I love dr who and I spazzed when they introduced Missy. In my head before it happened i had honestly been thinking about a evil male time lord turning female on regeneration.

i don't think a Time Lord has /ever/ been female, so rather than having the Doctor turn female and hoping for the best, they turned the Doctor's enemy, an evil Time Lord, female~ >w<

there is so much head cannon with that one XDDD

basically, i think its partly because thats how it always was, and partly because a male just has happened to out-Doctor the females in auditions. Moffat has said if a female ever seems to fit the part, our Doctor will be a Time Lady~
