Yeah, we know, this isn't necessarily when you have Winter Break. Not the point.
From the producers of the popular event Gaia Spirit Week over the summer comes Winter Break! I'm sure some of you remember Spirit Week and if so, good news! Winter Break is going to be just as fun. We figured that since people enjoyed Spirit Week so much, maybe it was time to do another event. Thus, Winter Break!
Winter Break is about having fun and playing in the snow. Of courseee. We're going to have lots of fun stuff for you to do, from Snow Wars to a Winter Formal to a chance to win a Oct. 06 letter!

Everyone loves getting presents, so for Spirit Week Winter Break, we've decided to host a massive gift exchange with the name of the Secret Santa event. The only requirement to receive a gift is that you give one in return. To participate in the event, just follow the steps listed below. They're quite simple, really.

One) Choose a present to give. We're not setting any price guidelines; no maximums or minumums. We do kindly request, however, that you try not to give trash. No one likes to open a giftbox and find crumpled bits of paper inside. Also, if you decide to give a very valuable gift, please keep in mind that you will probably not receive a gift of equal value in return. Not everyone can afford to give away expensive items.

Two) Click on your chosen present, then click on 'give as gift.' Choose your wrapping paper; anything goes. Then send your gift along to 'I r Saint Nick.' Do not send the gifts to I r Spirit Week. Make sure you send them to Saint Nick, for he is running this year's Secret Santa event. Also, make absolutely sure that you do not send the gift anonymously! This is very, very important.

Three) This is our part. We receive every wrapped gift, all of which will sit in Saint Nick's inventory until December 21st, when we redistribute them. Upon receiving a gift, we enter the giver's username into our handy dandy notepad, forming a giant master list of everyone who is participating.

Four) On December 21st, wait patiently while we redistribute the yet-unopened giftboxes. Once you receive your gift, open it up and enjoy the happiness that comes with getting a present!

Simple, right? So participate! Events are always more fun with more people involved, and who doesn't want to get a present?

And we know that some of you might want to send in more than one present but please don't! We only one one gift per user! If you sent in 2+ gifts already, before this notice, that's okay. You'll get two in return. But if you send more than one after this, we'll be donating the extras! We're going to gift them to random people if to random people if we get more than one per person. Sorry guys, that's just how it's going to be!

The best way to celebrate winter?
Have a snowball fight.

One of the main events of Winter Break is going to be Snow Wars.
We've set up two forums as battlegrounds, and we've provided graphics to help you guys fight it out.
Snow Wars is a fight to the death between the classes!
You'll use the graphics/images we provided to post in the battlegrounds, to show your spirit/fight for your team! Your team will be your class, of course. Your class being the year you joined Gaia (The year you first joined Gaia, even if that's on another account), so each year is a different class. For example, all the people who joined Gaia in 2005, are in the 05 class.
You'll battle it out by posting in those forums for the three days of the event, and at the end of the event we'll announce one of the classes as a winner!

I know some of you are thinking, but what's the point? What do we get?
The answer is: There isn't one! You don't get anything! It's just fun. It's amusing. Why do anything on Gaia at all? Because you enjoy it. This is just another way to have fun, and interact with other people, and maybe even gain some bragging rights at the end.
So c'mon. Come post, and have fun. biggrin

On the night of December 20th, from 6pm-12am EST, there will be a temporary truce called for the sake of the Gaia Winter Formal. There will be a special board set aside for the event, a link to which will be posted on the night of the dance. The idea of the event is simple. Everyone just lays down their snowballs, puts their class spirit on the shelf for the night, and trades it out for fancy clothes and friendly conversation!

In typical Spirit Week style, we're asking everyone to dress up their avatar for the event. Since it's a Winter Formal, break out your formal attire! Pretty dresses, suits, hats, and roses all suit the mood nicely, but be creative. Wear your best clothing, whatever that may be. Remember, IRL pictures are always wonderful as well!

The Gaia Winter Formal has all the benefits of a real one, with none of the downsides! You can ask someone to be your date, dance about in Towns, or just chat up the other guests on the Winter Formal board (both of which will be linked to once the event begins). You can dress up pretty, whether only in Gaia or in reality as well, you can gossip about fellow Gaians (keep it friendly!) or you can glue yourself to the virtual punch bowl. And in the end, no one has to drive home. Have a ball!

But remember, when the clock strikes midnight (EST), the carriage turns back into a pumpkin and the snowballs start flying once more.

Since the Spirit Week raffle was such a huge hit, we've decided to bring it back for an encore. The rules are exactly the same as they were in the summer: one ticket costs 100 gold. Just send I R Spirit Week a trade request with the proper amount of gold. You know, 100 gold for one ticket, 200 for two, et cetera. Title your trade request 'Raffle Tickets Plox'. We will assign you a random number and then, at the end of Spirit Week, we'll hold a random drawing here at headquarters (AKA our IRL computer desks).

Yes - well, let's be honest. We really do want you to dress up. It's our favorite thing to see people in class color outfits. Srsly. Dress up in your class color! If that's just not your style, so worries! Put on a holiday outfit. Winter themed, Christmas themed, whatever. It's all good. We just want to see you all looking nice. :]
