It is not automatically caused by "being a whore", or "being stupid", or "being desperate", or any other of the ignorant comments being made here. Accidental pregnancy can occur to most sexually active females in their child-bearing years.

It is because of Hollywood. Young girls see their idols getting pregnant and they want that too. Take for example Britney Spears' sister who got pregnant at what like age 15? Girls see "oh she has a baby, I want one too." They think it's all fun to have babies because celebrities are having them too. Having babies has become a big deal in Hollywood. Look at the media now and every celebrities wants a baby. It's like a baby fad world. So in conclusion, girls see that celebrities are going with their babies, all famous and they want to see what its all about. Except they don't realize how much it costs to have a baby. They don't see that celebs are rich and can pay for nannies to take care of their kids.

It's all about "the baby fad."

Because they are not appropriately taught about sex and safe sex, and thus are ignorant to needing protection. In addition kids are young and immature and don't think about the consequences of their actions. Their parents not taking responsibility and ensuring their children are educated about sex and proper decision-making also contributes.

Perhaps teen pregnancy is going up, perhaps it is going down, i dont know. What i do know is slowly but surely movies like Knocked up and Juno and television shows like The Secret Life of the American Teenager is telling people such things are ok. they show the BEST POSSIBLE SENARIO for these events and it is scary. these things never show the teenager who is terrified and gets an abortion, the teenager who DOESNT get pregnant, or ever the teenager who gives the child up for adoption. Teens have a hard enough life as it is without screwing up three lives at once with this pregnancy crap that was seen as disgraceful years ago. we blame tv and video games yet we refuse to parent and teach children what is right and what is wrong. look out Roman Empire we are going to fall just as hard twice as fast.

About the topic on hand, there are many reasons girls/women get pregnant, whether it be ignorance (Thanks to abstinence-only education) or failure of contraception. All I'm worried about is that they make a mature decision about how to handle the pregnancy.

it's mainly because the schools do not provide the programs because the idio-*coughs* parents don't want their 'babies' to grow up yet.
but they forget that by the time the 'babies' are in middle school, they're normally old enough to have kids.
and from the lack of sexual education and heavy media, music and tv, pressure, kids try to act like 'grown ups' and do 'grown up' things.
even though sometimes they know that they have no idea what their doing, others think they do.
which can sometimes lead to very stupid mistakes, that they later regret.
