EGO-related art in a timely manner. I expect all of your work to be of high quality. If you fail to cert assignments in a timely fashion, I will issue a warning and, if you have not complied by then, I will not hesitate to fire you.

As I begin to get to know and trust you, your responsibilities may be expanded (if you wish).

For each daemon sold, the certist will get 10% of the profits.

Certist may participate in events to attain a daemon.

Have you had previous experience in B/C shops? If so, what shop(s) and were your duties?: Three years of B/C experience. I don't want to fish out links, but if you really need them, I'll find them. D;
Previously:
- Geisha Dreams - RP Manager
- Oaxu - RP Manager turned co-owner, sometimes graphic artist
- Star*Chasers (under new management)- co-owner. Colored things on occasion.
Currently:
- Redemption of the Blessed - Guild manager. Color things. Coordinate events. It’s a strange mix here; I do a little of everything, though I’m only on the payroll as a manager.
- Shirabyoshi - Owner, certist, graphic artist, RP manager, etc.

Approximately how many hours do you spend online?: Nearly all day, during the summer, because I am a loser. Variable during the rest of the year, from half an hour to threefourfive hours.

How quickly can you finish a certing assignment?: To cert something? Within ten minutes of receiving information. If you want me to make a new cert... x.x; give me a weekend or two, except under extenuating circumstances, which I will inform you of should they occur.

What made you apply to EGO?: Philip Pullman = win. I have also always admired the lineart, which I immediately recognized from another B/C... /lurker

Any other comments?: lulz, I dunno if this is the style you're looking for, but I'll shoot anyway. Things can be moved around/colors changed/fonts changed quite easily, so don't hesitate to ask. o3o
