You know what? I don't put up with people like you because I come from Cherokee roots well a little anyways but that's not the point. The point is, I can believe whatever I want to and so can anybody else. So don't be giving out facts like people don't know. I admit some people don't know a lot about wolves and choose to believe in them and make them pets. But, that's THEIR business and nobody can tell them what to do. But, that's MY opinion. Do whatever you please. But just remember, that you just offended my religion roots. I don't appreciate that at ALL.
You clearly didn't even bother to read my entire post. Thanks for lashing out at me when I clearly stated there's a distinct exception for people such as native americans who see situations like that in a religious light and have legitimate reasoning behind it.

I'm sort of offended that you decided to attack me in such a manner and make assumptions without even finishing reading the first post.

Actually, I DID read it. But I do not believe a wolf would attack unless threatened or provoked to do so. I am simply saying I would put it a different way than saying they are basically savage beasts who do nothing but kill with their free time.
(I like how you suddenly change the subject after I proved you wrong)

Also, I never said they do nothing but kill, but you claiming they wouldn't attack unprovoked is an incredibly ignorant thing to say. A wolf will kill for many reasons, NOT just because they feel they're in danger or are angered. Any canine will hunt down a rabbit hopping by purely because they get enjoyment in hunting. It's fun for them, it's a learning game of sorts. They'll also kill if they feel they can take on "competition". If you adopted a wolf, you'd have to keep it in check constantly, otherwise it would someday start thinking "That's the boss. I could challenge the boss and take over this place if I killed them."

I totally understand why people love wolves because of their appearance because they are just magnificent. But I do not understand why people think if they take a wolf or a wolf dog as their pet, it will just act like a normal dog.

Because their souls with twine as one and they will understand each other on a deeper level than any other two beings ever have and everything will be magical rainbows.

Er maybe not...

Heh, but why are there people who still can't handle wolf dogs or wolves? I hope that the way that they understand each other isn't because they want to wreak havoc in the neighborhood. neutral
You're assuming a lot about the people that own wolves confused

I mean, for sure you will get idiots thinking they will be just like a dog, but there are also plenty of good owners that have outdoor enclosures for them and realize that certain instincts are going to be much more present in wolves than in dogs.
Also with wolves making there prey suffer I don't think what you say is completely true usually when an animal bleeds out it goes into shock sometimes they pass out and then the wolves eat the animal atleast there not like the Tasmanian devil who eats the prey alive with the animal screeching as its insides are being eaten.

Didn't say they make sure their prey suffers, just that it's a consequence- as contrary to people thinking their prey receives a quick death.

I believe wolves do give a quick death compared to other animals. I say its better to go for the jugular then to keep attacking the preys flanks where it will give the animal a slow death and much more painful end. the one's that will give the prey a long slow death are new born hunting wolves cause they wont know how to kill prey. It really doesn't matter quick or slow what matters is if its painful or not that's my opinion just saying whats on my mind.

But those are the only people we were talking about--the people that think that wolves will act just like a normal dog. We weren't discussing people that get wolves and expect them to be wolves at all. :]

I agree with you Henrika they say all this stuff yet never even think about the people who actually take great care of wolf dogs. All they do is talk about the negative.

There are enough morons praising wolves and wolfdogs as it is. I have absolutely no need or obligation to do the same.

This thread isn't based on negativity, it's based on things too many wolf lovers desperately need to learn because they're incredibly ignorant people.

Again, we were specifically only talking about the people who think wolves will act just like dogs in a pet setting. We weren't talking about the folks who do take good care of wolves, and who expect them to act like wild animals.
Finally someone who understands!! =) People clmaing to have wolf-dogs kill me. I Would gladly post pictures of my baby reefer you can tell when a dog has wolf in it or not, the physical and behavioral changes are nothing in comparison to a regular dog and if you have one you have to have speacial papers! its like owning a raccoon.

You put too much faith in people following the rules. A lot of exotic animal owners don't have the necessary paperwork.

With canines it can be even easier since there are breeds of dogs out there that you could pass a wolf dog off as.

But yes. I have to shake my head every time I hear people proudly claiming how they got themselves a wolf-dog. Fortunately, most of the time, it's a Malamute mix and they just don't know the difference. When it is a wolf hybrid, it frequently ends with a lot of problems, and many of them get euthanized due to behavioural issues, including aggression.

Wolves are fantastic animals. Not so much fantastic pets.
I lol because most people who claim they have a wolf-dog don't. It's simply a husky. Pure husky.

While wolfdogs are amazing, beautiful creatures and I do think they would make a good pet in SOME circumstances, they're almost never a good idea. They would need CONSTANT, VERY strict training as puppies and it still wouldn't be wise to trust the creature completely around children or other animals.

My mom had a wolf mix dog. And even though she trained it very well, It's instincts kicked in when she was training it to attack. She went for the throat instead of her arm.

And this is why you should never try to teach any canine to attack on command, kiddies.
