Do you guys EVER shut up? we've had countless debates about religion that have evolved from such threads as this, but you guys manage to keep going. Honestly, I've never heard ONE Jew, ONE satanist, ONE Muslim make threads about what they believe in the ED, not ONE; okay, fine I'm exaggerating, but, my point: they rarely do, and when they do, they don't say, "I don't care about your opinion", and are a little more light-hearted. I know I'm generalizing, I've seen a few good Christians out there, but geez.....

Never been to the M and R have we?

That why you're on a damn debate forum?

Quote:
He gave us His Son that we might be clean of the unrighteous sin we`ve beheld in our lives. And God had to suffer as well as His Son for there,on the cross He had to watch while His Son was beaten and cursed at when all His Son wanted was for us to have a choice.
Now heres what really hit me. I`d be going to hell and burn into an everlasting fire. And I`d deserve it.But His Son Died!! How would you feel if you knew someone who had to give up there child for unworthy, dirty people who wont even bother with him.

Sounds good, except that as a being of unlimited power, God could simply restore him any time he wanted anyway or make a new one; there is no such thing as loss to an omnipotent being, dear.
I have alot of new beliefs as to why I do not believe in God here are some of them.

1. Why believe in something we do not have physical proof that exists?

2. Why should we believe in a God if they make us burn in everlasting just because we don't agree they exist not because we are not good people.

3. Halloween(or should I say Samhain), Christmas (or should I say Yule) and Easter (or should I say the Ressurection of *Attis* ,see multiple resources on him for more info) were all taken from old pagan celebrations so why should I celebrate a religion that tried to convert all others to them and burned and stole the Pantheon? (The Pantheon was thought to be a place of worship for Pagans until the Christians came).

4.Why believe in something that contradicts itself in its books ALOT.

I am a Christian..and most people here dont believe in the Almighty God.Do you want to know why I believe in Him? Well..personally I dont care what you think but here goes..
He created the ground we walk on today and He gave all of us choices. His Son died for us and is now and always has given us a choice: to believe on His Son or to join the devil and stay within our sins. The reason why God rebukes us is because of sin. It is a disgusting thing when you choose not to take within what God has done for you.He gave us His Son that we might be clean of the unrighteous sin we`ve beheld in our lives. And God had to suffer as well as His Son for there,on the cross He had to watch while His Son was beaten and cursed at when all His Son wanted was for us to have a choice.

What part of that was why you are a Christian?

If you want to evangelize......don't.....you're bad at it.

Fatcat

Why are you still bothering to discuss this? The OP has already left, there was no basis for discussion in the first place, and bringing up personal beliefs means close to nothing here.

Oh and by the way. The bible says "In Adam's fall we sinned all" and this Original Sin. In Christianity, you are screwed from the begining. I'd like a chance at a happier after-life, or reincarnation, or whatever.

Prove that humans are not screwed. The fall of Adam represents the capacity and tendency of Man to take himself away from God's will, which is, if you are of the faith, your ultimate happiness and goal in life. Humans are then of course quite flawed, as humans constantly dont do that which makes them happy.

I was brought up Christian but am currently agnostic. And theres one fatal flaw with your statement.

WHO SAYS WE DON'T RESPECT THE EARTH? The stuff around us is amazing, beautiful, but if there is no evidence of the maker of the beauty it could be said he (if he exist) doesn't want tribute, just your appreciation of it.

The problem i have with the whole religion thing is its damning nature. Your religion is right and thus everyone else is going to hell. Now maybe this would be believable if you where a majority thing, but this isn't the case. Hell, Christianity even damns Judaism a religion that basically believes in the same god only Jesus is a prophet rather then the savior.
Do you think a true "loving" god would support such a thing?

All in all i don't think you need to believe in the god character to please him. (if he exists)
If we all just look after each other and all life he, if there is a god, would be happy with us, regardless of whether we worshiped him or not.
Well said! But people seem not to understand....it's not about just believing in Him. That's never enough....that's like saying, "Yeah, my parents are alive, but I choose not to talk to them, or interact with them in any way"! It's about loving Him. God want our love, willingly, with no reservations. He wants us to be able to display love for our fellow humans, no matter what the state of their body or soul....

This is hard for people to grasp....and when people say they believe God exists, but choose not to follow Him, it feels to me like it's for convenience purposes only. It's saddening.

Oh! And when Christians tell you you might go to Hell, it's SUPPOSED to be a service of love (I realize many "christians" misuse this statement as a thread....). The less souls in Hell the better. However, the rest is up to you. You CAN avoid it. But you need to make the effort. ^^ It's all about choice!

And if you don't agree with me, you CHOOSE not to agree with me. But there is no reason to be hostile towards me! 3nodding

'You're going to Hell, but I love you! Stop being who you are!'

That doesn't seem loving to me.

I am a Christian because philosophicaly it makes the most sense, how much better would the world be it we not only treated each other with love, but felt it in our hears. How much better would the world be if we sacraficed a little to help those in need? How much better would the world be if we thought "you know would I like that done to me?" before we commit a crime and or sin against a fellow human being?

Oh I so enjoy this brand of circular logic... you believe, because you already believed things about him which mandate belief. So, lacking belief that he created the world and his son died and everything, you wouldn't believe, but having belief in god gives you belief in god... a=a, thus, a=a, yay, reflexive property ^^;

Wait... I'm going to hell? AWESOME! You see, non-believers go to hell, and some of the most interesting intellectual world changing people are going to hell for not believing in your specific god...

When I die, I'm gonna be able to meet Plato, Socrates (if he existed... which he probably did, just covering my bases you 'Plato made him up conspiracy theorists >.<'), Gandhi, Tesla, Einstein, Aristotle, hell, even Newton wasn't a firm believer. Oh, I'll also meet Siddhartha, and even Herman Hesse. I'll probably meet Alan Watt's too. Humm... Hell seems like a pretty bright place, I'd rather meet those wonderful philosophers and scientists than end up only being able to talk to boring people who dedicated their entire lives to a god who says "don't believe in me, you go to hell, no if, and's, or buts."

Hahahahaha I can name two quotes that disproves the belief to some extent

"I do not believe God plays dice" -Einsein

"The world would be a better place if we all followed the Sermon on the mount" -Ghandi

now for the man whom I think puts Einstein to shame as far as intellegence

"I wonder what God was doing before the creation of the Universe?" -Steven Hawkings

Soooooo.....you're saying you CAN'T stop making bad choices? Ok, so say I was a shoplifter. I was quite young, and didn't know the ultimate consequences of what I was doing, but I still knew it was wrong. I did it quite often. It became a part of who I was. Then someone who caught me shoplifting one day decided to confront me. She said that what I was doing could land me in jail. If she did not care about my well-being, she would not have confronted me and pointed out the consequences. Now, I have two choices: either I stop, and avoid jail-time, or I continue shoplifting with the looming possibility of getting thrown in jail.

So yes, it is "I love you, so please stop the evil you are doing so you can be saved as well". But just like the lady in my story, I can only shed light on the situation. I can't make you stop what you are doing. But if I DON'T tell you, you'd never understand the consequences.
