One of my best friends loves One Piece and I get the appeal of Sanji and Zoro but its not quite enough to make me actually read the manga or watch the anime xD
My biggest fandom right now is just Marvel universe. Once I discovered that there are canon gay superheroes there was no going back lmao.

Sshh, responsibilities don't exist. Don't think, just NaNo

I think you'd be surprised with how much kanji you would remember if you really tried :3
Untrue. I have to prepare for TAing tomorrow and NaNo hasn't even started yet. |D

Haha, I can read much more than I can write at this point. Probably because I don't handwrite kanji anymore now that I'm not taking tests.

There goes my fragile illusion lol

I think being able to read more than you write is fairly standard. I pretty much freak out whenever I can read something. I'm waaaaay to highly entertained with the whole learning process haha.

lazy, so lazy. I've been working on planning a little, though, which is... progress. No idea what most of it will be about, so November will be interesting.

I play enough games/read enough in Japanese that I can remember readings and meanings a lot more than writing. I'm forgetting a lot of things we did in first-year, too, so it's kind of awkward.

Any tips for new NaNo participants?

Tempting as revising what you've written may seem, over the course of the month, do not go back and edit. Editing is for later. National Novel Writing Month is all about pushing through for that word count, so write, write, write! And keep drinks and snacks handy, just in case.

Question from a newbie. Would you recommend planning out the novel's character, theme, and plot beforehand, or should I just focus on understanding my main character and letting the plot write itself from there?

In my third year of Nano..I slightly suggest knowing your plot a bit., or at least the direction you want you novel to go. Maybe plan a couple characters out, a small plot. My very first year of nano, it was 11:30, and I jad just figured out what I was going to write about. 2nd year was a sequal so I knew where I was going to take it. This year, everything is planned, mainly because I have had this idea and wanted to write it forever but wait ed for nano to write it.

But it is whatever you feel like, I had been writing before nano, and I was finishing up on another novel that I finished afterwards.

But I thought this would be a neat idea because it changes for everybody and it's really creative..

What are your Ten commandments of Nano

Mine

1)Thou shalt make the 1667 word count every day
2)Thou shalt write more than needed everyday
3)Thou shalt make time for homework when needed
4)If thou is tired, thou shalt drink a caffinated beverage
5)Thou shalt eat at according times (I run on a school cafeteria, opend certain times of day)
6)If thou cannot think, thou shalt make that time and give friends a chance to tell them "I am not dead"
7)50000 words shall be reached, without thy novel turning into fluff
cool If the characters are not working out, make it work out
9)thou shall make a bedtime after 2:00 AM
10)If thee needs ice, thee shall use it (I've done soemthing to my neck that it is almost always in pain and it is hard to move it and I can barely look down, so I lost mostly all movement. Ice takes the pain away.

Short answer: It's all about what you are most comfortable with or which methods produces more writing.

A lot of people pants the novel and have no idea what they're writing, until they write it. I think it's safe to focus on your main character and let the plot develop from there, as you write it.

I was considering it last year but never really went through with it because I was busy with school, but I might give it a shot this year.

Do what you need to do first, ad then jump in with writing your novel. When you need to switch gears from writing the one, you can write a bit of the other, too. It's okay, it's all write.

It's almost time for me to say goodbye to my lovely Michael Fassbender wallpaper and switch it it to a NaNo calender one. I shall miss you, Fassy crying

Laziness is a key aspect in my life. Take today…set alarm clock for 9am, reluctantly roll out of bed at 11:15 because dog needs to go out. And once you start writing things will come fairly quick (:
Forgetting is kind of my biggest fear. I’m taking the class with one of my friends though and I will make her text me in romaji just so we can practice lol. If you ever want to brush up one your newbie stuff just let me know xD

I love that Ten Commandments thing; I think I’ll make one too! Some of ours will definitely be the same, haha.
1)Thou shalt make the 1667 word count every day
2)Thou shalt write more than needed everyday
3)Thou shalt make time for homework when needed
4)Thou shalt never run out of coffee or Coke Zero
5)Thou shalt live off of nutella and ramen, for cooking is a waste of writing time
6)If thou cannot think, thou shall prowl the NaNo dare thread for ideas
7)50000 words shall be reached without thy novel dissolving into gibberish
8 ) If the characters are not working out, thou shalt refrain from murdering them (three years in a row is enough)
9)Thou shalt ignore the seductive call of thy temptress mattress until word count for the day is reached.
10) Thou shalt write any idea that comes while away from home on cellphone, and incorporate it later.

Yes my tank is awesome and my dreams are strange.
As for my commandments- I wrote them up for an English assignment last year in December.
Rules for Writing During NaNoWriMo, I have broken number 2 though.
1. Word count is the most important thing. Write a minimum of 1,667 words a day.
2. Do not start new stories during October.
3. By October 31 have at least a general idea and a plot worked out.
4. The first story has to be typed.
5. Lock away the inner editor because December is for editing.
6. Everything goes.
7. Must include the traveling shovel of death.
8. Must include ninjas in some form.
9. Once the first 50,000 words are reached continue to type.
10. Be sure to validate by November 30.

So I take it you figured out your idea, that is awesome.

Question for all:
Do you know how you are going to use the traveling shovel of death?
