I feel bad this is being downvoted to hell so fast by people that can't think for more than a few minutes why this issue isn't as serious as they think it is...

Gaia could very well just implement features users will "miss" onto their own site. You know what sucks about that though? If that ever happens (ala inventory calculator etc.) then folks will cry "Oh so Gaia shut down Tektek to do this for themselves!"

Lol no. I would never be able to look up half the things I want to find if my only resource is Gaia. If I decide I need an item that will provide blue for my left arm, I can toggle through several of TekTek's tags and find literally all blue items that deal with arm-like/upper body poses. On Gaia I am screwed. What I am suppose to start a thread and spend a week talking to people about any random blue item they can think of? Search blue in Gaia and get some of their blue items, many that will have nothing to do with upper body poses. I can try searching arms or bracelets or any other countless tag words, but I will get all colors and even then there will be tons of items that aren't going to show because their tag system fails.

Besides all the different filters, one of the huge things TekTek did was let you search through the individual poses that met what you were looking for. There are so many poses hidden within items that will never show up through searches you will do on Gaia. Pft there have been numerous times I couldn't find a pose/item in my own inventory because I couldn't remember exactly how to spell the name or what pose was tied to what item icon.

Dressing up and finding items shouldn't be a chore, but it is on Gaia. Sure if you know the exact spelling of the name or are searching for something simple like wings, then you will get most of the results and can slog through them. Just make sure to check the tags wing and wings because those give two different results. That and pray you aren't trying to do something stupid like find one of the beyond items by typing in something asinine like the actual word beyond.

Of course Gaia's white knights would fail to think for themselves, and would be quick enough to say anything stupid just to dismiss yours or everyone that's against the site's actions as BS even though people make a valid point.

It would be less of a problem if Gaia themselves had even just half of these features, or even hinted that they had plans to implement them. Problem is, they don't, and it isn't likely that they will any time soon. Even when they gave us the new inventory arranger, it lacks many features they wanted to have and that users have been asking for, because they don't have the resources to work on it more. They couldn't work on zOMG, they couldn't work on a good inventory manager update.. so I don't see how they could possibly work on a new item database ( they can't even seem to take the time to fix their already broken tagging system ), or an inventory calc, more intuitive dressing room, or even just a quest tracker.

Maybe you could take a look through the guides and resources forum. There is actually list for just the sort of things you are talking about.

And honestly, I have not had the issues you seem to have had on Gaia. Sorry that remembering what you have is difficult, and perhaps you will find a solution that works for you.

Yes, because I want to spend hours searching through hundreds of resource guides to do what used to take a few minutes. Perhaps you can point out what resource guides will help me find items for my above example, all blue poses for my avi's left arm?

Honestly I stopped using TekTek middle of last year due to it being out of date (between items or item price) and the layering not being right (uuuuuugh I bought soooo many things because of how awesome they looked on TekTek only to find out here that I couldn't wear them with the other stuff I was wearing or the layering was different).

Not saying TekTek wasn't useful, just saying it's easy to live without. I can kinda understand how someone that may have used it a ton might freak out a bit, though.

Staff here would be the first to tell you, I bitchfit about Gaia all the time. Did as an FA, do as a regular user, and yes, there is stuff they can do WAY better.

But this was something that to be honest is really a none issue.

I actually stopped using tektek about a year ago because by that point I only used it for the Avatar Maker.
When that crashed back then, I gave up and stuck to just my dressing room.

As far as the Quest Bar, Profile, and Add-on/Toolbar replacement though, my friend is currently in the process of making his own site for those ninja
It just so happens that this will be quite convenient for all of those people who feel "lost" without their tektek.

Tektek may have needed some work in a lot of areas, but over all the features it had were far more convenient than anything Gaia has ever made themselves. From the av maker to the inventory calc, using Tektek for these things was faster, easier, and more manageable. Yes, you CAN survive on Gaia without them, but that doesn't mean it isn't going to be a pain in the a**.

To be honest, personally, I have not used tektek for years. If folks get to know the site, it's really not an issue.

I know the site pretty well, I've been here long enough I'd like to think. That doesn't change the fact that for some things, Tektek just made it easier and better. Yes, I could use the tons of list pages and resources forums to look up items I can't remember the name of, or items that fit a certain theme or color or pose type. But, why would I want to sit there scouring the forums for threads, and opening tons of Marketplace preview links, having to individually sort through each item on a list.... when I could just go to tektek, choose my preferred sorting options, and then see my options. Its just easier, faster, and a more effective use of my time to check for things that way on tektek. I know perfectly well how to manage without it, but that doesn't mean I will enjoy it as much once tektek is gone. There is something called "User Experience" that comes into play here, and Tektek made up for a lot of UE problems that Gaia has.

I don't think there would be half this outrage if Gaia just showed up with these tools themselves. Right now it seems like they're shutting down tektek with no plan to implement anything. Or implement things "soon" like the inventory arranger.

If Gaia had tektek's system of organizing items and poses I'd have nothing to complain about.

I understand that, there are certain features that would be great, and who knows, Gaia could very well be implementing them or working on them now, long before this C&D was released. Also, it's understandably easier for someone on an off site to have this feature than Gaia, when it could very well break their coding and cause server issues.

The only thing I can add to this is they have things on their plate and yeah, I wish, along with many others that current features be updated. You and I have no clue how that is faring though. I do however know, that servers and actually having all the devs necessary to work on things like this is rough. Somewhere down the line, Gaia could be better than it is now, after 10 years, most users would hope so. But that takes lots more money than Gaia makes even now.

It's not easy running a site this "big" (Not saying Gaia is huge, but it isn't small either), not even with roughly 100 employees.

Yeah. Hopefully I don't suffer from adding to this. I'm mainly indifferent to a lot of this, not because I don't use Tektek anymore, I'll miss it, but it's features weren't updating much as it is either while he was obviously benefiting from the traffic still.

And they do admit it and they are trying to come up with alternative ways to get around the fact that some words just don't work in a Market search until they can get the glitches fixed. There's a lot of weird back end stuff that we'll never really know about because all they need us to be concerned with is the front end and the UI.

That isn't true. there is a valid reason why users are upset about that. as someone who does most of their avatar making ( and exploring with items i don't yet own) in teh avatar dress up room ON GAIA i used tektek and the lists posted all over gaia in tandem. I'm no stranger to looking around gaia for an item name or where something came from, but telling someone "stop whining you can do it just fine on gaia" especially when that is technically incorrect...

Here's the thing. A lot of people are getting their jimmies in a knot because they weren't going to wait to hear Gaia's side of things and just let TekTek go on using Gaia items and API to help promote his own competing avatar site. They realize how important of a service he does for people and would like to allow him the chance to continue to offer that. All he has to do is agree to remove any recolor.me ads on his TekTek pages and the world will go on existing. It's as simple as that. Right now they're waiting to hear back from him.

I've read what gaia has to say and i'm not denying that would be the solution to the issue. Believe me, i'm not. If you got that from what i said, i apologize. I am merely saying that telling people to suck it up and that you can do the exact same on gaia is not a cool thing to do.

In terms of the actual website issue in terms of ads, i know that. That makes sense. BUT as i read on the site's update, I've read teh letter. The letter is worded in such a way that says "take down all gaia property from the site. "

from the letter we are seeing, gaia's notice about it doesn't match what gaia is telling the users. I hope that option was communicated t o tekton cause otherwise... that isn't very cool.

I have to agree with what you said about Gaia's version of events vs. the actual legal notice sent. There was nothing in the note about actually removing Tekton's advertisements in the letter as a course of action, which is odd. Usually if a legal letter like that is sent, the desired courses of action are listed (as they were), however not one included keeping the site up with obvious links directing viewers to Gaia and/or removal of Recolor me adverts.

Whether Tekton would agree to either (or both) of those terms is doubtful, but they also did not give him the option in that initial notice.
