Click...click...click....another click and you yawn. You’ve played this dating sim more times than you can count now and sadly....you’re bored. You’ve tried to played other dating sims but you’ve quickly have become bored of them too. It seems as of late nothing you play seems to entertain you. You tried the Mighty Hero Dating Quest and you’ve won a date with everyone plus the secret boss ending. You tried Spacy Starkiss, and again won all dates with every alien including discovering a new planet and winning all the dates on it! You’ve played and beat three times the overly cute Oink Oink Kiss Kiss and kissed all the pigs. You even tried the odd and creepy Feisty Knitting Room....you’re actually not sure if you beat that one or not. It seems you’ve played them all. Can nothing satisfy you dating sim needs? But still, you’re bored. And honestly....a bit lonely.

In a gloomy mood, you close out the game you’re playing and decide, one last time, to search for a new dating sim game. You click on the Kettle icon on your desk top and begin to look at the new online games you can download. After a few long minutes to trying to find something, anything but coming up short, you sigh and decide maybe it’s just time to binge watch a new show or two. But right before you close the window, a popup appears on your screen. ‘Stupid adblocker not working...’ you grumble but actually take the time to read what it says before close it too. You read...

“Do you feel like a lonely NPC? Looking for someone to woo that you’ve never wooed before? Wanting to BE wooed by a dating sim character? Just want a nice cup of tea and small bite of cake? Well, maybe you, yes YOU! Need to play The Heart Break Café. A dating sim unlike any other.”

You pause your mouse and reread the ad again. A dating sim huh? It’s actually a cute ad now that you think about it. Little hearts floating around in a bigger broken one. There’s two ladies standing next to the heart, maybe the main characters? One is a demon looking lady with an eye patch, she’s smiling as if she knows something you have yet to figure out. The other lady is a smaller green zurg and she looks....well grouchy. She’s holding a broom and looking at you as if saying just TRY to make a mess. ‘Oh what the hell.’ It looks like a cute ad and you have to admit you’re curious to what kind of dating sim this could be. Maybe it’s a virus but you decide to take a risk and click on the ad.

Suddenly a blinding light comes from your screen, forcing you to cover your eyes. Your head feels a bit dizzy like you’re moving to fast and suddenly you begin to hear sounds that shouldn’t be in your room. The sweet smell of baked goods surround you and slowly you blink your eyes open. You’re no longer in your room looking at your computer. You’re in a small café that seems bigger the longer you stare. It’s full of all sorts of interesting people. Some human, some not but all are busy as they serve costumers who also look interesting. You blink your eyes once more and realize you recognize some of these people. They’re from dating sims you’ve played in the past! Just then you notice two ladies walking towards you and you can now see they’re they ladies from the ad. You’ve come to realized you’re IN the dating sim!

“Welcome to the Heart Break Café!”
The demon lady smiles at you. The zurg lady only frowns.
“You better not cause any trouble here.”
“Tr...tr...trouble?”
You can’t help but stutter in surprise. The little zurg eyes you.
“You SEEM like a trouble maker....I’ll have no smooching here!”
“Oh really now Meushi...”
The demon lady smiles more and speaks on.
“Why don’t you stay a while! Order some cake! This is the best place for dating sims to gather and get some rest!”
She pats you, rather hard, on the shoulder. The zurg glares at you more but only goes back to sweeping. You look around at the place, full of characters of games you’ve played. Maybe YOU’RE a character in a game too...you’re certainly drawn to this place. You decide to stay...just for a while and who knows maybe the Heart Break Café can cure that boredom you’ve been feeling....and maybe that loneliness too.

Making a Dating Sim of our little Café wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be, but it was certainly hard on our budget!
