The belief that a cosmic Jewish zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him that you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a "ribwoman" was convinced by a talking snake to eat fruit from a magical tree....

Right, perfect sense.

No religion makes sense. Hell, science doesn't always make sense either. Besides, the Bible was never meant to be taken literally word for word. If it was, we'd have a whole lot of one-eyed people missing hands in the world due to that whole passage where Jesus says, "If the hand sins, cut it off and if the eye sins, pluck it out."

I perfer Science to "God", atleast I can use my senses on one of those.
It just seems more logical to worship the sun. (Ancient Greeks For The Win!)
We can see it, and without it no life would be possible.

Exodus 21:15 (supposedly spoken by God to Moses)
And he that smiteth his father, or his mother, shall be surely put to death.

Smiting of course can be a double meaning of talking back, rebelling, or hitting. Besides it's simply a reflection of a culture thousands of years ago that is no longer in effect. In Deuteronomy 'God' says that receiving a tattoo is a sin, or eating shell fish, or cutting your hair.

That really means if you don't do right by them you won't live long. Yes tattoos r sin (like I would even have em on gaia if their wasn't for the stupid bugs). Everything stated in the bible doesn't mean it literally like 1Peter 5:8 says the devil is like a liar seeking for someone to devour a lot of people think that is meant literally but it isn't it just means the devil wants to catch you in sin.

How are tattoos sin? They have existed long before christianity even began to be in existance. They are even honorable in many civilizations.

you aren't supposed to mark your body

That can be taken in numerous ways. Anything from ear peircings to makeup.

God never said you couldn't have ear piercings or make up but say if a Christian got a tattoo of a demonic symbol tattoo that wouldn't be right you are supposed to honor your temple.(Someone I knew is a Christian but wants a tattoo on her lower lower back say if she bends over and someone sees it it's like you only put it there for men to see it (or just to see your butt)

I believe in God, just not the Christian God.

I grew up Baptist so every word of the bible is taken literally in the Baptist demonstration but the fact of the matter is that the bible contradicts itself way too much. God says that people must not kill, but in 'his word' he talks about punishments for stoning children who talk back to their father.

People take the bible far too literally and don't consider that it was written by fallible men in a completely different culture than we have now.

God's not literally telling you to stone your children it's a deeper meaning than that but I literally can't tell you deep things because although I am deep in the word God didn't call me out to be a pastor(I do,do Christian rap though)and I haven't studied you have to be deep in the word to be able to say the true meaning of some things.(Even pastors don't know everything the bible says but that doesn't mean that their not supposed to be a pastor even though some are not called out by God to be pastors.)

Okay so somethings aren't meant to be taken literally in the bible. What do you think of the story of Jonah and the whale? Do you think that's literal? Or that Jesus is literally the son of God?

Jesus is the son of God.God made Jesus into Mary's stomach and her husband thought she was just sleeping around until her husband got a vision from God to tell him that he performed a miracle on Mary so he would understand.Yes he did understand.

Well aren't we all children of God? So isn't every man a 'son of God'? Look the bible can either be a piece of fiction, made to be a moral guide for people or a literal word for word text. Perhaps the birth of Jesus wasn't supposed to be a literal impregnation by God. Maybe it was just an explanation that Mary's child (no matter who the earthly father was) was supposed to be a prophet.

Let me just come out and say it.
I'm near tears for the people here who are so openly bashing their Father. I'm even more in tears for the Christians who are doing nothing to try and save these people. I LOVE God. My life before God was horrible, now I have reason to wake up every morning. I'm tired of seeing atheists and non-believers question MY beliefs. So here's one for you.

WHY don't YOU believe in God?

and

What will YOU do when judgment day comes and YOU are the wrong ones?

Well... That day will never come because.
its fake.

And... your the one bitching.
Stfu.

Im atheist because I think.
Oh and about the tattoo thing, is a tattoo of a cross a sin?

"marking" your body can mean many things. And I have seen people put tattoos on their skin for honorable reasons.
I don't believe in God because it's always seemed a bit too far-fetched for me. Well, the Catholic one.

That confuses the whole virgin thing.

she was a virgin if God can perform miraculous miracles and create the world why could he do that he gave Abraham a child at the age of 100 and Sarah was 90

He is not my father, I sin because it builds my self-esteem. End of story!

Plus.. Ew. you belive in judgement day...

Lyke wdf thats all Bullshit. anywhoo if I'm "a sinner" and i get judged. Who cares.

Everyone gets judged by different ways it's not lie it'll matter any more.
If he created Adam and Eve on the as the first people on Earth in the first week of Earth's existence, how do you explain all these dinosaur bones? Someone wrote the bible a looooooong time ago just to make some money and people bought it.

Because that could be fabricated too. It could all just be a simple story.

I'm kind of up in the air right now. While, I was raised Roman Catholic, I don't consider myself as such. I do believe that there is a higher being, but not necessarily the God of Christianity or any specified higher being of any religion.

And in concerns with the people of this topic: It bugs the hell out of me when I see arguments are construed with "Internet rage." Honestly, people, it's the Internet. Insulting the Christian God doesn't make you sound smart, it makes you sound like a close-minded idiot. (Yes, you ARE being close-minded, shock of all shocks.) The same goes to the Bible-thumpers who say stuff along the lines of, "If you disagree with me, you're going to hell, heathens!" Again, you look like a close-minded moron. If you're going to argue your point, do it with logic, people, don't sit there and lower all your arguments to "ad hominem" (meaning hurling personal insults and such for no reason other than you're frustrated that the other person doesn't agree with you).

Okay, I'm off my soap box, let the flaming begin.

I feel the same way. I have a very open mind, and in the past I have looked in to all sorts of religions. Including wiccan, Satanism, Jehovah, Mormon, Buhdism, Toaism and such. Still, they all have their down falls. So, like I said before, I don't know what to beleive.

See, I don't doubt the existance of a higher being, because until either science proves without any form of reasonable doubt that everything was created in one way or another without any help from a higher being, I'm going to believe in a higher being. I don't think that makes me a sheep who follows blindly. I've looked into other religions and I've asked my friends, who are very religiously diverse, about their faiths, and I've decided that I'm going to make my religion very personal and simply trust that there's someone or something there.
I like meeting someone who shares the same mindset in concerns with this particular topic as me and isn't extreme one way or the other. biggrin

Ya, I have one friend who is really religious, one who doesn't care. One of my friends are just weird. One week she was obsessed with Jesus and the other week she was obsessed with worshipping me. confused . But ya, I think I would do the same thing (personal religion wise).

A week to god is not nessicarily seven days to us. Whos to say that dinos weren't some of the first animals he created?
