There's something I wish to ask.

If I want to open a design contest, where people design outfits for a male OC of mine, what would be the prize be worth approximately, how long should the contest last, what should I do to get the max amount of entry vs good quality entries, etc. ? Do you have any suggestions? I'm not concerned about the art quality, but more of the outfit's originality/look/how it fits my character.

Wonderful guide by the way! It didn't help me a lot on the art contest part (since I don't participate in those), but the suggestions on how to improve your art is wonderful. Thank you for that. >w<

With a design contest, you can probably get away with having smaller value prizes and still get great entries, since you're just asking for an outfit design and not a whole finished price of art. That said, it's still a personal choice on how much you feel you want to get out of it. I might go three to five months? If you need an extension option, you could set a minimum based on how many potentially usable outfits you want to get. If you want three outfits you like, maybe a ten entry minimum -- only one in four outfits might fit what you're looking for, but you always want to err on the side of the entrants, or you'll look greedy.

Number of prize places may determine your entrant number more than top prize, unless you've got one huge top prize.

If you see any artists whose designs you like, you could always approach them and let them know you're running the contest, just be very polite about it.

There're two fairly recent design contests that are probably similar to what you're intending. One's still running:

Might be more if you check the contests forum for outfit or clothing -- I did my search using the word "design."

I would be aiming for 3-5. However, I think I would want to mix and match different outfits that will be created, so I can get something that would suit my tastes. Is there more people participating on art contests than design contests? I'm not sure but those two contests doesn't seem to be getting a lot of participants.

Destructive Bunny

This really is a fantastic guide for entrants, I've held 2 contests some years ago and you are very spot on about how I judge things.

Looking back, the winning entry wasn't the best artistically speaking, but it had a lot of characters, background, and a good composition.
