Okay, new Towns update means new Homes update means new introduction!! whee Welcome to the Gaia HOMES FAQ. Here you will find the answers to the most common questions people have about Gaia Homes. Please read them ALL before you ask a question!

Q: What is Gaia Homes?
- Gaia Homes is a way for you to build your own Home, customize your Home, and place your Home inside Gaia Towns. You can then invite your friends over to your Home and have a party!

Okay, here's the list of questions:

1. Where is the Gaian Housing Commission?
- It is located in the Town of Aekea (select Games -> World Map). Which is 2 right clicks from Barton Town. Hover over all the houses until you find the right one. (its the one farthest to the right) Or just click: Housing Commision

2. How do I buy a house?
- You go to Gaia Housing Commission and click on HOMES (GET YOUR HOMES HERE) You can select from three types. Type A B C

3.What's the difference between the different styles of home?
- The difference lies in the floor plan... if you look at VO's house you can see it. On the one wall he has two windows and on the other 3...

4. How much does it cost?
- Gaia houses are FREE
i) Remoddelings cost 500g (this means you change the style)
ii) Upgrades cost 5000g (this means your house's size increases)

5. Where do i find furniture?
- Josie now sells furniture! Just go to the Housing Commision and select the first option in the menu. It redirects you to the Faktori.

6. How do I get my things into the House??
- Go to the Housing Commision and click ARRANGE FURNITURE. Drag and drop items into the suitcase to make them available in the Housing Arranger. The Housing Arranger will allow you to customize your home. Once you have finished copying items into your suitcase, save, and then click Arrange My Home

7. How do I put wallpaper and Flooring into my room?
- Next to the View/Edit icon there is a icon called Tiles that lets you edit the floor and walls with tiles that you bought at the shop. You need to pick a wall and select what Wallpaper or Flooring tile you want.

8. How do i put my stuff into my house?
- You put the stuff into your suitcase and then click on Arrange my Home which will take you into your house. Then you just click on Inventory and drag and drop the items to where you want them.

9. How do i rotate the items?
- When you drop your item or select it a green icon appears beneath it. Click on that to rotate your item to where you want it.

10. How do I get my avi into my room?
- You can always enter your own house in Towns manually by clicking on your door.

11. Can I have a roomate?
- Technically, no. What you can do is have your house unlocked so that your friend can put their avatar inside your house. But be aware that if your house is open to the public you might get foreign people lurking inside. ninja

12. How do I save?
- I'd press View first then if i like the way it looks. I press save. (there's a big button for it)

13. Can I buy more than one room or add a level?
- Not yet. They might make that another feature in the next Update. Keep watching the announcements!

14. How do I turn on a light?
- When you view your home in the right hand corner there is a litte icon of a sun. Click it and it'll go dark in your room. Then click on your lamp and hey presto the light is on!

15. Can I put wall tiles onto the floor?
- No. That would be silly. They're made specifically for Wall and Floor otherwise they'd just be tiles.

16. Can we sell our furniture back to the store?
- Anything you wish to sell you leave in your inventory. You can sell back to the store or in the Market-Place or in normal trades. YOU CANNOT SELL ANYTHING THAT IS IN YOUR SUITCASE!!!

17. Can we talk to our roomates in the Room?
- Yes, you can talk to your roomate or anyone else via GAIA TOWNS.

18. How do you get into other peoples houses?
- You click on their door in Gaia Towns. In Gaia Towns you can "lurk" in an open house. IF THE HOUSE IS LOCKED YOU CANNOT GET IN.

19. The house-icon doesn't show in my user-bar!
- Yes, it has been removed for the time being. Just go to the Housing Commision and Press GO TO MY HOME under Josie.

20. How do I access my house?
- Go to the Housing Commision and press GO TO MY HOME under Josie.

21. Does upgrading and then changing the style of my house turn it back into a single "room" house?
- No, your upgrade shall remain because changing the style (an extra 500g everytime) does not affect the upgrade in anyway.

22. How do I put my Home in Gaia TOWNS?
- Please go read the Gaia Towns FAQ on how to do that.

Gaia Homes Tutorial

So you want to get a home? First, head on down to Aekea. Once there, you will find there are three buildings available to go into. Find the one that says "Housing Comissions".



There, you have three options. You can either:

*~- Get yourself a home.
*~- Change the style of your current home.
*~- Upgrade your home to a bigger size.

Click on the first button. You will then have the choice of three styles. They are all the same size, but how it looks on the outside will be different. And don't worry! They're free!

After you have chosen your style of home, your house will be created. You can visit your home by going to your Profile, which can be accessed at the top of the screen on any page. Quick access to Your Suitcase Page can be found underneath the "My Gaia" main button. Simply click on Furnish Home and you'll be taken to the page. This is where you can put items in your suitcase to furnish your home with. Then, click on "Arrange My Home" to see your house. Make sure you have Shockwave 10, or it won't load. Congratulations, you now have a Gaia Home! But it's pretty empty. Why don't we furnish it?

House Furnishing Tutorial!

Okay, so we have our house. Now what do we do? We furnish it of course! Remember how to get to your house? Well, the page that contains the "Arrange Your Home" button is also called the Briefcase Page. What that means is you can put any item (as long as you're not wearing it) from your inventory into your briefcase. Then, when you go into your house, you can select the item you want and place it in there! So to buy some sweet furniture, head on down to Aekea (two clicks East of Barton, or select it from the drop down menu) again, and select the purple building at the top right area of the map. At the Faktori main page, Bildeau, Bouldeau, and Ribbeteau will sell you everything you need for your house.

So when you're done shopping (take your time), head over to the "My Briefcase Page". There, find the items you want in your home. See the little toolbar underneath the area where your briefcase items are shown? You can select people from your Friendslist to be in your house! This doesn't count as sharing a room, but with this you can have a party at your house, and everyone on your Friendslist is invited. And don't worry about putting your friend back in every time they change clothes: they will automatically change clothes in your home. All set? Then click on the "Arrange My Home" button and start decorating your house!

Here's a picture to help you:


1. Friends you have in your briefcase ( eek )
2. Furniture Selection Screen and Clear Room Button.
3. Menu that helps put carpet and wallpaper on the walls & "View" Buttom (let's you see your house the way others see it).
4. Sets whether you want to see all the objects in people, just the lines of objects in people, or no objects or people. (Open=All, Slightly Shut=Lines, Closed=None).

So place a piece of furniture (anything you want!) into the room simply by clicking on the item, dragging it over to the house (keep the mouse button down!) and simply letting go. The item will be placed in your house. Now, after you put it down, the item will be selected. This means you can rotate it as you can given how little or much space is available. You can do this using the green button with an arrow on it. Voila! Simply repeat until you have your house set as you want it. If you put an item in a room, then decide it's not for you, simply press the red button with an X on it to put it back into your briefcase. Remember, any item in your briefcase will not show up anywhere else, and in your inventory it'll be greyed out. So if you want to sell whatever you don't want, make sure to take it out of your briefcase by simply clicking on it in the "My Briefcase" page.

So you have furniture in. Why not dazzle the walls and floor with carpet and wallpaper? Simply click on the menu (number three in the image), and click the wall, in the small diagram of the house, you want the wallpaper on. Sometimes there will be different "styles" for the wallpaper. They usually just rotate the patern. And to put carpet down, simply repeat what you did for the wallpaper, except click on the floor this time.

And there you go! If you have any more questions that isn't in this thread all you have to do is ask. Have fun, and remember: there's no place like home!

If the person having the selectable-items error is using Netscape- there's something up between Netscape and Gaia. They just don't seem to really like each other when it comes to the inventory. I have the same issues. If you have either Firefox or IE, do the suitcase loading there.

I have a question. Is the only difference in the homes the little icon on the lower left when you view it? I've viewed a few and the styles seem indentical except for that. neutral

The rectangle shaped house is a little different than the square one. But i haven't seen a round one yet.

Yes. When you are putting things into your suitcase below it there is a menu with your friends list. Selecting one of the people in it and then Arrange your Home will make that person appear in your home. (it's a drop down menu next to your inventory menu)

Since Gaia Homes is a brand new feature there will still be a few things that will not be working out. Be patient it'll work soon. biggrin
