If only one thing about this discussion about Fat Talk resonates with you, remember this: When you feel guilty about food, you are experiencing distorted thinking.

That's true to a certain extent, in my opinion.

I feel guilt about some foods, but it's usually about things like greasy fries and drinking tons of sodas, not because I'm afraid I'll gain weight, but because I'm afraid for my kidney failure. I don't know if this is a taboo topic, though, so I'll leave it at that. Sorry if it is.

Anyhow, I think this is a great idea. I'd love to participate; I'll start as soon as I can (prolly start putting some up tomorrow).

Well, guilt about health isn't the same thing as guilt about worrying about weight, you know what I mean? The whole "fat-talk" thing was put in because a large amount of people believe they need to lose weight whether they actually need to or not. As someone who spent a whole year trying to diet, who spent several years self-loathing, and spent a whole year in several dieting communities I can tell you that from my experiences guilt helped no one.

I would often see people beat themselves up for a "mistake" a "slip" or a binge (and the binging was probably mostly a result of the restrictive diet). They'd hate themselves and everyone would say "it's okay you'll do better next time!" except they never did. They eventually made a mistake again and went back to hating themselves. As anyone who tries to diet a lot can tell you, it's hard to make a mistake and feel like it's worth even trying anymore. So not only is guilt counter-productive to self-esteem, it's counter-productive to trying to lose weight also.

So there's my lil rant of the day XD I think it's necessary that we DO stay aware of what we put into our bodies for health reasons but not so much for weight reasons.

It's great that you'd like to join in! Please tell us all about your sticky note adventures and make yourself at home! 3nodding

Aww! I love this! I'm really into trying to make myself and other people feel beautiful as opposed to putting them down! I'm going to stick around here.

I still say the whole 'fat talk' ban is counter-productive to the operation. My example is as follows:

In the bible it says something like 'if you think you will steal chop off your hands. It is better to enter the kingdom of heaven then it is to be rich with Earthly pleasures of sin.'

How much good is one really doing there? The hands may be gone so the person may never actually commit theft but, in their thoughts, they may always have that natural urge to steal something. Is that not the equivalent of the person being a thief?

The same applies here. 'fat talk' is not allowed in the thread. Outside the thread, however, a person may look in the mirror or at the scale and say to themselves "I'm a fat, fat, fatty, fat, fat, fat." The only difference being that if they say this in the thread they can have support of people who know what it's like whereas, with the 'fat talk' ban, the person may still have that thought when they look in the mirror or at the scale but they're dealing with it alone instead of with a support network, and in their thoughts they may always look at themselves as a 'fat, fat, fatty, fat, fat, fat'.

Okay, I totally see your point this time (not being on pain killers helps xd ) I'll definitely look into changing the rules around to prevent this from happening.

Hey everyone. I'm having an awful sort of argument with my Caleb.
So I'm not really feeling my best.

Aww we love you anyway Lauren. How was your day otherwise?

boring, nothing else really happened today.

He's trying to convince me that I'll still be able to make it there by christmas, but i just don't see how it's possible. Soon, i'm hardly even going to be able to find a flight down there, with all the holiday travelling. But I can't buy a ticket not if there's no certainty that I'm even going to be able to move in yet.

It sounds like he's trying to rush you into a decision. I believe you're right for wanting to make sure plans are cemented before taking any definite steps. It also sounds like he's really excited to see you, which would be cute if he weren't making it so frustrating. I'm not sure what to offer here, I don't think there's a compromise that would suit you both and my instinct tells me you're taking the correct stand by ensuring everything is in place first.

Starlurk, you always make me smile. smile Even with all of your health problems, you go through and make a point of replying to every single message people have left since the last time you were here. smile You're an inspiration.

Aww thank you ;o; really my health problems weren't that bad, I'm just a baby, I promise!

How is the new place Aria? smile

Great smile I love having my own space and not having to worry about being in anyone else's way. There is also only one mirror and that's in the bathroom, and I don't own a scale, so I think that's probably helping me some, keeping me from getting bogged down.
I also don't have a couch, a TV, or a real kitchen table. I'm borrowing my mom's card table and folding chairs, and my "couch" is two foldable, hot pink moon chairs. They're really comfy and good for curling up in while I'm working on Christmas presents or reading, but I can't wait to get an actual couch, if for nothing else, I am NOT a pink kind of person sweatdrop

Re: Muscle Magazines - I don't find six packs to be the least bit attractive, but I want one. Really really bad. Less for appearances sake and more because I want to have gnarly strong stomach muscles. whee

Lauren - sad I'm sorry you guys are arguing. That's always horrible. *hugs*

I'm glad to hear you're enjoying your place! biggrin I hope you get some comfortable furniture soon XD It's wonderful that you have a place that encourages you to feel better about yourself too, you know what I mean?

I'll totally buy those two hot pink moon chairs from you XD (I AM a pink person) xd

Hi there... other people. smile Um... so I googled You Are Beautiful at mysterygoogle. com and got this: Did you mean: Waffle pwns pancakes.I CONCUR
DarkGoddess404
so far from what i see, this thread is quite helpful.
im glad someone has made something like this
i'll be sure to get some sticky notes in the morning =]

i like to think of myself as at least average but in the society i feel i live in, me being who i am isnt enough
my dark skin is wrong
my nappy hair is wrong
my lips are too big
my eyes are too dark
i dont act black enough,
im too "white washed"
im this or that.

by everyone elses standards im ugly and abnormal and i dont see why.
its hard to make urself feel worth something when u constantly get comments bringing u down.

my boyfriend tells me im beautiful sometimes but do to what he does behind my back at times its very hard to believe him.

but i try to define my own beauty
and this thread definitely helps me get ideas to make others aware of his or her own selfworth

i just felt i needed to type this...
thanks again

I do hope you'll stick around. heart

You are enough!
Your dark skin is *perfect*
Your hair is *beautiful*
Your lips are just the right size!
Your eyes are beautiful!

Stereotypes are overrated, nothing bothers me more than someone being told they aren't acting in a way that their "group" would. You are beautiful just as you are!

*hugs* Please make yourself at home here! 3nodding

Well the situation is.
I'm supposed to be moving in with him, but the decision is up to his mom since it's her house. She still hasn't made up her mind, which is why I dunno if I can go yet. But yeah, I can't really just buy a plane ticket if I dunno if she'll say yes for sure. Everything does have to be in place before I go and move my entire life across the country.
