Isn't Gaia-tan just a cutesy babyish way of saying gaia-chan?
Could be wrong o.O
-tan is used for representing an inanimate object as a human.
Search OStan(s) on Google.
-chan is for young girls, usually.
That's not what I was taught o.O
I was taught that little 'uns often can't pronounce chan and say it tan by mistake. It was then used in a baby talk way between friends and by small children.
Lurk moar.
It has nothing to do with the Japanese suffix -tan.
-tan is put at the end of a character name that is a human representation of an inanimate object.
Wikipe-tan:

A human representation of Wikipedia.

Gaia-tan is supposed to be Gaia, but in human form.
If Gaia were a character or being, Gaia-tan is what it'd look like.
