Unfortunitly I have had friends that have concidered themselves Wiccan because they wanted that "style"

Feral Reindeer

There is a style called "wicca" ?

... Amazing... What would the style look like? surprised
Yeah, to be perfectly honest, I can't take 99% of Wiccans/neopagans seriously as soon as they admit to the fact.
Far too many 14 year olds running out spouting about their sudden enlightenment that they're actually a witch with the spirit of a water wolf named Raven Leafheart.

Yes, this is a horrible stereotype. But I base this on personal experience.

most of them are probably sad little goth posers

@[neon.zombie]: you could do a little digging into the subject and test their knowledge like asking them "what is a Atheme?" or "what does the redee tell us about casting curses?"

None but God decide who goes into it. thats part of christian theology.

Right, that there, prove it.

(The rest of your post was utter shite that I'm not even going to address. Deities are on the same level as each other. Fin.)

Dieties are not on the same level. not even in their own panetheons. Hephestus isn't on the same level as Zeus, as their stats dictate so.

Thor cannot defeat Shiva, as Thor can die. and presides over thunder. Shiva is the god of the cycle of destruction and rebirth.
the goddess isn't even on the same level as Azreal. who is death.

The goddess is a finite existence. God is an infinite existence. Fin.

Arguing from an a priori acceptance of Christian theology as the end-all-be-all is the kind of fallacious thinking (begging the question, more or less) that created Pascal's Wager and also the kind of argument that borders dangerously on evangelizing.

Just for the record, Christian theology also claims that YHVH can put people into his Hell that are under the auspice of other deities. Exceptionalism much? (I would love to see how you can counterargue this without breaking directly into preaching!)

Funny. all i was doing was comparing the stats of the respective gods.
line the stats of god and the goddess up side by side. and you'll have your answer me bucko.

nothin wrong with evangelizing. fanaticism is bad tho.

love your double standard. when people talk about god according to their texts. they're preaching.
but when other religions do the same, its elightment.

God is a be all end all existance. i said nothing about the theology being a be all end all existence. except for the fact that Christian Theology on the stats of the Christian God, is a better source than the Wiccan Theology on the Christian God. barring the fact that gardner stole threw things together willy nilly to make his beliefs into a religion.

"Their stats"? Is this D&D, do they have character sheets?

Yup. its the most impartial way of dealing with things like these.

death is the end of all things. the goddess provides over the earth, the earth will one day be destroyed.

god presides over all that was, all that is and all that shall be. Omnipotent, Omnipresent and Omniscient the goddess is none of those things.
Alpha and omega, beginning and the end.

I'm reluctant to do any digging into the subject beyond the basics just to try and catch out posers (there's only so much headdesking I can do in one sitting). I must also point out that I have found that when they adopt Wicca/Neopaganism because it seems "cooler" than other belief systems, they tend to just throw together whatever aspects of the various traditions suit them.

Plus, if I had a dollar for every devoted Christian who had no idea what the Apocrypha were... I'm not sure how central Athemes or the redee are to Wicca, but being ignorant on a few points doesn't necessarily say anything about how genuinely devoted you are to a belief system. Even though I'm personally headdesking at the aforementioned Christians as well.

you'll get a head ake from headdesking and trying to find it all from valid sources so i'll simply tell ya. well, athemes are ritualistic blades used for casting a protective circle around you while you are spell casting and as for the redee it basically says if you do harm another then a b***h to karma you are. i'm one of the real Wiccans and your completely right. those are some of the first things i learned in my research when i first started out. the ones who take things that they believe in from other religions and/or simply practice alone are what is called Solitaries or another term would be "fluffly bunnies." thinking that everything is gonna go your way or everything is good and just it's wishful thinking but to true Wicca, utter bullshit. -pardon my french-

Shy Friend

I was actually searching on the internet about religions... I was looking them up to learn more about them, because I felt that something was there, but I couldn't put my finger on it.

Wicca and paganism seemed to stick, and I'm studying it right now. It was not the trends, no. It was the faith that got me. Though yes, I am a bit irritated with some people in the internet who claim they're Wiccan because they either A) Want that sort of appeal, or B) Wish to rebel against their parents or society using that manner. I'm the only "other" religion in my town. It's either Christian, a small amount of atheist, only three families of Jewish.

The traditional question around here is "what is the elemental weapon of ether?" wink
I'm unsure whether your "atheme" is a spelling mistake or a typo, or an acceptable variation.

Bollocks. Examine the rede and show me where it mentions karma at all. Show where the consequences for causing harm are stated.

spelled it wrong my apologies >.<

Athame- A knife used by Witches to draw the magick circle and to store and direct energy. A Witch's athame has either a black or white handle. It also has various Magickal symbols inscribed on its blade.

Bollocks you say?
with my karma statement i'm talking of the law of three. i use the word "karma" in this instance.

Mind the threefold law you should,
three times bane and three times good.

to me, this means if you cast in good nature good things will happen to you or the if you cast with fowl intent you'll get it right back at you. or did i simply misinterpret this statement? this to me sounded a little bit like karma if you apply it to everyday life.
