That's just the thing with opinions though; no one can win when they see things differently. 3nodding Even you have acknowledged this fact. smile

well, so long you don't make a personal bash on her...I have to agree *sigh* This is a place for debate. I'm sure she'll figure a way to back up her points. I'm not here to make an enemy of you, Phaedrus. I hope you don't see it that way.

I don't take offense. You seem to be rational enough, but I really can't take people who won't even argue. If she had responded to my first post in this topic rationally and with a point, I probably would have responded the same way. Oh well, when she comes back, maybe she'll have a good point. That would be fun.

Oh, and yes, I do believe that there are people who don't want control over their own lives. There are people who put their lives entirely in the hands of other people, simply because they are not responsible enough to make choices on their own. Either that, or they're afraid of making choices on their own. There are people who would let someone else choose everything for them. Those are the people who don't want any power whatsoever.

I never thought of that; you have a point, alas... sweatdrop There are people who have been so pampered in life that they do not wish to do anything for themselves, or are too frightened to because they have never been outside of the box....though they are few and fa in between, you are right.

They may be frightened, but they WANT control over their life buy may not be able to because of the circumstances...and I think that people are responsible enough to make choices on their own, (unless they have a dissability) but even so....they WANT power over their lives and to be able to decide by themself. Like all the people that want to come here (to America, Canada, and other free countires) they want control over their lives to decide what they want to do.

I guess in a sense, lol. Sorry, but I gotta go...must shovel snow...grrrr. xd
OK, so I just got back. I hate to do this, but no.

What are being put forth here are not opinions. You say that people want power. You're stating a fact, not an opinion. If you said, "I think people want power," you would be stating an opinion. You didn't do that.

Plus, opinions of this sort should be substantiated by facts. I agree with the fact that a large percentage of people in this world want power. I do not believe that everyone does. I do not believe that everyone wants control of their own lives. I have provided examples. My statement has more proof than yours.

People who let others make their decisions for them are not necessarily pampered. Some are simply insecure. Some people let a parent, a friend, a spouse, etc. make any and all decisions for them. The fact is, power is not something everyone wants. You say in your editted first post that you want to hear other people's ideas, well, this is mine. My idea is that on this point you are extremely wrong.

I disagree with most of your points, but the one that stands out most is the one on power. Do you know even the first thing about power? Power doesn't corrupt. Power only corrupts those who seek power. You say that everyone wants power, but that isn't true. Some people today, and people all through history have rejected power. The only case of such a person coming into power that I can think of is George Washington.

I would say something about your points on life and death, but I don't think I will. Just that I really don't fear death, not even deep down.

You want proof, you got it....

They like to have the feeling of ruling and being in absolute control. When one has a sense of power, they have a sense of greatness and they want to be remembered. For example, I don't want my boyfriend to ever need to look at strippers because he always claims my body is beautiful the way it is, but I want the power to keep him from going to strip-clubs because I'm afraid and feel inadequate...There is an example....and I even want the controll so my siblings wouldn't tell on me when I was little. People want to have power so they can controll what they get and when they get it. People with power get what they want when they want it. You can have power of issues and what people talk about. You may even get the power to controll what they say. These are more examples. They do want power; over their own lives, how they spend them, how things work out...not a single soul doesn't want control over their own life, and that is a kind of power we all need.

How do you know what other people want and need?

Heh, I just realized that this got moved to GD. I can't make you debate anymore.
