Wow, theres a lot of Mormon bashing in here.Maybe I should go fetch something to defend myself.

We believe that spirits, souls are eternal and have always existed, ergo though Jesus Christ was born into the flesh his soul was still always there and of course he had to have a name...

No, souls are /not/ eternal, according to Mormon beleifs. God and his wife gave birth to your souls through sexual intercourse on a spiritual level.

HOLY ********! xd
(sorry, I couldn't contain myself...)

we have a JST of exodus chapter 6:3, and abraham 1:16 that say Jehovah was revealed to abraham. as for the emmanual, it's like where they say he will be known as the prince of peace etc. it doesnt mean his name is going to be Jesus Emmanuel prince of peace...Christ. he is known by many names. And an angel gave the name to Mary. it was obviously known to them (angels, God, Jesus) a long time. plus, a lot of the book of mormon is abridged, and therefore the plates calling christ as such may have been edited in that the name is made to Jesus Christ from jehovah etc. i don't honestly know.

and i take back the part about me saying Christ has always been. i realise that was a mistake. Even Revelations shows Christ's birth (revelations 12)

(edited as it was a bit vague) (er)

Your Joseph Smith translation is wrong. First off, Jehovah is a poor translation of the name YHWH. Secondly, that translation goes against every other translation ever made. Even ask a jew, with their pure hebrew copies how it translates.

And the entire book of Abraham was proven false by egyptologists again and again.

Matt 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and tou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

Now, ignoring the fact that this doesn't match what the jewish messiah was supposed to do, this was the first mention ever of Christ's mortal name. Now, if Jehovah was the name of christ in the pre-mortal realm (which is true, according to Mormon beleif), then why was he throwing the name "Jesus Christ" around? First off, his name was Yeshuah, son of Yoseph, not Jesus Christ...

Argh, NONE OF IT MAKES SENSE!
"And the entire book of Abraham was proven false by egyptologists again and again."

can i have the dates and such details of the checks done by the eqyptologists. the source i ws given was a bit lacking in detail

thankyou.

the argument seems ok enough, but i wouldn't call it particularly certain.

The only egyptologist who agrees with what Joseph Smith translated is Hugh Nibley, who has been known to use false sources, and take things out of context. All other egyptologists agree that the papyri and Josephs translation don't match. They're not even close.
do you know who all the others are specifically?

Stephen Thompson, first and formost. He wrote the article I linked. He gives sources to many other egyptologists and to research done on ancient egyptian. There are many, many other sources, as well. Google for them.

Stephen Thompson received his Bachelors of Arts in Near Eastern Studies from Brigham Young University in 1984. He received his Masters of Arts and his Doctor of Philosophy in Egyptology from Brown University in 1988 and 1991, respectively.
do yuo have any info on Kerry A. Shirts. he appears to support Nibley on

all i can say as not an egyptologist, is that the argument is still going, and is not decided
I came across something interesting today and thought I would share it with all of you.

Another scientifically backed article proving that Mormonism is false.

It is rather long winded, but if you take the time to read it all. . . . I think you will be suprised at what you find.

To those mormons out there that keep "daring" us to read the BoM and pray about it. . . I dare you to read this and think about it. I know it will be hard, he uses a lot of big words, (Example: the, Book of Mormon, false, Joseph Smith, liar, ect., ect., ect.) But, I have faith you can read it all.

Actually Souls arent but I think she was confused and said spirit/soul. In that case, Spirit, being a finer form of matter in LDS doctrine, IS eternal, as based possibly off the writings of Thomas d**k's "Philosophy of a Future State" in which matter and intelligences are proposed to be eternal.

If you really cared, you would look into it yourself. The fact that you don't indicates that you are perfectly happy where you are, with no desire to question your comfy faith. Your conclusions are precluded so any evidence you found would be rationaized this way and that until you were satisfied that it was of little consequence. Thus saith Kiritsu. *bows*
Typical Mormon reasoning in an allegorical nutshell:

gentile: "don't use that egg, it's rotten. See those bad spots?"
lds roommate: "no it isn't. And maybe they are bad spots, maybe they aren't, but I have faith that it is not rotten."
