PLEASE RATE THUMBS UP! blaugh
This just in! The Cosplay Arena has officially been implemented! I am so glad to have contributed to this cause, and totally thrilled that I gained so much support and that so many other petitions allowed this to be possible. Thanks to everyone, enjoy the arena!
I would just like to give a huge thank you to all of the supporters out there who advertise in their signatures. Thank you guys SOOOO much!! Keep on spreading the word! ^^
Update! The beta testing for the new arenas are opened, please visit the feedback thread and remind the programmers that we want avatar arena categories!! I will leave a link...
NEWSFLASH! Gaia has managed to resdesign the arenas, creating categories for the art arena, but still no categories for the avatar arena? PLEASE Gaia! Consider creating categories for the avatar arena!! I will be expecting them when you launch the real deal!! I can't wait for the feedback page. Join me in giving them our cosplay arena feedback! The link will be posted when the thread is released.
I can't help but notice that in recent weeks nearly 8/10 avatars that have won the arena have been cosplays. While I don't hate cosplays, I do feel that it is unfair to original avatars that are evaluated in very different ways to be voted out based on a criteria that does not apply to them. The same can be said for the cosplays that don't win. It is clear that there is a problem here that must be brought into consideration.
Should we ban cosplays? Absolutely not! Many people enjoy cosplays, cosplaying has developed into a great piece of culture that makes gaia what it is. The problem here is that we evaluate cosplays differently from how we evaluate original avatars! We evaluate cosplays based on what character they are, and how that character is portrayed. The evaluation of an avatar is much more complex, involving things such as: originality, design, style, item use, color, etc... These distinct differences make an unfair situation. The solution is to make a new category, create an all new arena: the cosplay arena.
To me a cosplay is any avatar based on, or rather representing, the image of an unoriginal person, character, animal, etc, that the user did not think up on their own. Anything that requires a reference picture, which could be a useful built in tool in the cosplay arena, is a cosplay. (Note: This does not include 'scenery' avatars, which are still original designs)
If you agree and want a cosplay arena, and to give avatar entries of all kinds a more fair chance at winning, please sign this petition.
Thank you!

REASONS TO SIGN
-To create a more fair evaluation of avatars entered in competitions, since cosplays and original avatars are evaluated differently
-More items easily incorporated into cosplays have been coming out, creating an increasing interest in cosplaying and therefor a demand for its own arena
-Some great avatars never even enter for fear of being beat by a cosplay that is evaluated in a different way
-To make it easier for cosplayers (and those interested in cosplay) to find each other and compete to see which one is truly the best
-To raise the standards of cosplays and originals alike!
-To fulfill the dream of creating this arena for everyone on gaia to enjoy!
