Hey now, you're the one who keeps making such a big deal about how poor you are now. You can't expect people not to poke fun at that. xd

the suffixes -tan and -chin are usually used either in a babyish way or by high school girls when referring to good friends. kinda like -chama is for -sama

-tan is used for representing an inanimate object as a human.

Search OStan(s) on Google.

-chan is for young girls, usually.

That may be the case in Japan, but Gaia was going for something like this:

That's not what I was taught o.O
I was taught that little 'uns often can't pronounce chan and say it tan by mistake. It was then used in a baby talk way between friends and by small children.

Edit: just saw your last post. Thanks for the link xD
Not sure if anyone's asked, or anything, but what is Ilmacchiato a counter-part to?

Lurk moar.

It has nothing to do with the Japanese suffix -tan.

-tan is put at the end of a character name that is a human representation of an inanimate object.

Wikipe-tan:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/7/7a/Wikipe-tan_full_length.svg/180px-Wikipe-tan_full_length.svg.png

A human representation of Wikipedia.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moé_anthropomorphism
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OS-tan

Gaia-tan is supposed to be Gaia, but in human form.

If Gaia were a character or being, Gaia-tan is what it'd look like.
