Your assessment is lolita is slightly true. It's main focus is elegance above all else and also modesty in most of its sub genres. (within the exception of ero-lolita and even that's modest compared to most other fashions) But as within any fashion there are things that are considered faux pas. There are things that are considered "no-no's" within any fashion, despite whether personal taste or not. The fashion world is a very critical place. To think otherwise is kind of contradictory of what makes things "fashionable" in the first place. Too much lace is considered unfashionable within the lolita community.
Yeah, you can have a bunch of lace and have big cuts and maybe show off some cleavage. But to most lolitas you're not doing it right. There's a STYLE to style.

Theres some beautifully detailed items like Keiko's Cake and it's recolors, Heartfelt Trixie and its recolors done very well, but then you have your items like Vibrant Sunshine and Lethal Yandere that have questionable colors and silhouettes.

But over-all, Gaia is getting better with their "lolita" items. I just wish half the items in the lolita tag weren't tagged by it. emotion_facepalm

I know that new shortcake item that was in the cash shop would go with it! Also, try Cafe Miam with it, the bonnet, blouse and couple other poses work very well for it. Also, try Casseopia Cutie shoes, they make your feet look smaller and the shoes match the skirt~ emotion_yatta

Admittedly, as someone who is absolutely unfamiliar with Lolita style, I have no idea what "good" lolita would even look like... It would be sort of helpful for us outsiders to see a side-by-side comparison. I always assumed that the kind of stuff gaia does is the standard, only chibified. lol

empire waist? thats a popular cut for the more babydoll style dresses. pro doesn't help that the natural waist isn't that far from the bust either, so often bodymods to amp up the bosom can squeeze out the waist for space


i think it'd be nice to have more realistic lolita items alongside the stylized, with more bold colors that aren't necessarily bright (im thinking red here).

on the other hand, when ppl go "ugh thats not how the style is/you have yo be restrained" my spite wakes up and i wanna be the most pastel piercing froofy lace monster i can possibly be. doesn't help that i like more outrageous/stylized looks to begin with, since my irl clothes are so plain. especially in lolita or cosplay circles i dislike criticism (is there a more neutral word..?) since those fashions/hobbies are extremely inaccessible.

Well Gaia's also had issues where they'd match an entire outfit in the same color. I think that doesn't lend to making cute outfits. I prefer items that coordinate well together with a few different colors.

Something else though it's not just that Gaia is behind in style but that they're likely going to release pastels, vivid colors, etc because they're in the market of recolors

Welcome to the fashion world. It's vicious. Believe it or not, the more you're into a fashion the more you become aware that there are rules to what you're doing, no matter what sub culture or style you're into.
It is called "a style" for a reason. It's one thing to just kind of be vaguely interested and not really into it and just doing it on the side. But expect people who are into it to kind of critique what you're doing.
But when you're into a fashion you should be aware there's ideals of what you're doing. That's how the fashion world works. There's unfashionable things and there's fashionable things. There's things that are in style and things that are out of style.
Things trend. That's why they're trendy.
