aside from the simplified economics lesson, which i really do appreciate!! it really all made sense..
I also love your art!! XD its soo cute! did you make it all? :> hihih

Thank you. 3nodding Glad to hear that it made sense.
And yep. Except from the tiny Flynn's Booty icons, every pen stroke is made by me. wink Even all those pesky little gold coins... xp

Oddly enough I had been thinking about creating a guide on a similar topic, however now I'd like to throw it your way if you want to do anything with it (your delivery is way better than mine would ever be)

The topic of chance items (most of them seem to offer either random gold amounts or random items)
Obviously items are a better choice for the economy.
comic about this would be good. smile

That's definitely an interesting topic for a comic. smile I'm a little swamped right now with school and other art projects, so I'm afraid I won't have the time to make one... But if you feel that this is an important subject that needs to be told, I encourage you to go for it! 3nodding

Very good but you have forgotten gaia’s side of the story.

Gaiaonline’s only source of income is players who buy gaia cash. They know not everyone’s going to buy it but when they had so many players online everything was stable. There used to be 100,000 – 200,000 players online at any given time. Now it’s down to 10,000 – 20,000 players online at any given time. That’s 90% of players gone.

So view it like this. 1/10 players buy gaia cash, so if 90% of players are gone then that means they have taken a 90% pay cut. So to counter this they made gold more abundant to help urge players to buy more cash.

Gaia’s plan has helped them but it’s more players that will cure their need for money not urging more players to buy. I am afraid that if things don’t improve to get more players online, then gaia could go belly up due to inactivity and lack of income. Face it people grow up after 10 years or so and thus they leave gaia to live out their lives and start families and what not. So they need new players to fill the void.

Hi! Will you be doing further comics to explain the economy as it is now? biggrin

Just seen one of your earlier posts.

Good luck with work! I am pretty sure I've commented on this thread some time ago - but if I haven't - lovely comic! :3

I think all Gaians will agree that although Gaia Online shutting down will be sad, it's not worth the fight to try and force staff to listen. We have all played ZOMG and loved it to death, but have you ever had the feeling that new staff would bring more awesomeness to Gaia Online? Well, it didn't and so we're stuck staring at a hyper inflating marketplace with no gold to spend. Even if we do have the cash to spend, the staff's lack of positive interactions and excessive 'cash shop sales' only makes us less inclined to buy pixel avatar items. Recolor.me has an amazing free to play experience. Unlike our current marketplace, Re has a fixed price for items, and you can buy at least two items per day you play. (Here you'd have to resell items, or pray that someday you will have a cool looking avi) If you compare the potential money both sites can make, Gaia Online is the clear loser in both cash and players. And why is that? It's the staff, always the staff. Why is it the staff? Because the staff runs the site and decides what to do. All it takes for the staff to fix this is to remove gold generators, release a monster bashing mini-game that gives us free gold, cut out the idiotic word for 'limited sale' and perma change the price and Gcash grants, and listen to player ideas for expanding the site rather than for item recolors we never needed. Sounds simple enough with all the cash they seem to hoard.

calenatar's Wife

I've been away from Gaia for a few years, and just came back a few weeks ago.

How I would have loved to have seen this thread/comic sooner. It explains SO much that I've had to find out the hard way.

I came back (with some older MC items on me, nothing overly fancy), and had very little gold, but after logging in for several days just to cash in on the gold generators, I acquired a fair chump of change. I was SO happy!

I went to the stores, bought some new things, and was like, "Now what?" #bored

None of the items in the (gold based) stores now are overly expensive with their clothes and items, and what I would used to feel like I would/may have to quest for (say five or six years ago) has been reduced to feeling like I'm giving someone a quarter. It feels very cheap, and meaningless.

It lessens my desire to want to come and buy everything (or anything for that matter), and it makes me wonder why people are still questing for things with all of the gold generators handing out gold like it's free candy at a bank.

It's a sad day in Gaia for me now crying

I find it may be worth our time to try and get them to listen, especially for us old members who wants to see gaia the way it used to be. It reminds me a lot of the maplestory economy. Back when I first joined, 1k cash used to amount to around 500k mesos? Maybe closer to a mil. It was a good time then, because you can grind for millions at your favorite monster maps (or more specifically the cellions in amoria). Nexon has helped the inflating economy somewhat, seeing as in those 6 or so years, the price for nx is around 170m per 1k, goes up to 200 in the summer, then back down again once school starts.

And then I come back to gaia.... Seeing that my one million isn't worth jack s**t and that you're not rich unless you have literally 1000x more than that amount. Holy baby jesus. I want to stay on gaia and keep making new friends (despite being in my 20's lol ) with the same interests. The community has always been a great place for me, and I would love to fight to see it stay up for longer.

At this rate, though, I wonder how long it'll be until they crash and burn?
