As he waited he must have been letting off more than he thought because one of the ladies in the office kept looking at him. This wasn't like him because in the past he had always been able to conceal his feelings. That was his thing, never showing emotion. Which mean't his panic attack must be bad, really bad. Usually by now he would have given her a dirty look so she would get the hint to bugger off but he was too busy trying to calm himself. Bentley suddenly shoved his hands in his pocket and leaned against the wall. He then closed his eyes hoping that it would help to shut everything out. The first three breathes that he took after that were large ones. The kind the fills up your lungs entirely where you feel like you just might faint. He then evened it and got it to be just like it was before he found out about Diane. Finally he stood there quietly up until he heard Cherise's voice come out of know where. For any other person it probably would have made them jump but for him it didn't. She was constantly pushing her nose into things she had no business being apart of so he was use to that voice of hers. Especially when it came up at random times because he swore that her timing was impeccable. Although the way she spoke to him the tone of her voice was what caught up to him first. It wasn't even what she was saying, it was the way she was saying it. It was funny, he could remember a time when she never spoke to him like that. The days when they were really close and would go to each other for anything. Those days were long over, so long over, and he couldn't be more happy about it. Instead of responding to her right away he decided that the two should get out of the office first. With the talk that he just had with Aaron and the emotions he had raging inside him he was on edge. As of right now he wasn't sure if he'd be able to keep his calm through this walk over to the hospital. It seemed that she had the same idea as well when she motioned for him to speed up. At this he wanted to stop all together because he suddenly felt like a dog being told what to do, but he refrained.

Once they both stepped outside he could feel the cool weather on his skin. The fresh air helped his nerve's only slightly but it didn't last long. Immediately Cherise stopped and looked at him face to face for the first time in a while. His pulled his head back a little bit because she, right off the bat, began bitching him out. "Cherise, stay out my business" Instead of waiting for her to do so he walked around her and walked off ahead of her this time. For a short moment he thought about biting his tongue but he mentally shook his head at the thought. No, not this time. Through out the last six months he had done so well keeping his temper down for the most part but this was it. The straw that broke the camel's back. He was tired of everyone yelling at him today and tired of everyone getting on his case. So he turned around and looked back at Cherise. As he began to walk backwards he let it out. "I'm not her boyfriend any more. I'm just the father to her child." This was the first time that he had fully admitted that. If he was any where else he probably would have had a slight hard time saying the 'father to her child' part. It was the adrenaline rushing through his body that kept him going strong and firm. "Really, I could not be there at all but I am. Alright? So piss off." Yeah, he knew he wasn't there right now and it was a mistake but how was he to know that she was going to go into labor just as he had left. On top of that he had really been making a effort. Obviously not the best, but decent. He moved back into the orphanage so he could be close to her and before that he went to every doctor's visit. That was what made him feel like she was out of line. After that last statement he was fully done with her and everyone else. He didn't want to see his brother, he didn't want to see Cherise, and he didn't want to see Diane. Though he still put everything aside and continued in the direction of the hospital. He didn't look back the entire way so he wasn't too sure if Cherise was still behind him as he walked into the large building. For all he knew she took a different path because she didn't want to see him either. "Bentley, where's Cherise?" At that he shrugged and then walked over to the desk to ask for Diane's room number. He could have asked Aaron surely but if it was up to him he would have no contact with him right now. Once he got it he walked down through the double doors and down the brightly lit hall to her room. Instead of going right in he took in one last breathe and made sure he was fully composed. This was it, and so he pushed himself inside.

"Just hope he shows up soon," were the last words of Dr. Harriot before Diane was left alone once again in the hospital room.

Uncomfortable, she looked around the room. Diane was used to these hospital rooms, but this time it was for a reason she had never experienced in the past. She swallowed hard because she knew her life could end once her baby was born. She was fighting harder than she ever had, she was not going to lose; she would never be able to forgive herself if she did. Her back was supported by many pillows, and she bent her neck back to look up at the ceiling. "Mom, I don't understand how you were able to do this," she said aloud and then added, "I wish you could be here with me to see them."

Hearing the open of the door, Diane could only think that it was Dr. Harriot to check up on her. Wrong, it was the person she least expected, Bentley. Rubbing her eyes to make sure she was not seeing things, she sat there in shock. She had many ways to start the conversation with him, but, knowing Diane, she frequently let whatever popped up in her mind slip out first, "Where the ******** have you been?" She was angry and there was no way she would let this go. "I woke up this morning to my water breaking, how wonderful!" her sarcasm seeped out of her as she said this because it was clear that she had experienced Hell that morning.

"I was looking for you, expecting you to be home, and you were gone. Your brother took me to the hospital and thank God for that! He has the best timing because I would actually be here right now alone if he hadn't shown up!" Diane gritted her teeth, she was pissed. She had been pissed all morning and she was going to let it all out now. "I have been with your goddamn child for nine months. I have been trying my goddamn best that this baby turns out fine. Where the ******** have you been for those first six months? Goddammit, I feel terrible that Cherise and Aaron were here through all of it. I'm a ******** whale."

Diane's eyes were on fire as she spoke and she was going to continue further, but then she said, "Holy ******** s**t — OW WHAT THE ACTUAL ********]" It was another unexpected contraction and she was definitely not prepared for that by her reaction to the sudden pain. She gripped onto the railing on the side of the bed with one hand, closed her eyes tight, and held onto her stomach. "Ow, ow, ow," she whimpered in pain.

Once the pain eased down again, Diane did not look at Bentley but down at her stomach. She gently wrapped her arms around it and said, only loud enough for him to hear, "Bentley, I'm scared. I could die. I'm so sorry I dragged you into all of this, I never meant for it to turn out this way." She then looked at Bentley with fear, she could no longer keep it hidden any longer.

As soon as he walked in the first thing he noticed where the plain white walls. They were dull, unwelcoming, and boarder line claustrophobic. His eyes began to wonder all through out the room hoping that there would be something in there that would bring the place to life. They kept going but suddenly stopped when they caught sight of Diane laying in a bed at the end of the room. The back was pushed up against the wall and it was placed in the very middle of it. For a moment he just looked at her and took in the emotions that he could tell she was feeling. They had known each other for the last thirteen years and if anyone knew her facial expression's it was Bentley. Immediately he noticed the pain that she had written all over her face. Obviously he had never had a baby, and he had never been in the room when someone was, but he knew that it hurt. He didn't know the exact science of it but he definitely knew where the baby was suppose to come out of. The stretching of that part and how you became dilated was were his knowledge ended. All he knew was that they were called contractions and that was only because Diane would have small ones every once in a great while. The next thing he noticed was how uncomfortable she was and he assumed it had something to do with all of the things she was hooked up too. There was the IV fluids, the heart rate monitor, and a bunch of other things he was unsure of what they were. Literally, there were wires every where. Last but not least he could see the fear that was settled in on her face. As bad as it sounded it was nice to know that he wasn't the only one freaking out about this entire thing. It had been really hard to tell over the last couple of months because of how strong she carried and presented herself. Obviously that didn't fool him, he could tell she was still afraid, but he didn't know the full extent of it until this very moment.

For some reason that gave him the courage and confidence to walk forward and into the light. Although, as he did, her facial expression changed. It went from all of the ones listed above to pissed off in one point five seconds. He knew what was coming and so he walked a bit closer and let her get it all out. "For ******** sake, I went out for a walk!" He was so tired of everyone asking, "where were you?" He had heard enough of it for an entire life time. "I'm sorry that being couped up in the orphanage is okay with you, but for me it's not." To be honest, Bentley always hated it there even from the start. At first it was because he felt like an outcast due to the fact that Diane, Cherise, and Aaron were the only one's that would hang out with him. Years later, when he got older, the reason became that he felt so locked in and settled down. He was stuck at the orphanage with absolutely no where too go. On top of that Diane, even though he was happy in the relationship at the time, always pushed him until no end. All of these reason's was what brought him to go back to his parents, but he was just waiting for the perfect excuse and that was what the break up was. An excuse to leave and get away and never come back. That was his plan after all, up until he heard the news that he had accidentally gotten his ex girlfriend pregnant. All these idea's flew through his head and they only became more real when she had brought up his absence. He was just about to finally let it all out when Diane's eyes grew huge and her face faultered. Bentley watched as she reached out to the bar and grabbed on. In second her knuckles were turning white which gave him a pretty good insight on her grip. He thought about going over and comforting her but he mentally shook his head. No, he didn't want to get to close. Not to her physically, but emotionally. Once the contraction passed she didn't go back to being pissed, she was suddenly back to terrified. It wasn't until she stated the big news that he changed his mind about going closer. All of these years she had been fighting for her life but now she was fighting for both her's and their baby's. Calmly he walked towards the bed side and pulled a chair over. He then sat down and looked her right in the eyes. "Look, I made this decision too. We were both there when we made her." Only for a quick second did he look down at her stomach before returning his eyes to hers. "You didn't drag me into anything." It was true, when they decided to have sex it was a mutual decision. He remembered she was embarrassed and he dragged it out of her. In the end, they both agreed they were ready but apparently not ready enough to do it properly. "You're going to make it through this." When he made this statement his eyes grew only a tiny bit softer. He didn't want to expose his feelings too much but he wanted her to know that he really believed that she would.

For some reason, Bentley's words soothed her. It was becoming clear to Diane that she missed his presence and she mentally told herself not to give in easily because there was no way she had kept the barriers up for nine months to let it suddenly break down to him again. The three words that showed affection almost slipped out of her mouth and she began to say it, but she was jolted back to reality by the kick of the baby. She smiled weakly, trying to hold back anything more.

Throughout the course of the day, Dr. Harriot came to check on the baby and Diane. The eighteen year old was beyond stressed with the series of contractions coming at shorter times and more painful than the last. She could hardly bear it anymore and she felt awful that Bentley was sitting in a chair right beside her bed. By now, she had come to the conclusion that he was deaf from her screams of pain. "Sorry," she would say to him each and every time it was over. She tried not to say much though because, at this point of labor, she was exhausted from not being able to rest her eyes for a moment. "I am so tired," she muttered in a grumpy fashion.

The hospital took care of her. They made sure to feed her breakfast, lunch, and dinner; the only problem was that after each meal, Diane felt more nauseous and had to excuse herself to the bathroom and vomit. Getting out of her bed was difficult, but having to walk a couple of feet from her bed to the bathroom and back was treacherous. By now, she had cooled down and would ask Bentley to help her get out of and back into the bed. She opposed the idea of being helped, but she was sure that she could not be turning it down now. "Thanks," she would always say to him, trying to avoid eye contact at all costs. She knew he knew her well, but she could not find the courage to do it.

Hours passed, then it was time. A contraction began, but it refused to stop. Diane looked wide-eyed at Bentley and a new wave of panic overcame her. She was scared for her life and their baby. "Oh my god, Bentley. It is definitely time," she managed to say before she screamed in pain. She wanted to curl up into a ball, but that would have been impossible with all the wires attached to her and her stomach. When Bentley offered his hand to her, she looked down at it and then back at him straight in the eyes. She felt sorry for his hand because, once she grabbed it, the pain overcame her body and she squeezed it. "I am so sorry!" she exclaimed when she saw that he was trying to conceal the fact that it hurt.

Diane's face screamed pain all over. She began taking deep breathes and that was when her doctor finally walked in a bit startled by the scene. "Nurse, quick! Emergency!" Dr. Harriot shouted out into the hallway. Diane could barely hold on any longer, she was in too much pain. She could pass out if she allowed her body to, but she was trying not to despite her head spinning and her vision beginning to blur. "Diane, take long deep breathes. Sweetheart, take deep breathes."She was on the verge of panic and she tried slowing her quickened deep breathes into longer ones. "It hurts so much though!" she screamed back at her doctor in pure agony.

Time passed like a blur for Diane. Dr. Harriot and the nurse had urged Bentley into a gown to cover his clothes, but then they turned the attention back to Diane who was struggling. When Bentley came back and gave her his hand again, she felt as if she were squeezing the life out of it. "I can't hold it in any longer!" she yelled. That was when Dr. Harriot urged her to begin to push. The process was to push, take deep breathes, and continue pushing. If she kept this up any longer, she would pass out.

                                                                  "It's a baby girl!"

The sound of a baby cry brought such a relief to her ears and it was followed by the doctor asking Bentley to cut the umbilical cord. She could not be sure whether or not he did it, she could only lay astounded and exhausted that she made through it. Breathless, she looked from the baby to Bentley and smiled, "We did it, we really did it."

Once they cleaned the baby, the nurse handed her to Diane. Diane's hands shook, she could not believe that she actually created such a beautiful creature. She smiled, held her close, then looked up at Bentley with a warm expression. Before she could say anything, Dr. Harriot interrupted the moment by abruptly asking, "Have you two planned any names?"

At this question, Diane slowly looked in the direction of Dr. Harriot, down to her newborn daughter, and back up to Bentley. "Uh," she began but was quite unsure of how to finish.

At this point the two of them had been at the hospital for hours on end. He wasn't too sure that he could say the same about Aaron and Cherise since he refused to go out and talk to them. For all he knew, they decided to go back to the orphanage for a few hours to get some sleep. I mean, it had been a good solid fifteen hours at this point since they had arrived. Even Bentley himself dosed off a few times as he sat there in the chair. Honestly, he didn't care that much if they were on the other side or not and he wasn't willing to go check. He knew that if they were he would be bombarded with questions as soon as he walked out. Where are you going? Did she have the baby yet? How is she doing? He could easily answer them but why should he be so nice after the way they spoke to him. Now that he was on the inside and they weren't they wanted information that only he could give. Well, he wasn't willing for two reasons. The first being that he figured they didn't deserve it and they could suffer until the very end. This morning he hadn't talked to either of them the entire day and when they did the first thing they did was yell at him. Instead of getting his side of the story they automatically assumed that he was running from the situation. The second being that he was done with them for the day, maybe even the entire week itself. Yeah, they were probably worried about Diane and the baby but he wasn't willing to to talk. Actually, he wasn't willing to talk to anyone at all as of right now. Honestly, if it was up to him he would be by himself and quite possibly self medicating. When things got to heavy in his life he would go smoke a joint or cigarette to calm his nerves. At this point he could only assume that the only reason he hadn't craved doing so was because his adrenaline was still going. Instead, he just felt like he would have to get up and walk around ever so often. So he would excuse himself to go to the bathroom or roam the halls aimlessly. When he was in the delivery room he and Diane hardly talked at all. The only time they did was when she needed something or when she was apologizing for her shrill screams. In which he would always help her and reassure her by simply saying it was fine.

They were finally hitting the sixteenth hour when suddenly Diane jolted and her eyes grew wide once more. Bentley was sitting in the chair looking into open space when he noticed the wave of pain and panic come over her. Once she said it was time he sort of began panicking himself and absent mindlessly extended his hand to hers. It was something he would always use to do when they were in a relationship. Any time things got tough the other would lend there hand over for support. This time, he didn't even realize what he had done until he felt the pain shooting through it. Immediately he wanted to pull back but he knew that wasn't an option at the moment. Instead he bit the inside of his cheek and tried to keep his face composed as much as possible. Thankfully after a few moments in pain the doctor finally sent him away to go get changed into a gown. Any other time he would have swatted the stupid thing away but anything seemed better than where he was at right now. Bentley nodded and grabbed the fabric from the nurse. He then looked back down at Diane and slowly pulled his hand away from hers before moving himself. Calmly he backed up a few feet and slid the gown over everything that he was wearing. As he did so he heard Diane, from the bed, announcing that it hurt. He could hear her the tremble in her voice when she announced that it hurt. At that he looked over and then realized from where he was standing at right now he had a view of everything. The doctor stood in front of the bed, the nurse was on the side waiting for instructions, and Diane was laying there with her feet in the stirrups. Finally the doctor gave her the okay to push and that was when everything came crashing down on him. If it didn't feel real before than it definitely did now. Bentley wanted nothing more than to run but instead he took in a deep breathe and walked back over to where he was before. Slowly and cautiously he walked back over and took her hand once more. This time he was very aware that he did and even more so when she began squeezing it. He wasn't sure if it was because he had a quick break or if it was because she was now pushing the baby out but boy did it hurt a lot more this time.

Finally what felt like an hour, really it was only half that, did he hear crying erupt in the room. It was then announced that they had a little girl and not a little boy. This didn't bother him because he never put much time into caring if it was either one. At that point the doctor was offering him to the cut the umbilical cord and he mildly shook his head. It was usually the fathers job to do so but he just couldn't bring himself to take the scissors. For a moment the doctor looked at him with an odd expression but then looked away. Bentley's eyes shifted when he did it and then moved his eyes on to Diane when she spoke."Yeah, you did." He didn't do a single thing when it came to the birthing process. All he did was help her conceive it months earlier and then hold on to her hand for a small portion of the time moments ago. Once the statement left his lips the doctor was on his way over with the baby. This was the first time either of them were seeing her and this frightened him. He now had a real, living, breathing, thing, that he created in the world. At that he let go of Diane's hand just as the doctor got real close so it seemed so casual. It just looked like he was really doing it so she would have both arms to hold the baby but really he suddenly didn't want to touch her. It was all to weird for him right now and he was having a hard time comprehending the last hour and a half. So instead he just sat there and watched the nurses move about until the doctor spoke up once more in Diane's direction. He had asked what the babies name was going to be and before he could stop himself he blurted out, "Scout." As much as it seemed that he didn't care about the he actually took the time to pick out a few names. Little did everyone else know he was prepared with a name for either sex. If it was a girl then it would be Scout Isabella. If it was boy then it would be Parker Jett. When Dr. Harriott and Diane both looked at him he realized that he had actually said it out loud. It was already out and he didn't want to seem as scared as he felt and so he continued. "Scout Isabella." When he thought of that name months ago he was sure on the first name but had a hard time with the middle. He went over and over and over his options, and was about to give up, when he began thinking about Diane. For a moment he thought about how hard it would be for her to go through this with out her mom. Bentley obviously didn't know how families worked but he felt like the mom was always heavily involved and that's when it hit him. Her mom's name was Isabella and when he placed it into the name it just felt right. As for the last name, automatically, he assumed the last name would be his since that's how it usually went, right? The baby always received the father's surname and so he didn't even bother to state that.

Diane blinked dumbfounded at Bentley's reply, she had no idea he had prepared names because she certainly had not. Throughout the nine months, she had picked names to only toss them after a week since none of them caught on. Smiling cheerfully, she looked down at her baby and whispered, "Hi, baby Scout." Her eyes had quickly averted from the newborn baby up to Bentley when he added Isabella as her middle name. She blinked a couple of times as she was unsure how to react. Slowly, she looked over at Dr. Harriot as they took a mental note of this. "Such a beautiful name! Congratulations once again, I'll leave you two alone for now so I can get the rest of the paper work settled out."

Nodding, Diane stared down at the baby. She could not be any happier that it turned out to be a girl; when her and Bentley had gone to the check-up, the month they would finally know the sex of the baby, she had asked for it to remain a surprise. For this reason, she refused to start setting up the nursery that would be in the room next to hers. She had done shopping here and there online, but she made sure the items were gender neutral. Until the room was finished, Diane knew the baby would be sleeping in her room because, after all, she had the crib set up next to her bed.

Diane was about to offer Bentley the chance to hold their daughter for the first time, but he spoke first and mentioned that he would bring in Aaron and Cherise. She nodded at this because she could only question what they had been doing for a long sixteen hours. Of course, they probably had gone and went home after a couple of hours to rest up and check on the children back at the Orphanage since she did not remember Bentley having left her side. She assumed they were back now and bursting with unanswered questions. This thought made her let out a small chuckle and it was then interrupted by a knock at the door. "Come in," she said in reply.

"I'm sorry to interrupt, but you left off the last name of your daughter. Did you want her to take after Moreau or Hale?" the familiar voiced questioned. Diane paused and then realized that Bentley was not with her to come up with an answer. Immediately, without a second thought, she spoke proudly, "Moreau." Dr. Harriot nodded and made their way back out into the halls to continue paper work.

Diane believed that this was a reasonable decision because she did care for baby for nine months that she had been inside of her. She hoped it would not prove a problem for Bentley, but, in a way, she wanted to see how he would react to such a decision. Would he be offended? Would he get mad? Would he be able to give her a reason on why their daughter should take after his last name?

As questions raced through her mind, Diane decided to rest her eyes.

On the inside his body was screaming at him, "shut up. shut up. shut up!" He was far to exposed at the moment and he didn't like it in the slightest. As of right now he felt like after all these months he was letting his guard down a little to much. In reality all he did was give their daughter a name but if you thought about it, it mean't so much more! Due to the fact that he blurted it out like it was nothing mean't that he had picked out the name long ago. On top of that he gave her the middle name of Diane's mom so it showed that it was a heavy thought process. To everyone else it probably seemed sweet but to him he felt like to many emotions to handle right now. His thoughts were running him ragged as his eyes were trained on the floor. Beside him he heard Diane say the name out loud herself and acknowledging it. That must have mean't she agreed because knowing her she would have protested if she didn't like it. With her it always had to be the way she wanted and with something this important he knew she would fight until she got it. After that she turned her head and looked at him and immediately he turned his eyes too the doctors. Luckily, just as he did, the doctor began to speak. He too agreed with the name and congratulated them before he excused himself. At that point he figured that Diane would have her eyes on him again and so he decided he couldn't be caught looking at the floor again so he checked. Although, instead, her eyes were fully focused on their newborn. Just as he was going to look away he accidentally caught sight of her and now he couldn't look away. Immediately he felt a huge sense of emotion come over him and pile on to everything else he was feeling. Bentley honestly didn't know what to do but just sit there and stare. At the back of his throat it was tight and he felt sort of choked up even though his expression was blank. As he looked at Scout he took in every little feature she had. Of course she looked mostly like Diane but he could see a few small features of his right off the bat. The first thing he noticed was her soft blue eyes and rosie cheeks. The two most dominant features Bentley had on his face aside from his nose ring but that didn't count. The more he began to sort out her features the more he became overwhelmed and wanted to break away, but he just couldn't get himself to do it.

It went on like this for nearly a full minute until Diane must have noticed and looked over at him. He was caught and so he shifted his eyes up to hers. Almost immediately he could tell what she was going to say before she had even said it. Bentley noticed that her arms were extended a little compared to how closely she was holding Scout to her chest. Now, he couldn't be certain, but he felt like she was going to ask him to hold her. At this very moment he was not ready and knew he would run far, far, away if she did. He was still trying to process everything and so to refrain from her knowing that he spoke first. In doing so he had no time to make sure his voice would come out even but luckily when he did, it was. This was probably from all the years of practice. There was only a few people that had every caught him crying because he felt like crying was when he looked the most weak. "I should go get Cherise and Aaron." Calmly, he lifted himself from the chair and fully felt the entire weight of his body. After sitting down for so long it sort of felt weird but he ignored the numbness and continued. "They're probably impatiently waiting for some news." The word impatient wasn't exactly necessary when it came to Aaron because that boy could wait on something nearly all day. Mostly, he used the word because he could only imagine how Cherise was feeling. The girl was so nosie and so being the dark, not knowing a single thing, was probably killing her inside. Once she nodded he let himself out of the room with out taking a single look back. He walked down the brightly lit hallway that he knew all to well from constantly walking through it over the last sixteen hours. Bentley then made it to the end and pushed his way out of the double doors with no expression on his face what so ever. Before he could make it halfway across the waiting room he noticed Aaron was already staring at him. Just like he could read Diane like a book, Aaron could read him just the same. "Diane said it was okay for you guys to come in," as he closed the distance. The last thing he wanted to do was even talk to them and the only reason he did was to get out of a tight spot. So he kept it short and simple with out giving them any real information to work off of. The two immediately got up and all three walked of them walked through the double doors. As they walked down the hall he could feel his brother's eyes on him but he completely ignored it. Instead he followed the ring leader, Cherise, through the door to Diane's room.

Still got something left to prove. It tends to keep things movin' while everyone
around me says my last days are looming overhead. But what the hell do they think
they know? My head's above the water while they drown in the undertow. Let's leave
no words unspoken and save regrets for the broken.

Annoyed with Bentley, Cherise had walked in the complete opposite direction of him. She knew another way to the hospital and she would use that to her advantage. "He needs to grow up," she said to herself as she held her school textbooks close to her chest. It took longer to get there than the path that Bentley had taken, but she needed to cool off steam because she was likely to go off at him again.

When Cherise arrived at the hospital, she saw Aaron in the waiting room and plopped down in the chair beside him. "Hey Aaron, thanks for taking her here," she said casually with a smile; she felt that it was reasonable for her to thank Aaron because he was there to help her out since Diane was busy being pregnant and all. "I would have been here quicker, but Bentley and I have some differences going on. I took another path," she announced rather proudly because she had recently formed a habit of walking out alone during the day.

"Anyways, I'm glad she was safe under your wing!" Cherise meant it to be rather offensive to Bentley because she did not know what could have happened if he had been there instead of Aaron. The thought frightened her and she mumbled aloud, "Many things could have gone wrong."

Around lunch, Cherise received a phone call from an unknown caller. Curious, she answered, "Hello?" The voice on the other side of the call brought a flush to her cheeks once they spoke. "Hey, what happened to catching up at lunch today?" Questions ran through the teenager's mind as she could only wonder how he got her phone number because she was sure she had never given it to him. "Oh, I am so sorry Connor! My cousin went into labor and I had to leave right away," she frantically replied in embarrassment. "Don't worry about it, I completely understand. You have more important things," Connor replied on the other line with a laugh.

You are one of my important things, she thought and she had almost let this slip, but she quickly held onto it as she did not want to make things awkward between them. "I need to make it up to you! Anyways how did you get my phone number?" she asked because she was dying to know. "I got it from Tiffany, I wanted some sort of explanation to your disappearance but she didn't know either and thought I should give you a call." Oh, that did not surprise her because Tiffany was one of her friends who knew well that she had a huge crush on the boy. "So, are you free anytime soon? Not now of course, but later or something." This startled her and she paused a moment, almost hesitating on the offer. Before she knew it, she replied energetically, "I don't know when I'll be available, but hopefully it'll be soon? I'll try to get back to you later with an answer."

"Haha, that's fine. I should get going the b —" Connor was speaking and that was when Cherise heard the bell interrupt him in the background. "— ell is going to ring. And it just did. I'll talk to you later, I want to see you soon. By the way, tell your cousin I said congratulations. Bye!" Her cheeks flushed a shade darker at the fact he wanted to see her soon and she stuttered, "B-bye!" Click went the other end of the line and she continued to hold the phone to her ear. She looked over at Aaron and gave off that same startled expression she had earlier during the phone call. "I forgot you were there, it isn't what you think it is," she said, quickly pulling out a book to conceal the embarrassment her face exposed. Internally, she was screaming with excitement because, for now, that call fixed everything else she was worried about. She smiled widely as she looked down at the book, not processing any of the words that it held.

Some time during the day, Aaron had went back to the Orphanage and Cherise remained in the waiting room for any news of the baby. She had been waiting for many anxious hours and she had passed the time by daydreaming about Connor as she worked on schoolwork. Every now and then she became hungry, being she had skipped breakfast and forgot to pack a lunch, but she could no longer stand the fact that her stomach was growling at her. This caused her to get up to the vending machine to grab a granola bar and soda with the money she had on her. At one point, she even went to the receptionist's desk to ask for Diane's room number.

Eventually, Aaron came back and the two conversed. Not long after, Bentley finally came out to the waiting room, not giving them any more information than Diane being ready for them to come in. Boy, she was excited. Cherise got up faster than the speed of lightning, grabbing her belongings and leading the way with the two older males behind her.

Stopping at the room number the receptionist had told her earlier, Cherise lightly knocked on the door. "Come in," the voice on the other side replied. Walking inside, the teenager tried her hardest not to squeal in excitement. Putting her things on the floor, she walked over to the bed bright-eyed. "Oh my, she is the cutest little thing on this planet," she whispered. Her cousin looked tired, but the way she looked down at the newborn spoke of unconditional love.

"Is it a girl or boy? What's their name? Do you know when you'll be able to come home?" Cherise could not contain herself because she was too excited about the new addition to the family. It was only natural for her to bombard questions, she was the nosiest person in the entire household. "She's a girl and her name is Scout Isabella. I don't know, Dr. Harriot hasn't told me yet. There's a possibility that it could be tomorrow, but he may want to check up with me to see how I'm doing for the usual medical reasons."

The time had just rounded up to about an hour when he saw his little brother arriving at the hospital. He expected Cherise to be right behind him but the more time passed the more he began to think that they hadn't come together. This raised even more question's than he had before due to the fact that was what Bentley was suppose to be doing. Instead of arriving here immediatley he volunteered to pick Cherise up and if she wasn't with him then what the heck had he been doing!? Once Bentley was fully inside and nearing the desk Aaron got to his feet and walked over to him to confirm. "Bentley, where's Cherise at?" Immediatley when he got close to him he noticed the look on his face. The one he knew all to well and grew accustomed to over the last thirteen years of his life. His little brother's face was hard and he could see the anger settled into his eyes. Surely, there was a fire burning inside of him that he wanted so badly to be let out. So before Bentley could even respond to him he knew that he was going to get a mouthful or nothing at all. It just depended on if he had already let out or if he was actually going to bite his tongue. Over the last couple of months he noticed that he was getting a lot better about these sort of things but with Bentley you could never be too sure. This was a high stress situation and so honestly he was expecting to be chewed up and spit out. Luckily, it was the latter and he was simply shrugged off. Instead of going back to his seat Aaron stood there and watched him go the front desk. A small wave of relief came over him as he heard him ask for Diane's room number. What ever happened on the way over here at least wasn't going to affect him being there for the delivery. He watched him then walk down the hall and threw the double doors. It wasn't until then did he finally walk back to his seat and wait, ten minutes, when Cherise arrived. Aaron was just about to open his mouth and get her side of the story, if there even was one at all, when she had spoken up. "No problem." The girl then continued and the little interaction that he had with Bentley a few moments suddenly made sense. He had gone to pick up Cherise and he hadn't bitten his tongue with her. This sort of didn't surprise him because over the last year or so they had constantly argued with each other. Big or small, you name it and they argued over it. "I figured. Bentley arrived about ten minutes ago. He's down the hall with Diane now." The girl then continued and thanked him once more in which he smiled and nodded. He was always there for them, no matter what.

It had been about four hours since Diane arrived at the hospital and since then Aaron and Cherise continued to sit in the waiting room. Through out the time the two had talked for the majority of it but when they weren't it was quiet. He could never be sure as to what she was thinking about, but personally his mind was moving. All he could think about was Bentley and how he would now start acting when the baby was actually here. Could he actually set his problem's aside with Diane for the betterment of the new born? His mind sat on this, going back and forth at all the possibilities, up until a buzzing of a phone interrupted his train of thought. Slowly, his eyes turned to Cherise as he watched her pick it up an answer. Usually he would just ignore the conversation that followed but the girl's expression was too interesting to ignore. Immediately her cheeks began to flush and he could only imagine who was on the other end. Maybe it was her current boyfriend, but that didn't seem likely. He had left the orphanage over a year ago and since then the communication had been harshly lacking. So, really, he wasn't even sure they were even together any more. Apparently not because soon after she gave a name to boy which was definitely not the name of her now ex. Well, assuming that he was her ex since Cherise didn't seem like the type of person to cheat. At this point he was fairly interested due to the fact that she was like a little sister to him. Her boy business wasn't suppose to be his but as the older protective brother it was his job. Instead of continuing to stare at her he looked straight ahead, as if he wasn't listening, for the rest of their conversation. It wasn't until she hung up did he smile at her and slightly lift his eyebrows. "Oh, no. I'm sure it's not." Quickly she concealed her face and at that he smiled as he shook his head and got to his feet. "I should get back down to the orphanage and make sure things are being held down." Everyone that was suitable to be running the place was at the hospital currently. So he could only imagine how hectic things were back there. "I'll be back in a few hours." That was all it would take for him to check in, maybe grab a few things, and put all the kids to bed. At that he walked out the large automatic sliding glass door and down the street towards his destination.

When he arrived at the orphanage he expected total and complete chaos. The kids would be running around and things would be an absolute mess by now. Though, to his surprise, it was actually fairly quiet when he walked inside. Apparentley, someone had called Milo to come over and watch the kids while everyone else was at the hospital. A huge part of him felt relieved at this because that mean't the kids were never alone but a smaller part was a bit tense. Not to say that Milo had done anything to break anyone's trust! It was just that after everything that happened with Esteban he had become very cautious with guys, over the age of sixteen, being around here. Even more so when he didn't know them to well and Milo he had only met just around nine months ago. In any case, for the rest of the time he was there, he helped him out but hardly let him out of sight. After a few hours of this it grew dark and it was time to get all the children to bed. Once Aaron and Milo had gotten them all down the two of them grabbed their things and left for the night. With a quick thanks he headed back to the hospital and that was where he had been for the remainder of the time. Aaron sat there for the next five hours when suddenly he heard the double doors begin to open. It was really early in the morning so hardly anyone was going in and out as of right now. At this point any time he heard any door his eyes would calmly search for the source. Immediately his eyes moved up and he noticed Bentley before Bentley noticed him. To anyone else in the room the boy looked calm and collected but he knew there was something more too him. He couldn't exactly tell what that something was but he knew there was more going on in Bentley's head than he was willing to admit. Did something happen to the baby? Was Diane okay? Once he reached them and announced that it was okay to go in those question's were automatically ruled out. So as the three walked down the hall, Cherise then Bentley then him all in a line, he began to think of more reason's the boy was like this. It wasn't until he walked in and saw the way Bentley looked at the baby did he finally understand. The emotion running inside him the strongest as of right now was innocence. He hadn't seen that in his little brother for a long time because he had grown up so fast. Not in the adult sense but in the sense that he had taken a lot of paths that a lot of people his age wouldn't have even come to yet. The innocence was stemming from the fact that he was finally scared like a little kid once more. He could tell that all Bentley wanted to do was go run and hide but that wasn't a possibility now that the baby was here. It all made sense now, the boy was scared of becoming an adult and holding onto this very feeling for dear life.

"Come in," she naturally answered. The knock on the door did not bother her, it merely became a daily habit. Usually her slumber was interrupted by the children when they had a nightmare, or they simply found comfort with her presence; this usually caused her to allow them to slip into bed with her. Another reason to wake her up was if it was an important matter or, in Cherise's case, to ask whether or not she could have the day off.

Settling her eyes, not toward the entrance of the door, Diane continued to look down at her daughter. She smiled softly down at Scout, she could not wait to take her home. Now looking up, she was greeted by three familiar faces: Cherise, Bentley, and Aaron. The face that stood out most to her was Cherise, who was bursting with energy. Not long after they had come in, Diane was bombarded with Cherise's questions, "Is it a girl or boy? What's their name? Do you know when you'll be able to come home?" She paused a moment, taking in the questions so she would be able to reply with ease, she answered, "She's a girl and her name is Scout Isabella. I don't know, Dr. Harriot hasn't told me yet. There's a possibility that it could be tomorrow, but he may want to check up with me to see how I'm doing for the usual medical reasons."

"Scout Isabella is such a cute name! She's too adorable, I can't wait until she goes home with us!" Diane looked at her cousin and smiled before she held her forefinger to her lips, telling her, "Turn down the energy a bit, I'm exhausted." Her cousin quickly apologized in a whisper and Diane softly laughed.

Laying in bed a little longer, she then asked, "Hey, does anybody hold her for a second?" Distracted by the knock at the door, Diane placed her eyes there. She was not sure who she handed Scout to, but she did tell them to be careful; they had not left the hospital yet and she was already cautious about her newborn around people.

"Uh, come in," Diane replied. "Diane, it's Dr. Harriot. We should start discussing when you'll be able to go home because I filled out all the paperwork," the voice replied. As the figure walked in, Diane nodded in agreement and then realized, being that the doctor may have not seen her, she said, "Yes! So about that, when will I go home?" He smiled at her and answered her question, "Well, you should be able to go home tomorrow morning. I'll just make sure to do a little check-up before you leave. Got to make sure the mother is healthy too, right?" She nodded sheepishly, unsure how that would turn out. "That's alright with me. You hear that Cherise, I get to go home tomorrow."

As soon as he got inside of the room he held back from going much closer to the bed where Diane was lying. Instead he stood a few feet from the door because he wanted nothing more than to be alone. Now that the baby was born it wast the perfect opportunity to do so because everyone would be focused on her and not him. Everyone would leave him be at least for a little while up until he did something wrong again. That's how it always worked, right? Well, this time around things didn't go as planned because out of the corner of his eye he noticed Aaron was standing right beside him. All he could think was why was he here and not over there. Regardless of what the answer might have been he was thoroughly annoyed with his brother at this point. Ever since he walked out to get them he had been staring at him and up until now he still hadn't stopped. Why was he doing it and when was he going to stop. One of the bigger things that Bentley hated was being the center of attention. He had never been and he liked it that way but right now Aaron was making that really hard. As much as he wanted to tell him to back off he bit his tongue and kept quiet over the entire thing. So instead he turned his attention over to Cherise and realized that she was asking her a million questions. Due to the fact that she had been kept in the dark for so long she was literally bursting from so much excitement. Part of him was satisfied that he had gotten her to wait so long that she was now acting like mess. Though, the other part of him was annoyed that he now had to stand her through the jist of it. With Aaron standing right beside him there was no way that he could just walk out like nothing. For the next ten minutes, at least, he was stuck right where he was at the moment. So he took in a deep breathe and tried to calmly listen to the conversation unfold. Just as he did he heard Cherise mention that Scout Isabella was a cute name and so he was now three for three. The fact that she liked it didn't make him happy. Honestly, he didn't really care about the acceptance he was getting on it. He never needed acceptance on anything else in his life so his daughter's name was just another thing on that list. The thing that had him internally smiling was the fact that Diane responded to her statement by basically telling her to shut up.

For a moment it was completely quiet in the room as if everyone was taking things in. They all just stayed as the were up until Diane had cut it. She spoke up and asked if any of the three of them wanted to hold Scout for the first time. Almost instantly Bentley's felt as uncomfortable as he did when the baby had first arrived. He couldn't hold her, he just couldn't do it. At that moment Aaron's eyes fell on him and it was apparent that he was expecting him to speak up. Suddenly both of their eye's turned when they both heard Cherise speak up and claim the spot. Never in his life had he been so thankful for her voice and even presence. Aaron was just about to say something when they all heard a knock at the door. He was happy for the interruption but it didn't last long very long. As soon as the Dr. Harriott walked in and greeted them Aaron moved in front of him and began. "Bentley, I know you're scared..." At this statement he was fairly offended by it even though it was true. He hated being called a coward which was the reason why he was so impulsive all the time. If he was then it didn't give him the time to think over the situation and get scared. Although, when it came to a baby it didn't exactly work that way. He had nine months to work that fear up and get over it but he never fully did. Now that it was real, he was the most scared he had ever been in his entire life. Before he could finish his statement Bentley interrupted, "No, I'm not. If I was scared I would have left long ago." You didn't think he would just openly admit his fears, did you? Even if Aaron was his brother it wasn't going to happen. Not so easily anyway. "Just because you stuck around for the delivery doesn't mean you you're not afraid. It just mean's that you're taking responsibility." That was extremely true but that's not what he could believe in. Bentley was happy with his train of thought and it was partly keeping him sane at the moment. "Aaron, I'm not scared. So back off!" The boy didn't yell the last part because the two were in whispers but he did say it with enough force to get his point across. Although, no matter what, Aaron wasn't taking it. If there was anyone in the entire would that would tell him like it was, with no strings attatched, it was his older brother. "Stop fooling yourself. You need to realize these fears and overcome them. You're innocence is gone. It's time to stop hiding and start acting like an adult." Almost immediately Bentley's face went from being upset to the same burning in his eyes that he had when he first arrived at the hospital. It was apparent that he was ready to blow up and let it all out but what he did next surprised him. "News flash, Aaron. I grew up a month after we arrived at the orphanage. The little boy that you think I am stopped hiding a long time ago." As soon as the statement left his mouth he walked around Aaron and walked right out the door. When he arrived at the orphanage at the age of five he didn't really understand what they were doing there. Basically, he knew that his dad treated him badly and said that he didn't want him. Although, he had said that before and nothing major happened. Honestly, he thought it was temporary at first and his parents would soon pick them up. Though, after a month, he came to the conclusion that wasn't the case. It wasn't just a small vacation, his parents didn't want them. It was that realization that broke him and molded him into the person he was now.

Diane awoke the next morning to a knock at the door. "Seriously ..." she mumbled before letting whoever it was at the door that they were allowed to enter. She slept as soon as everyone had left yesterday and it felt great that she was able to get some sleep with the occasional disturbance of having to take her medicine. Of course, being distracted with Cherise's questions yesterday, she had not noticed that Bentley left and knew it would be unlikely that he would pick her up today.

"Good morning Diane! I hope I didn't disturb you!" The boisterous voice of Dr. Harriot shook Diane out of her daze. "Of course not!" she replied with a fake smile. Why couldn't he have waited another couple of hours, she thought, internally dreading what would come next. "Are you ready for your check-up?" The eighteen year old nodded quietly, her eyes speaking of fear. "There is nothing to worry about, you ended up fine. Did you not?" She then started to speak, "I - it's not that ..." As she processed what she wanted to say, Dr. Harriot asked the question she was tying to answer, "Then what is it?"

"I never told anyone about what could have happened," Diane said, speaking so softly that Dr. Harriot had to ask her to repeat what she said. "Don't talk like that. Your mother would never hear any of it." Ashamed, she hung her head down and fiddled with her fingers. "You're alive now, alright? You'll be okay." With that, Dr, Harriot sat at the edge of the bed and lightly pat her leg. "You're brave. Hey, look on the bright side, you'll make a wonderful mother. Okay, onto your check-up so you can go home."

The check-up took about half an hour and Diane learned that she was going to have to begin making usual appointments with Dr. Harriot to be sure that her health would be fine. Along with this new information, she was going to have to begin taking her usual dosages of medicine. She was dreading all of it, but it was all for her health and her daughter.

As Dr. Harriot walked out, Diane heard him say in surprise, "Oh, Cherise! How long have you been standing there?" This made the female nervous because she could not be sure how long her cousin had been out there listening to the entire conversation she had with Dr. Harriot. Her thoughts were suddenly disrupted when she heard the teenager's voice, "I'm here to pick you up!" She slightly twitched at this, she was not prepared for any conversation they were going to have heading back home. Hopefully, the focus would be on the newborn and not herself or Bentley.

Cherise knew where her things were stashed and Diane was glad because she did not have her phone on her to call her and remind her. "Thanks for bringing it all here, I hope it wasn't a hassle," she said. "It's no problem," Cherise replied. Diane then excused herself to the bathroom and she took the bag with her. She brushed her teeth, combed her hair, and changed into something simple and comfortable for the walk back home. She had not cared for the clothes she had worn near the end of the pregnancy because it did not matter to her, she rarely left the house. Even now, she simply shrugged at the looks she would get from people she would pass by. She didn't care, she was comfortable in her sweats, t-shirt, and sneakers.

Walking out, Diane saw that the nurse had brought in the baby and she was relieved by that. Although she had walked through the hospital tons of times and knew it by heart, it saved her the work. "Thank you," she said, gently taking Scout from the nurse's arms. After the nurse had walked out, Diane instructed Cherise to pull out the onesie she had prepared. She chuckled softly as she dressed up the baby for the first time. Once this was done, she lifted the hood of the stroller and placed Scout inside, tucking her in for the journey back home. "And that's it, come on," she said, starting to push the stroller out the door since Cherise offered to carry the bag.

When he had left the room he didn't exactly have a plan as to where he was exactly going. All he knew was that he needed to get out of the hospital and now. So instead of worrying about the destination he simply let his feet carry him were ever they pleased. At first he assumed he would stop when he got out the front doors and then he would take in a deep breathe to relax his body before going back inside. Although, when he did make it that far, he just kept going and going. As he walked the street's it was pitch black dark with only the street lights to keep it mildly lit. It was just around two a.m. at this point which mean't for the most part he was alone. Everyone else was snuggled into bed and off to sleep by now while he was out here wandering aimlessly. On this journey he began to think about what Aaron had said back there and how much truth really sat behind it. Yes, Bentley was scared and yes he did want to go run and hide but the point was he didn't. He hadn't for a vert, very, long time now. Going back to that day he realized his parents didn't want him opened his eyes up to to the idea that his childhood no longer exsisted. When you look up the word childhood in the dictionary it says it's the early stage in the existence or development of something. With out his parent's he didn't have anyone to help him develop into the a proper kid, teenager, and now adult. That mean't, now that he was no longer a child, there was also no more hiding. It wasn't like when he was five where he could just go run away from his father when he began beating him. He had to face his problem's head on at the orphanage. That was why he was the way he is today. Have you ever noticed that Bentley always faced him problems head on no matter what? Maybe not in the very best manner but head on none the less. The more he thought about all of these things, as he walked down the pathways, the more emotions came over him. At this point he was exhausted from the lack of sleep that he had gotten while he was at the hospital. Every time he would be close to getting some sleep Diane would accidentally wake him up because she was having another contraction. He also felt extremely upset due to the fact that he now had to relive the feeling he had when he came to that realization all those years ago. It was little like reopening a wound that healed long ago. Last but not least, the thing he felt most, was anger settled deep inside of his stomach. Everyone, no matter what, was always against him!

Last night, after wondering the street's for a few more hours, he had found himself at an empty park. He had walked along the paths up until he found a bench so he could take a seat. "Damn it." Bentley honestly couldn't deal with all of the raging thoughts that were swimming in his head and so he pulled out a joint. It was the only thing he could think of doing to make his mind go partially silent and wash away the pain. So he lit it, brought it too his lips, and spent the rest of his time their smoking. Once he was through he wanted nothing more than to get into his own bed and pass out for a few hours alone. At around four in the morning he had finally made it back and was on the porch walking inside. From here he planned on going straight up to his room but on his way up their he passed by the nursery and stopped. For some odd reason he felt so entirely compelled to go in and due to the fact that he was higher than a kite he did with no hesitation. Slowly he let his glossy eyes wander the room but refrained from touching anything. His hands were tainted from the marijuana he had smoked earlier and the last thing he wanted to do was get it on anything in here. When he came to this conclusion he slid down the wall and took a seat. Now that he had Scout in his life things were going to have to change but he really didn't know if he could do it. He wanted too, but the question was did he have the will power? As soon as the thought crossed his head a single tear rolled down his cheek. [********] Quickly he leaned his head against the wall behind and wiped his face with his shoulder. After that he closed his eyes and immediately fell asleep without the slightest problem. Now it was the next morning and as he opened his eyes up groggily he was instantly confused. His eyes searched the room for a minor second before he had remembered the events of last night. Calmly, he got to his feet and pulled out his phone to see if he had any message's and to his surprise there was none. Honestly, he expected there to be one from both Aaron and Cherise. Aaron because he probably went to go look for him when he realized that he wasn't coming back. He would be worried as too where Bentley had gotten himself or what he was doing to blow off steam. Cherise, on the other hand, wouldn't be worried but instead playing the accusation game. Automatically he could hear her, in his head, complaing about how he was such a horrible person for not helping Diane back home. As he slid phone back into his pocket he rolled his eyes at even the thought. Bentley then decided it was time to get ready for the day but just as he was about to leave he took one last look at the babies room. Obviously, when you're high you don't black out but now that he was sober he felt like he was just really seeing it for the first time. Slowly he did a three sixty and looked at all of the little things that had managed to get put up. He was feeling weird again and the last thing he needed to do was get worked up so he felt that it was time to let himself out. When he stepped through the doorway he composed himself and went straight to the bathroom to take a shower.

Cherise's eyes sparkled at the offer to hold Scout. She held out her grabby hands, not being able to contain her excitement; she did not bother to check to see whether Aaron or Bentley wanted to hold her. She had never been happier to have another female added to their growing family. They were from the same blood-line after all. This excited her for some odd reason because she now had this need to grow close to Scout while she could; the odd reason that compelled her would be that Bentley might keep her away because he was afraid of her influence on his daughter. She was likely to be a very bad influence. "Hiya, you're pretty cute. I wouldn't mind having you around the house," she whispered as she cradled the newborn in her arms.

Entertained by Scout and determining who she looked like more, Cherise noticed Dr. Harriot enter at the corner of her eyes to talk to Diane. She remained quiet and minded her own business and only looked up when she heard her name. "That's alright with me. You hear that Cherise, I get to go home tomorrow." Nodding slowly as if any grand movement would disrupt the newborn, she carefully handed Scout back to Diane, who watched closely like a hawk. Was her cousin suspicious of her future influence on Scout too?

Cherise was confused when Bentley suddenly disappeared, which left Aaron and herself as the remaining visitors in the room. They stayed for quite some time before they believed that it was time for them to take their leave and have Diane receive the rest she deserved after such a long day. "I'll come by with the things tomorrow, they're just in your room, right?" Diane nodded in reply and Cherise smiled softly. "Get some rest, you deserve it."

The next morning, Cherise overslept. She quickly changed into clothes that were laying around on her floor, not quite minding whether or not they were mismatched. Glancing at the time before she left her room, she muttered, "Oh ********, I hope she isn't waiting for me." Jogging to Diane's room, she looked the room once over for the stroller, which was against the wall, and the bag that her cousin had prepared ahead of time, which sat on the floor by the door. "Okay, okay. I got this, I can get there in no time." She squinted at the alarm clock that sat on top of the bedside table beside Diane's bed. "She'll be so pissed if I make her wait," she mumbled, undoing the stroller as she walked out of the room and down the Orphanage's second-floor hall.

Before she left, Cherise made sure to let Aaron know that she was leaving. She was out the door in no time, starting to sprint her way to the hospital. She strolled down the hallways, but she stopped immediately when she heard another voice in Diane's room. "You're alive now, alright? You'll be okay." She blinked a couple of times and tried to piece together what that meant. Her curiosity was eating at her, she was too busy thinking about what it all meant to hear what followed after. "What the ******** is that supposed to mean?" The more she thought about it, the more it annoyed her. Did it mean that her cousin had the possibility of dying while in labor? That didn't piss her off, but rather the idea of how it would affect everyone at the Orphanage. It meant her and Aaron would be the ones in charge for everything and being forced to pick up the pieces that Diane left.

Cherise's thoughts were interrupted when Dr. Harriot walked out of the room. She was startled, but the doctor did not seem to notice. "She's all yours," she said with a smile. Nodding, she weakly returned the smile. Entering, she was greeted by her cousin, "Oh, Cherise! How long have you been standing there?" Diane looked distraught by her presence so she decided to lighten the mood a bit. "I'm here to pick you up!"

"Thanks for bringing it all here, I hope it wasn't a hassle," Diane said as Cherise handed her the bag that held her cousin's necessities for the walk back home. "It's no problem." Diane excused herself to the bathroom and, as that happened, the nurse entered with Scout. She made small talk with the nurse, excited about the newborn, and then Diane came out of the bathroom to take back her daughter. The nurse left soon after and that was when Diane began to dress her newborn. "And that's it, come on," Diane said and Cherise nodded as she took the bag.

"By the way, you look like s**t. Did you oversleep?" Diane asked when they walked out of the hospital. "I could say the same about yourself. And I have no idea what you're talking about," Cherise replied with sass. The two joked around for some time until Diane mentioned that she needed to pick up her medicine. "That is alright with you, is it?" The sixteen year old blinked as she was reminded of what Dr. Harriot had said earlier when she was eavesdropping and she quickly replied, "That's fine with me." She would bring up the matter after they picked up the medicine because she did not want to cause a scene in a drugstore.

After Diane did her business, Cherise brought up the courage to come out with it. "When did you plan to tell us that you could have died?" From what she observed, Diane was growing tense and stiff; she immediately walked off without saying a word and Cherise ran up to her and grabbed her by the wrist to stop. "When were you going to ******** tell us?" she asked again, but more aggressively. "[******** off, you're acting like Bentley," Diane hissed back. She was surprised when her cousin grabbed her wrist back. "Speaking of the b*****d, did Bentley even know?"

"No, ******** off. I told him when we were in the hospital." Both girls were fuming at this point, it would be an ugly sight as soon as they stepped upon the Orphanage property. "Well, it would have been nice to know ahead of time!" she yelled, seeing that Diane was some distance away from her. It was then that Diane stopped in her tracks, not looking up but rather waiting for Cherise to catch up. When she was right next to her cousin, Diane spoke up, "I didn't want you guys on my goddamn a** all the time. All my life, everyone has been on my a**. I need my ******** space too!"

Cherise was scared. She had never made her cousin so pissed. "Sorry, it would have been nice to know ahead of time," she mumbled to herself. She was going to push more later when Scout was not around because Cherise did not want to create too much of a ruckus.

After a quiet walk the rest of the way back, the three of them entered the Orphanage with excited children surrounding them from all sides.

                                                                            iiiCupcake Monster

As soon as the statement about being grown up left his mouth he could see the fire in Bentley's eyes erupt. It was almost as if he was the volcano himself and the tension coursing through his body was the lava seeping out. At this point he figured his little brother was going to scream and shout as if he was a five year, since that how he usually handled things, but instead he decided to take a different route. Instead Bentley claimed that he had been grown since only a month after they arrived at the orphanage, before he stormed out of the room. To anyone it seemed like such a fluid and normal conversation due to the fact that they were in whispers but if you could only hear the bite in his voice. Already, Aaron knew that behind that bite there was pain and instantly his mind sent him back all those years ago to when they first arrived. Bentley was such a bright and happy kid, especially since he no longer had the burden of their dad on his shoulder, and you could tell that all he was ever looking for was acceptance. That was only at first because soon days turned into weeks and those weeks transformed in to a month and suddenly all of that was gone. His little brother grew to be hot tempered and distant and you could tell that he had turned his back on the world. Honestly, Aaron never knew what happened in that one month because he never asked. He was so young and so he wasn't exactly sure what to do, all he knew was that it wasn't a good thing. So instead of talking about it, he continuously tried to get him to revert back by doing the little things that Bentley loved but none of it worked. There were only small moments left where you could see that young boy in him any more. It was a rare thing to see but when you were lucky enough to catch a glimpse it was absolutely brilliant. Now that he actually was thinking about it all these years later he realized that a lot of those moments were when he was around Diane. Due to this realization Aaron sort of snapped out of his daze and looked over at her in the hospital bed. He couldn't believe how horribly she treated his brother and vice versa, all because they cared about each other. A small sigh escaped from his lips before he turned his head at the door behind him. For a short moment he thought about going after Bentley but then decided against it. It was starting to get late and he knew that they would have to leave soon. He wouldn't dare let Cherise walk alone by herself at this time at night, not after what happened to Diane that one time. All he could hope was that Bentley didn't get himself into too much trouble tonight and just simply not get arrested. Finally he walked across the room and joined the two in conversation.

Later that night, once they were back at the orphanage, he decided that he would just stay the night for several obvious reasons. If he decided to leave now it'd still be another hour and a half or so before he was back in his own bed. It wasn't like he had a bed here anymore due to the fact that they already assigned someone his room but the couch seemed more appealing than the walk back. The next was that Diane was coming home with the baby tomorrow and the kids would be excitable due to their newest member. He knew that Cherise was going to need all the help she could get with settling them all down. Now, last and most important, he wanted to make sure Bentley came home. As soon as he and Cherise walked in he left her to go up stairs and to his little brother's room where he found an unmade empty bed. So calmly he walked through the halls and made sure everyone was asleep before going back down to the first level. As he made his way there he passed Cherise on the staircase, "Goodnight, Cherise." The young blonde male smiled at her and continued on his way. Quickly he checked to make sure everything was locked before he retreated into the living room and drifted off to sleep. Even though he wasn't the one that had a baby today he was still extremely tired. He was all over the place today with going to the orphanage, rushing Diane to the hospital, going back to check on the kids, back to the hospital, and then finally back to the orphanage for the final time of the night. On top of all that he had worry about Bentley emotionally and Diane physically. In no way was he upset about this, in a way he felt obligated due to the fact that these people were like his family, it was just very tiring.

Very few hours slipped by when he was suddenly awoken by little kids cheering and screaming in excitement. Quickly Aaron's eyes slipped open as he sat up in order to figure out what was going on. As he got to his feet he ran his hands through his hair, releasing some of the product that he had put in it yesterday, and walked over to where the commotion was coming from. A smile formed on his face as he saw all the little children in awe over Scout. Aaron then walked through the small crowd and over to Diane's side. "Let me see my niece. This was the first time he had actually used the word niece and it felt nice. Weird, since he didn't expect to have a niece for several more years, but still nice none the less. "I didn't get much of a chance yesterday." He looked over at Cherise playfully before gently grabbing the baby from Diane's arms. His eyes immediately looked down into her blue one's that exactly looked like her dad's. She looked so precious but he willed himself to look over at Diane for a quick second longer. "You should go upstairs and take a minute to yourself." He said it quietly and just loud enough for her to hear so all the kids wouldn't follow her. The only person that may have overheard was Cherise but that was because she was standing extremely nearby and man those ears head everything. "I've got her, go ahead."' He nodded his head reassuringly because it wasn't like this was his first kid that he took care of. Not only did he take care of Bentley as in infant at the Hale house but he's taken care of a lot of the babies here as well. Of course Diane knew that but he could only imagine how hard it'd be for her to let go of Scout even if it was for a short period of time.
