"So it was because of the promise then..." Trying to hold back a sigh, he pulled the blanket over his head. His face became colder like someone had splashed cold water over him in this winter. All because of the stupid promise I made when I was a child? She is so serious, how could I tell her I have already given up? Now Azure had taken back his awareness. He had to carry out his plan before: making Alexis come back to her place and enjoy her girly life, not in an all boy school with a short hair and binding chest like this. Any boy could find out the truth and harm her. This thought made Azure shiver with fear. "Hey Alexis..." Azure paused for a while to check out if Alexis was sleeping or not, but then he kept talking whether she could hear or not "... what would you do if I said I gave up?"

As she was enjoying the warmth of her bed Alexis made adjustments in the folds of the cloth here and there to wrap herself in as much fluff and softness as possible, the end reach of which was a large cocoon she could skillfully maneuver in. Once she was satisfied with the layout of her bed she pulled her arms inside the giant t-shirt she wore to sleep in and unwrapped her chest, allowing her to breath, it felt much better this way. Hearing her name the girl put her wrappings on the nightstand beside her and turned to see Azure looking in her general direction, but more into space then straight at her. He asked what she would do if he gave up and in an instant she was shocked. Alexis had never considered that he could give up, it just didn't seem like an option to her. They were both so passionate about athletics, why would he? Then again, he had been taking a lot of hits lately and the critics in the magazines she read (that unfortunately rarely showcased her friend anymore) were getting less and less kind, after all, that's why she had come here. Making a cute yet still serious face she wondered what she would do. "Well," she began, "I'd probably get mad first because then I wouldn't have anyone to compete against." she admitted truthfully before moving on. "And then, I'd force you to try out for as many sports teams as possible!" she added with a cheery disposition a a determined fist pump into the chilling air. This then caused her to quickly recoil the arm and stuff it back into the warm blankets. "You're not really thinking about that though are you?" she asked softly, for a moment wondering if Azure had been serious. That was impossible though. "Oh, I'm going out for the track team tomorrow. You should come watch me. Are you on the team?" she asked randomly, not even giving him time to answer her last question.

"Well do whatever you want. I'm in the team of mine." Said Azure and he closed his eyes. Somehow Azure was irritated. What Alexis said made him remember back the old time and memories that he wished he hadn't remembered. Azure knew she also had to go a long way to find him but... This is Azure's world and Azure's rules, no one could change it without his permission and at this moment he could know for sure, he HATED sports.
....
It's already morning. Someone was knocking continuously at the door. "Azure, wake up, wake up right now!..." Azure rubbed his eyes and grumbled at the impolite one. At the door stood Kevin with an excited face "You must hurry up! The track team has a competition this morning". Taking a glance at Alexis's bed, which was already made in a tidy way, Azure shook his head and came back to his bed "Who cares? It's none of my business" "Come on, you know Alex has applied for the track team right?" Said Kevin and he tried to drag Azure out of the room. "Hey, what are you doing? At least give me some time to do the daily routine..."
...
Azure and Kevin walked to the stadium. Many people gathered here and Azure recognized that they were member from many sport teams in the school. It seemed that they realized Azure's appearance, they started whispering. It made Azure frown "Have your daddy told you to speak loudly when being a man?" " You think you have right to say that, loser?" Kevin dragged Azure out of the quarrel and said to the angry boys with a smile "Sorry, he is kinda bad-tempered". In another corner "Are you crazy? You almost get yourself involved in another fight..." When Kevin was trying to blame on Azure, the audience at the stadium suddenly applauded and shouting out loud. There was the track team!

Alexis was a bit thrown off by what Azure said about his own team. She didn't quite understand what he meant but realized they must have both been pretty tired and decided to leave it alone. She snuggled into the blankets even more, hiding a majority of her face, with the exception of her eyes which closed softly after a few moment of fixating on her old friend. Since he knew who she was she didn't even try to hide her dog anymore, and his head was peeking out of the covers just like hers as his body was being constricted by her little arms.

The next morning the tight, little cocoon that the girl had constructed out of her blankets was utterly destroyed and her blankets were sprawled everywhere while still barely covering her body. Her arms were spread wide like eagles wings and her legs were curled together to the left side of her body, giving her an odd look, as though she was going to jump into the air at any moment. But when her alarm woke her up she quickly reached out her arm to turn it off and pulled herself out of bed to get ready for the day. Usually, Alexis was the least like herself in the mornings, she hated everything about the mornings, the waking up, the taunting of a comfy bed while you got dressed and brushed your teeth, everything was just so depressing. But this morning was different. Instead of focusing on the fluffy pillows a few feet away she was focusing on her track meet just half an hour away, it was going to be so fun. She had half a mind to wake up Azure and drag him along with her, eager to show off. However, she decided against it, hoping that if he had a bit more time to sleep he would come see her anyways, and even be happy about it. So, all dressed up in her jogging uniform, Alexis practically skipping out of the room and down the hall, thrilled to get started on her running.

In the beginning of the track meet there was a competition with another school just before the try-outs. It was probably a ploy to get some kids who weren't planning to be on the team to try out anyways, but since Alexis already couldn't wait for her chance to shine the runners were making her jump up and down in her seat even more. It was thrilling. Soon after she arrived the competition was over and people began filling the track for try-outs. She was one of them. Because she was in front of the crowd of kids in line the president of the club picked her as one of the five that was going first. This was amazing!

As she lined up for the race Alexis found herself in the middle lane, lined by two boys on both sides. It was a little striking to be surrounded by guys, usually she was competing with at least one other girl, it felt different being alone out here, but no one knew but her so she had to keep it to herself, and that's sort of what she liked about running anyways, being alone and relying on no one but herself. She got all the blame and all the glory, it was the best part of her passion. So, with a deep breath, and the sound of a gun shot, they were off. Everyone was running, and Alexis thought that she had met her match with two of the boys for a moment, but after a while there legs began to tire and hers did not. She had this determined look on her face that looked like she could never loose, as though she knew she was going to win no matter what, and in the middle of the expression a tiny smile was hidden, and it grew even bigger as she finished the first lap and she was in first place. She was going to win!

" That small guy is really fast huh?" " I thought he is a transferred student" "Oh cool! That's why I haven't seen him around" Listening to those praises, Azure felt both proud and ashamed. Alexis was a girl but she could do better than any boy, and might be better than what Azure could do. Her effort made people admire. What about Azure? He was such a loser who could not stand up after his lost and whom people were now only finding a way to laugh at. Some how Azure was jealous when remembering back his old days at the top. All this cheers and applause, it would be no more when one lost. That now made Azure irritated. Why don't they learn how to encourage others when they lost? Making himself satisfied with that reason, Azure left that noisy place, ignored Kevin who was trying to call him back in vain "Hey Azure, where are you going? The competition hasn't been finished..."Looking at Azure's red face becoz of anger, Kevin partially guessed there was something not normal in Azure's mind.
...
Azure came back to his room, messed up his drawer and picked his little bottle of alcohol. It was hidden so secretly because of the strict regulations in this school. Azure opened it and took a gulp. The alcohol made his head dizzy but he still wanted to drink all the rest until nothing left. The promise with Alexis was broken, now he was just an weakling in her eyes, so what? What have I done? It's stupid... really stupid. He threw the bottle at the wall, threw any obstacles in front of him and punched at the wall howling in pain. The pain did not lie at the hands which were bleeding but inside his heart. He could not be aware of what was happening, acting like a mad man. After hurting himself enough, he knelt on the floor crying out loud...

After a few more laps Alexis came in first by a good foot and even though she knew she was going to have some competition for the season all she could think about was whether or not Azure saw her. She grabbed a towel from a boy who was passing them out to all the runners and scanned the bleachers with her eyes. During her second scan she found Kevin sitting up high, a bit to her left. He was watching the second round of potential runners start their try-outs. Wiping some of the sweat off her brow the girl jogged up the stairs and said "Hi" to the enthusiastic boy. From how excited he seemed she guessed him to be an athlete as well, or at least a close admirer. "If Azure where here he'd be with Kevin, he's probably still asleep." she thought briefly, looking around one last time to see if she had possible missed him. She hadn't.

After a quick good-bye to Kevin, Alexis decided to go back too her dorm and change into regular close, they wouldn't be announcing who made the team for a while anyways and she would be back in plenty of time. So, still energized from her try-out, she ran through the campus, into her building, and down the halls until she reached her door. When she was a few steps away she heard a terrible scream coming from the other side, it felt painful and it sounded like Azure. Alexis eyes widened and she grabbed the door handle, flinging it open. Inside she saw many things that had been tossed over or destroyed and by the far wall Azure sat on the floor, looking just as broken as the cracked bottle next to him. "Azure!" she ran to his side, sliding on her knees to come face to face with him. The first thing her eyes took in was the blood on his hands. "What..?" she didn't finish her question, she was to busy looking for any other injuries. His legs were fine, his torso was alright, chest, good, neck, undamaged, face...he was crying. Alexis couldn't remember if she had ever seen him cry, but if she had, it certainly wasn't like this. He looked defeated, as though he had just lost a great fight, her heart plummeted. "Azure, what happened?" she asked slowly, her voice soft and gentle as she grabbed one of his blood smeared hands with hers and used her other hand to wipe tears from his cheek. She wanted to help, but she didn't know how.

Azure's head hurt. There was sound of steps coming near but he did not bother to stand up. It might be the teachers who could find the students who went against the rules or ... Thinking just made it hurt more. "Just leave me alone..." Azure gradually lost his conscious and fainted.
At that time Kevin had reached the room too. Looking at the messy image of the room and the broken glass pieces of the bottle, he could guessed what had happened. He hastily closed the door and helped Azure on bed. "Stupid Azure, he had allergy to alcohol but why he tried to torture himself by this way?" Then he turned back and gave Alex a serious look "Do you know he had come to watch your effort? Then he acted strange and became like this. Is there anything happened between you two?"

"Azure? Azure. Azure!" At first Alexis was confused, why was he telling her to leave him alone, did he not see who she was? Then, as he began to faint, she began to panic. The poor girl had no clue what was going on, or why her friend was collapsing for no reason, she started to want to cry herself. She grabbed the boy by the waist to keep his head from hitting the ground and laid him carefully on her lap, she was to weak to haul his body onto the bed. That is when she heard the door close behind her and the blond whipped her head around to see Kevin standing in the door way. She gave him a helpless look that seemed to scream "Help me!" But she was grateful he was there, he had a handy gift for showing up just when she needed him.

After Azure was safely on the bed and Kevin started to talk Alexis began to feel numb, the feeling in her fingers and toes were gone, but she could still hear so she did her best to concentrate on what the boy across from her was saying. "Alcohol?" she whispered to herself, turning to see the broken bottle she had noticed earlier. Now that she looked closely, it did look like a container for whiskey or vodka or something of that sort. "Had anything happened?" The words rang inside her ears. Well, he had figured out she was a girl and an old friend. Last night he had started talking to her about their promise. The promise, had he really been serious about quitting? She had said all of those horrible things, and she hadn't even thought it would be possible. She was such a horrible person, she hadn't even realized how much pain Azure must have been in and she just made it worse. When she put her hands to her face to cover her pained expression Alexis felt something wet, tears. She had started to cry and she didn't even realize it. There was so much guilt and sadness and anger inside her head it just came flowing out. She felt embarrassed for crying in front of Kevin, but no matter how hard she tried she couldn't stop.

Seeing Alex started crying, Kevin went confused. Oh my gosh, did I ask the wrong question? "Hey hey... Sorry, I did not mean to ask you with that face..." Kevin hated crying and hated seeing others crying, that's why he always smiled and made others smile. He had never been put in a situation like this so at first he did not knew what to do. Looking at Alex's face, Kevin could not explain why he thought it looked like a puppy's. And it's cute.... Heck, no!... You start talking nonsense, Kevin. And as he thought so, he did not realize when he had already put his hand on Alex's head. Damn, I know things will be like this if I think of strange stuff. He did not know what to say to the crying boy in front of him, well, some encouraging words might help, no? "Er.. calm down... calm down... everything will be alright...". And for an unknown reason, Kevin did not know why he hugged Alex and patted on his back. This is now totally weird... Thought Kevin and he himself did not understand.

Alexis shook her head, she knew it wasn't Kevin's fault, how could it be? It was an awful feeling when she realized she was the one who had cause him to feel that way. However, she still couldn't bring herself to speak, she couldn't bring herself to do anything. It was really difficult to have so many emotions and thoughts and yet no control over your body to act on them. When she felt the boys hand on her head it was so soothing, just having human contact felt nice, so when he hugged her, for a second, she felt at ease. She felt comforted, but they still weren't Azure's arms. Turning her head slightly she moved her hands just enough to see her friends motionless body on the bed, he looked so peaceful.

Because her hands had still been covering her face at the time Kevin embraced the young girl her arms separated both their chests and made it impossible for her secret to get out. Unfortunately for her, she realized after a moment that she could not risk the chance of getting to close to the boy anyways. Taking a step back she began to wipe the tears from her cheeks. "I'm sorry, it's not your fault, I just..." she paused. Alexis didn't know how to explain herself right now, she didn't want to say anything weird and chance loosing Kevin's help, he had been wonderful. She was also sure Azure appreciated the boys friendship very much, they didn't attack very close but they were always together, or so it seemed. "I'm just not used to all this fainting, it seems every time I'm around him something bad happens." she said with a strong tone, trying to force a bit of humor into her voice so that it sounded like a joke. They stood there for a moment and after the blond was able to get control of her tear ducts she walked over to Azure and sat beside him on the bed. "Should we get him to a hospital, if he's allergic to alcohol, or do we just wait till it works itself out of his system?" she asked in a slightly more calm manner. She couldn't think about anything but Azure right now, not even herself, that was to selfish. She needed to make sure he was alright.

Kevin managed to stuttered because he was too embarrassed "D...Don't worry... He will be okay... I have been in this situation several times". At that time he blamed himself for acting like a weirdo. His heart was beating fast, which made him not understand himself. What the heck? Why he is so cute... No, no and no... Such things between boys should not happen. This is an all boy school so stop acting crazily and find yourself a girl, Kevin. Nodded to himself, he almost did not pay attention to the moment he hugged Alex. There was something really strange but he could not figure it out, and now he almost forgot it. It was because Kevin was a carefree one. Understanding people was not his ability, this was also the reason why he did not have a girl friend although he was handsome and cheerful. In other word, Kevin was so insensitive. "Well, wanna have a drink? I guess you are tired after that run." And he gave those still wet eyes a sincere look "I will be in charge of everything that happens to Azure, I promise"

Alexis nodded slightly as he told her Azure would be fine, after that she just kind of tuned out. As long as he was alright she didn't really care what else was going on. Even though she had only been back with Azure for two days she still felt very close to him, even closer then when they were young. It was probably because of that kiss they shared. It had been amazing but she was certain it had been a mistake. It was all she could think about for a few hours afterwords, and even now a large voice in her head pushed her to kiss him again. He looked so gentle like this, she could only imagine the pain he was going through inside his head, a raging war, and yet the destruction on the inside only made him all the more handsome.

Alexis lifted her hand to reposition a stray hair on his forehead, but simply played it of by moving her own hair when she remembered that Kevin was in the room. The girl turned around after a moment and tried to pay more attention to the boy in the room who was still conscious, but matter how guilty she felt about Azure. "What?" she asked quickly when she saw Kevin looking at her as though waiting for an answer. Then she realized she had already heard the question. "Oh, a drink." Hesitating the blond turned back to her friend. "I suppose it wouldn't hurt. And I am pretty thirsty. Sure!" she responded before standing up and walking back over to the dark haired boy. She had put a little fake enthusiasm in her last word to try and make it seem like she was fine leaving Azure like this, even though the truth was that it troubled her greatly. She was beginning to realize how good she was getting at faking emotions.

"Cool!" And Kevin walked out of the room, whistled on his way while trying to talk about something funny. However, he felt that Alex's soul was not here but beside his room mate. It's understandable. Azure had something that attract others despite his cold expression. Kevin still remembered the first day he met Azure. Like everyone, at first he thought Azure was an indifferent and arrogant one. Once when Kevin had to draw a big picture on a wall in the hall in order to do the decoration for the school festival, he had called for help from his friend but everyone denied because of the club activity schedule. Seeing one of his classmates - Azure, who was free from club activity, he risked his life to ask him for help one day when Azure was sleeping under a tree "Hello, Azure..." "Hm?" Azure half-opened his eyes with a frown "Sorry, I'm Kevin, one of your classmates, do you remember me?" "Yes, I'm not blind. What do you want from me?" Kevin was surprised, was it because Azure was intelligent or Kevin was so obvious? "If you have some free time, could you please help me with the decoration for the school festival?" Suddenly Azure stood up, picked up his bag and went away "Sorry I'm busy sleeping". Kevin sighed. It's the way he is. That day Kevin had club activity till late at night so he had to come to the the hall really late. He ran to the hall with a sandwich in his mouth, blamed himself for being so stupid to accept to decorate for the festival. Then he became motionless because of surprise when stepping inside the hall. In front of Kevin was the big picture of a sunny garden which was half-done and standing on the ladder was Azure with paint stains on his old jacket. Azure did not seem to recognize the appearance of Kevin, he continued with his great product. "Azure?" Kevin's voice made him startled and he dropped his brush. "Oh... Hi..." " What are you doing here?" Azure climbed down, picked up the brush and gave it to Kevin "Just passed by and got irritated by what you did to the wall" Kevin remembered back about the wall hours ago, it looked like a kindergarten child's picture. When he was thinking, Azure took off his jacket, put the paint bucket down and was about to leave. "Hey wait!" "What now?" "Could you please help me finish this? It will become a disaster if you let me do the rest" Azure frowned and scratched his head while yawning "What is the benefit for this?" "I will become your friend" Kevin said with a big grin. "No, thanks. You are a nuisance" Azure turned back and climbed up the ladder "Why are you still standing there? Want me to do all with these bare hands?" "Oh yeah..." Kevin fetched Azure with the brush and the bucket, then he laughed out loud " Hey Azure" "What now?" "Can I call you Aza?" "Just shut up nuisance". Since then, Azure had not admitted to be friend with Kevin but when he called him Aza, he had no objection. And Kevin regarded that Azure was his friend.
..................
While heading to the cafeteria, Kevin saw some people gathering at the notice board. There were also some boys in his class so he ran to their place "What's going on?" "Hahaha... A gender-bend fall dance.... This school has so many crazy stuff." " Really?" "Take a look at the board yourself" It took Kevin a couple of minutes to take a peek at the announcement. On the board was a big title "Gender-bend fall dance 2010, the class which has the winners will win a trip to Tikitika Island". This is gonna be fun. Thought Kevin and he smiled.
