Blitzkrieg Beauty: In my experience, people suffering from an ed like anorexia does not like looking at Operation Beautiful because it makes them feel bad, it makes them feel like it's about everyone but them.
That's not a good thing of course, and one of the downsides to Operation Beautiful, but if an anorexic girl truly believed she was beautiful, she wouldn't need to be anorexic anymore. That's the downfall of ed's nothing is every good enough when it comes to making them pretty, no matter what they do, they'll never view themselves as beautiful while they fight the disease.
But a lot of people who have overeating disorders believe they are beautiful, and telling those people that their eating disorders are okay and that they're beautiful regardless of how unhealthy they are is a very bad thing.
I'm not saying Operation Beautiful is a bad thing at all, but it's scary to tell people who have eating disorders that it's okay to have those eating disorders, which is something that happens with things like this.
In the end, it's about being happy with yourself, but it's not wrong to want to change yourself either. Like, if you're unhappy with being a certain weight and can healthily and realistically get to a more ideal weight (your ideal, not someone else's), I think that's a really great thing.
I don't know a single person with an overeating disorder who believes they're beautiful. I also don't know a single person who might look like they have an overeating disorder who believes they're beautiful. I know a few people who pretend, who try to embrace themselves for who they are because they've given up on dieting, and I'm okay with that. In my experience with eating healthy, the better I felt about myself self-esteem-wise, the more likely I was to try it. The worse I felt about myself, the more likely I was to eat at Fazolli's fast-food pasta ;P
And honestly, with any positive thing, someone can say, but what if it's reinforcing something negative in a small amount of people? Well, so it's reinforcing something negative in a small amount of people, it's better than doing nothing and reinforcing something incredibly negative in a large amount of people isn't it?
I just can't shake the belief that most people treat themselves better when they feel better about themselves, and if a few don't, I'm okay with that, because at least it's making a lot of people feel better who deserve to feel better.
