In today's Ask the Admin, it was just revealed that Attendance Achievements handle the changing of days differently than practically everything else on the site! Unless you're in California's timezone, what Achievements consider a new day is not what Daily Chance considers a new day.

A few weeks back I logged onto one of my accounts after midnight (Pacific time zone) but not the rest of the day and the next day I logged on to find it had completely reset. Frustrating, to say the least.

There's no easy way to explain all of the edge cases, but the short of it is:
The login-once-a-day-for-X-days achievements use your local timezone (according to your account setting). If you change your timezone in account settings, that may affect our calculations.

Note: when these type of achievements first came out, there were timezone issues but those were fixed months ago (I believe before New Years).

Thank you so much for posting! That's really useful to know. I'll add it to the achievements when I actually get chance to sort everything out (been so busy!).

I did wonder if that was the case - I'm pretty sure there have been days where I've logged in both days UK time but have missed the 24 hours of a PST day, but it's very reassuring to have it confirmed.

I just posted a Site Notice about this and the Birthday Achievement.

If you would like to petition (in Site Feedback) to get this changed, we are more than willing to hear your case. At the time we were in the code, we needed to standardize a timezone for calculations. Local time is what we decided on at that time.

Eh, I was mostly just miffed at this not being explained to us. The Site Notice helps, so thanks for that. Also nice to hear about how forgiving the Birthday Achievement is.

I think the only thing that really matters is that we know how it works. As someone outside of the US though, I prefer it the way it is - I don't have to worry about timezones or anything, just log in every day.

One thing I am curious about though, is daylight savings time. The US and the UK change to and from daylight savings time a few weeks apart. For those few weeks, the time shown to me in forums is an hour off. (I believe this also affects people in countries where they don't use daylight savings time.) Am I right in thinking that local timezones are calculated based on deviations from Pacific timezone? So for me in Britain, would these achievements be based on the time Gaia thinks is GMT, rather than actual GMT? It's not a huge problem, but if you're logging in for 180 days straight it would be pretty annoying to miss it by an hour, so it would be good to know.

Feebas, I know. Stupid alchemy achievements. I've got 20 more </3s to get for Firestarter and will be done with Perfect Attendance on April 25. I don't think there's any way I'm going to get all the alchemy ones, though. Just not enough gold.

Yeah its brutal, the general ones are do-able but alchemy is all a matter of coin. I know many users have had others help them out in that department, but I've never felt comfortable going that route. Ah well one day *shakes fist* I'm almost at the half way point.
