Welcome to Gaia! ::

I haven't seen it yet! gonk

But I think Dad will rent it soon, so I'll get to watch it then.

And I'm still Ducky :3 I'd love to pixel Lilly, after I'm done with the last two customs.

Shadowy Phantom

I think movie adaptation of other entertainment media are becoming more popular in general, since movies are so much less limited now than they were years ago. Hence all the fantasy novel, comic book and video game adaptations.

...come to think of it, I saw this nice fake trailer for a Half-Life movie, I think that would be awesome. No need for a Half-Life 2 movie though, the game tells the story better than any movie can (the point of the game and its sequels (the Episodes) is that you live through the story yourself, entirely in first-person, no cutscenes, no timeskips (well, not technically, but meh!).
I didn't like Johanna's voice at all. Her voice was too high and her nose is too pointy.

I thought the "by the sea" scene was a bit funny, the was Todd was always looking down. And when he was in the bathing suit. Good times.

I hope "Wicked" does come to theaters cuz I've never seen it before.
I was both relived and anergy that the Legend of Zelda movie trailer was fake. A LoZ movie would be beyond awesome (especally Twilight Princess. Midna = win), but the trailer looked kinda crappy. And Link looked weird XP

Shadowy Phantom

Jean: Maybe that's why I don't think I liked it, it was high and not very, eh "clean?" I think I thought she sounded like a pop singer rather than a musical/opera person. I can't recall, so here's a side rant:
I hate how people always say that female pop/rock singers with that slight unclean "rasp" can't sing, blah blah blah. It's a different type of voice and it has its own merits. It sounds better with rock and pop music than a flawless operatic voice would. Some singers literally sound too good for the music they are singing to and it sounds weird. A clean voice sounds best either solo or with music that has tremendous depth (orchestra yey), but it just doesn't "fit" with rock music. It worked in the Phantom of the Opera since the song's music had symphonic elements (although a friend of my mother's still has too strong a voice for it and it sounded odd when she performed it). It works in Nightwish (I mean their old songs before they switched vocalists and before their first vocalist stopped sounding epic/awesome) for the same reason.
So yeah. Both types are voices are good, just for different things. That's the same as saying women sound better than men when they sing. There are different parts for each gender (or rather, vocal type, if I ever hear a tenor singing a bass part again I'll hurt someone).

Edit: That wasn't directed at anyone, I just hear people say that having that type of voice should preclude someone from singing, period :/
Yeah, producers are useing books and games for movies so they can put some money in their pocket and entertain us. Most of them aren't that bad.

I just can't stand it when they mess everything up!

A LoZ movie would be the tightest!

ducky; yay <3

kyou; wow. a half-life movie might kill me.
but i'd be happy (:
with a smile on my face.

mew; really?
well, i'm a huge fan of "real art".
operas, musicals, orchestral/symphonic music, ballets, anything like that.
i love sweeney todd's expression in that scene. very poker.
to be honest, i hope they do so that people all over the world can see it.
but i'd probably cry when it comes out cause the air of "stage" will be gone.
i haven't seen it yet, but i'm seeing it in may (the weekend after dom's birthday) in chicago.
Yeah, I don't' get out for the arts much.
And yet, I'm an artist.
The only opera I've ever seen and one of my favorite movies is Phantom of the Opera.
I had to play a song from that, hard!

I'm just going to leave it at it was a good movie, I liked the singing and the whole reason Johnny Depp was in it.

I have to go, my moms going out.

kyou; it's a different style, yes.
even so, there is such a thing as a "bad voice".

johanna in the movie has a very clear bell-voice.
i liked it very much because even though it was so high, she never sang in falsetto.
there was also no fake-vibrato or straining.

there's alot of people who use mixers to fix their voice.
and it's very very clear when they do.

Shadowy Phantom

I'm mostly an opera and ballet person rather than other musicals and plays, but honestly I find movies and games to be most enjoyable since I find it hard to lose myself in a stage production.

Jean: The Phantom of the Opera is not an opera, actually. It's about operas though.

We shall now shift the topic to:
Movies we want to see made.

As I said, Half-Life 1 would be nice, but not 2, which sort of means that making HL1 would be silly ): Unless they make both in first person (but with plenty of reflective surfaces), that would be brilliant (but difficult, considering I have yet to see even an FPS game get first person view right, simply because of how our vision works, s**t doesn't translate to a flat screen at all).

It would be nice to see some "clips" of House of Leaves made, the Navidson Record, but not the entire story (that would ruin the effect).

I also want to see Dune made with H.R. Giger's designs, it would be so epic. I loved the Dune that was made instead, but I really think Giger's involvement would have made it even better. He got so much work done too, it's a shame to see it not used. Heck, I'd love to see all of the projects that he's worked on that never got made finally turned into movies, especially the Tourist. The Tourist could certainly be made now, we have all the CGI we could need for it, all that's needed is a revival of interest D:

If but one of the things I mentioned would get made, I would die happy. Well, maybe not the Navidson Record, I don't care all that much for it. But the rest of them~~

Edit: star: Oh I know there are lots of people out there with horrible voices, I'm just saying that having the "pop rasp" does not automatically make one's voice bad.
I guess I could be wrong about her voice, as I said, I can't remember it. For me, it was a visual movie, not an auditory one, despite being a musical.
And I agree about vocal manip. I don't mind it being done to change the sound of the voice, but using it to cover mistakes, which is how it's used 99% of the time, is silly.
Bai Mew domokun
Mew, when you get back on, tell me what you think of this:

I pretty much threw it together in 5 minuets so if you don't like it, I can fix things for you. 3nodding

Shadowy Phantom

Talie, I know you werenn't asking me, but I think that maybe you could fix a basic thing first, I think most people would agree with me. The text is very hard to read. I don't mean the fonts (that's up to Mew), but the fact that the background is the same values and general hues as the text, so it swallows it up. A lightening of it would work, or at least some sort of light-ish glow around the text. Or a darker, larger drop shadow, though I think that would only work for the orange text, it won't save the large black text.
Okay. I'm going to fix things later, I just wanted to see if Mew liked it.

But thanks for the advice :3

Shadowy Phantom

I'm always in crit-mode xD;;

Anyway, the text is probably easy for you to read since you know what it says, but it's harder for someone who sees it with no real expectations. It took me a while to figure out thet it sais "Salty Sweet" and while "an art shop" is technically readable without much difficulty, it's not very pleasant to read.
I suppose having a difficult to read headbanner won't turn many customers away on Gaia, but it's still a good idea to be good at making easy to read and attractive ones anyway, especially if you ever intend to sell art outside of Gaia. /randomadvicewut.
