Ur, no. I wouldn't make such a stupid claim. I'm fairly certain Buddhist Priests can't marry, either, and there may be other religions with the same restrictions. I meant exactly what I said. Your attempt to strawman me into an idiotic and indefensible position is rejected.

dont be so defensive. I was just clarifying what you said.

No, actually, you were adding to what I said so as to make it inaccurate.

CoolCosmic
And what you said is this "And in religions that aren't Christianity, Priests often can marry". Well we were talking about christianity so I had to assume that was your intention too. What the hell do non-muslims & non-christians have to do with our discussion. NONE.

Actually, what I said was: "Except in the Church of England. And maybe Orthodox Churches; I can't remember. And in religions that aren't Christianity, Priests often can marry." in response to you saying: "Dear, priests don’t have families," a generalization which you admitted a post later was a lie.

CoolCosmic
Maybe you are just making excuses for your flawed response. Cant you tolerate a simple clarification? Oh my goodness.

Hmmm... your response to my simple clarification was addmitting you were wrong, and then comming up with a reason why your lying wasn't such a big deal.

One of us here can't tolerate clarification, at least.

Evidence that 95% of Priests don't have families, please.

oh here we go again. that was just a rough estimate. the point is 'the huge majority'. i dont care to inform you on this one because I wasnt discussing with you in the first place. maybe next time. wink

Claim rejected due to lack of evidence, then. "The huge majority of priests don't have families" is an unsupported claim.

Can we just say that some priests can get married and others can't and be done with it?
Pomnuria Garjzla
oh so that's their philosophy behind it. i always thought you din't need a building or a priest to go and worship God. Why not pray and worship at home?

Christians do pray at home. Devoted Christians worship god anywhere. So why do they still go to a church building? To have fellowship with one another. To recieve their sacraments. To worship god together.

Liar. The statement “priests don’t have families” is never a lie.

You are so naïve. Catholics make up the huge percentage of christianity. Add to that the orthodox church. There is your evidence.

Quit making pathetic excuses for your lame statement "And in religions that aren't Christianity, Priests often can marry" which have nothing to do with what we (you, not included)are discussing.

it is acctually a partial lie because some priests do have families. who cares about correct stats i acctually thought that even in the church of england that priests couldn't marry; i guess you've proven me wrong. and like i said earlier, let's just say that some priests get married and others don't

Anglican priests have families.
Wiccan priests have families.
Aes Denai priests have families.
That statement is always a lie.

Catholics do not make up the huge percentage of priesthoods.
And please provide the statistical support that there are more Catholic and Orthodox priests than all other denominations of Christain.

Yes it does.
We are discussing preisthood here, not Christian priesthood.

Let's get back on subject.
Yes miss Garjzla,

Let me just inform the last few posters above of this simple little fact:

When speaking in general terms, it could be that the statement was...

applicable to or characteristic of the majority of individuals involved : PREVALENT

http://www.webster.com/dictionary/general

And so (christian) priests dont have families. because the 'majority' of them dont. live with it.

Now back to our local channel. biggrin
Islam is 1400 years old isnt it?

if you look at Christianity when it was roughly that old, it was having violent unjust inquisitions, nasty crusades, schisms, mutual excommunications, torture and humiliation of Jews, and eventually long-term pitched battles between different sects.

maybe Islam just needs time to grow up and sort things out, the way Christianity eventually did.

already it seems to me that the majority are sick of sectarian violence, killing the innocent (Muslims!) over dogmatic differences.

Mormonism is much younger, probably around 200 years old, and mormons are pretty civilized.

Communications & trade allow people to grow together. And so younger religions dont have any excuse to behave in backwards.

I think you may want to have a look at your ability with the English language.

Firstly, let's think. Oh wait, the noun 'family' goes down and up the tree! So you're claiming that these priests don't have parents, which is awesome. I suppose we're thinking something akin to Immaculate Conception here?

Secondly, ooh I've found this awesome word. "Most!" Often used by people when speaking or typing to indicate that they are making a generalisation, rather than leaving it to the reader or listener to discern whether you are making a universalisation or a generalisation. It does help, y'know, when discussing things, to actually try and confer the concept you are discussing correctly.

Dar al-Harb.
^context, man. context! biggrin its families within the context of marriage.

Again, back to our local channel. cool
