I don't fully understand the concept of vectors to be honest. @_@

@Meurk: yeah, that's always been a weak point for me...I dunno, I just have a hard time visualizing shadows

well basically vector are shapes xd
in illustrating you need basic shapes, try thinking in 3d like sphere or cube instead of just circle and square, it helps you think about the shadows..once you've assigned the light source, just like Meurk said...get it?
