Know This:xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Location: Aekea, South-East Quarter.
Business: Speakeasy.
Price Range: Cheap. Beer, fries n' burger joint, nachos are good though.
Size: One level, small building.
Weather: Late Summer; it's getting cooler. Expect some thundershowers.
Damages: None.
Next Upgrade: We're thinking plasma screens, another pool table, and lets spice up the menu, yes?
Cash Needed: $500/$15,000. (Page 30)

Current Event? Hoodlums! There's been a recent run of arson attacks around West Aekea, mostly targetting small businesses but also hitting one or two banks along the way. No robberies, just molotovs and some other home-made toys.

Aekea Is...
A dirty, hard-working industrial town. On the surface are the big-name car manufacturers, trucking stops and shipping companies. But let the dust settle and you'll notice the chop-shops and red tape, crooked cops and back-alley deals.

Isle De Gambino is where the girls are golden and the merchandise comes in from overseas.
Du'rem is where the goods hit the street and the bosses smoke cigars.
Aekea? Aekea's where the black dreams start and business gets done. You're here to work, you're here to make your mark, and you're here to make a deal.

Welcome to The Embargo.
The Building

Let's start outside.
To get here you're going to be coming down a paved industrial road, small businesses and condemned lots cropping up around you. The Embargo is firmly situated within the city limits, so anyone coming out through a forest or shaded path will be reported to the police as an addict on a bad trip. Pavement's cracked, dry grasses pushing through, oh, and that street lamp doesn't work anymore.

The Embargo's curb appeal comes from the fact that this square little building has a solid foundation, there's no trash or dumped materials on the sparse yellow lawn, and the stucco'd exterior has a fresh coat of black paint. It is one story high and boasts only two windows in the front, newly replaced with bullet-resistant glass and three in the back to keep the kitchen staff from dying in the hot Aekea summer. The front door and gated outer layer are unlocked at 3PM every afternoon and locked again at last call at 3AM in the morning. If you wanna be inside during locked hours, you'd better have permission.

There is one sad potted plant that the owners frequently forget to water standing under the yellow neon sign declaring the business name. There is no hot-tub, no jacuzzi, no pool, no forested area, and no garden. The 100-Square feet of yellow-green 'grass' is mowed short, and until someone decides to fix it up or there's enough money to throw outside, that's how it'll stay. If you're desperate for fresh air, here, there're some cinder blocks with a board set up for you to rest on.

Inside now.

The lightning inside is low but not enough to confuse colors, mellow with the clay-colored walls and occasional splash of red wine. Sure, the pine-colored floors are just laminate, and it turns into cheap lino once you get behind the bar or sneak into the small kitchen, but you won't find a roach or rat anywhere near this place, so there's your quality.

From the door you'll actually be in the bar itself. There's a clear space between the tables that could be called a 'dance floor' if you wish, but save for one small stage in the corner fit for a single singer or artist, music is clearly a sideline attraction. The volume doesn't go very high anyways, just enough for a nice ambiance and enough to cause a drone and keep eavesdroppers in the dark.

The L-shaped bar isn't very well stocked, but carries all the basics and cheap knock-off versions of special favourits. Don't expect to find your pricey foreign drinks back there, and due to the Management's aversion to those of the Vampire Line the Embargo is strictly BYOB, or Bring Your Own Blood. The bar is not self serve, the bar is not open, the bar is not free. If you don't pay, you can't drink.

The kitchen is accessed from behind the bar, the kitchen is not self-serve. Same deal as the bar: No money? Bring a sandwich.

The back is off-limits, it's VIP-only, it boasts the pool-table and some couches, and access to that dry wasteland of a lawn outside. The decor is similar here, but the difference is the company. If you're in the back, you're doing business. Yes, 'business'. Take that how you will. If you and your 'friend' need to have a 'talk', speak to one of the owners and they'll kindly show you to this private little nook.

Downstairs is looking pretty nice, but it's kinda bare at the moment with no furniture or anything of real interest. Still, there's another set of bathrooms back there along with the Owners' office. They'd like to see this lower level properly transformed into the new VIP lounge, but the cash's run dry and they're waiting for some more income.

The roof is accessed from the kitchen. Get off my roof.
The Neighbors
If you would like to play a character involved with any of these groups, please feel free to do so. All the information you need is right here.

The Faktors
Type: Political Activists
Leader: Ribateau
Race Card: Robots
Status: Hostile
Threat Level: Nil.
Stomping Ground: Aekea, North-East Sector
Details: Everybody laughed when The Faktori opened and Ribateau expressed his disdain for human-kind, but after a rash of small-appliance abductions people started to- actually no, they still laughed. Ribateau's plans are quirky and often more of an annoyance than a danger, but with him in control of the Electric Love Faktori and a recent rash of car-thefts, this little group is becoming a thorn in the neighborhood's side.

The Bodysnatchers
Type: Slave Traffickers.
Leader: (Aekea) ???, (Durem) ???, (Gambino) ???, (Barton) ???
Race Card: Dopplegangers and Fey.
Threat Level: Moderate, but the android knocked off several elites.
Status: Mad, but not attacking outright
Stomping Ground: Central Aekea
Details: This group preys frequently on attractive women and young males, using a variety of techniques from simple trickery on the naive to straight-up assault and abduction. They prefer Anthro's and those with lower-level magic abilities, and typically avoid blood-suckers and carnivores. Slaves captured by the Snatchers usually end up at auction here in Aekea and are then sent off to their masters in Gaia's other cities.

The Von Helsons
Type: Forgery Syndicate
Leader: (Local) "Jay" (National) Louie Von Helson
Race Card: Vampire, but they work easily with humans and other demons.
Status: Wary, but not out-right hostile.
Threat Level: Big, don't piss 'em off.
Stomping Ground: A foot-hold in the South-West Sector.
Details: If the government prints it, VH can copy it. It takes money to run a Vampire Nation and the Head Family specializes in forgeries, falsehoods and doctoring. Anything from licence plates and passports to building permits and birth-certificates can be purchased from the Von Helsons, for a price at least.

The Hackers
Type: Chop-Shop
Leader: Liam
Race Card:
Status: Hostile.
Threat Level: Moderate.
Stomping Ground: Aekea's South Half
Details: The status with the Hackers is the owner's own fault, but damn it he really liked that car and watching it get dragged off in pieces demanded retribution. The Hackers are a chop-shop ring: not too big but not too small either. If it has a motor they'll take a stab at it, sell it off as scrap or use the pieces for their own vehicles. They work closely with the local drug cartels as runners and delivery boys, and along with The Embargo they have bad 'blood' with the Faktors.

*Lazarous & Company*
Type: An actual company dealing in gaining back financial losses by any means necessary. Can be hired as mercenaries and long term bouncers.
A security team in short.
Leader: Lazarus Monstrak
Race Card: Magical beings such as Erklings or Fey. Many members are bio-humanoid or mechanically enhanced. Techno-mancers, necromancers, and other form of magical crafters dwell among the ranks of Lazarus & Co.
Status: Friendly?
Threat Level:Extremely dangerous.
Stomping Ground: No known location of whereabouts or centralized base.
Details: Lazarus & Company is a shadow program. Don't expect to gain alot of information, and watch those questions.
Some things just shouldn't be questioned...

Alliance Deal: A straight-up business transaction, The Embargo pays for L&Co's services.

The O-Gengi
Type: "Yukaza"
Leader: (local) ???, (Durem) ???
Race Card: Human, but they contract out to anyone with the skills to get things done.
Status: Hostile against everyone.
Threat Level: Ant, meet Elephant. Elephant, sneeze on ant.
Stomping Ground: Creeping in from the West.
Details: The O-Gengi cartel are the new kids in town, but they're far from the weakest link. This cartel dominates the black market in Durem and has usually kept itself solely in the sale and distribution of prescription and recreational drugs. Recently, however, with their latest break into Aekea, the Cartel has been expanding into all other areas: Slaves, Forgeries, Money Laundering, you name it, and shoving the competition to the side. They've effectively pissed off everybody in Aekea, and with their HQ located a stones throw from VH's Honcho, the violence in Durem has been hitting news stands nation wide.

A Closer Look: Despite their proficiency in the Black Market, the O-Gengi as individuals are frustrating to deal with. They don't seem to know if they're Japanese, Chinese or Thai, their Tea House in Durem is filled with silk flowers and suffocating incense, their Yukaza-style tattoos are gaudy at best and why the hell does everyone think the Katana is so frickin' cool? O-Gengi dogs are typified by their red-hilted Katanas and a gag-reflex which spits out words like "Bushido" and "Like the lotus blossom". Sad thing is, they actually know how to fight.

The Rules & FYIs

I'd appreciate at least one paragraph, please. Less is fine if you're brain dead.
Just because I'm offline doesn't mean Mary and Agatha are gone. The NPCs are always present.
Not even Employees can just grab stuff from behind the bar. You must pay for what you take.
Romance, Violence and Drama make CoG a happy panda, why else would this be set up in the middle of a turf war?
The owners do not like Vampires, ergo Vampire Patrons must be invited into the building, either by the Owners or the employees. This is an age-old rule of Dracula's ilk and will be upheld here.
Because people seem to want clarification, it is extremely EASY to get permission IC. Just walk up and don't look too hungry.

Nothing in this building regenerates. Please check the first post for any exploded walls or fire-damage.
The standard currency in this thread is the Gaian Dollar (GD), however gold coins and other currencies are accepted, so long as they could be reasonably used in other locations. If you have Galactic Credits from some space federation no one's heard of, find something else to trade.
Do not magic things into the building such as exotic drinks or flashy equipment. When there's money for it, the owners'll buy/build it.
Feel free to suggest job positions or additional features.
There are no beds so don't bother requesting a room, an inn/motel feature may be added later, but the property would have to be a bit bigger.
I list wages 'cause they're going to go up, I also list them because employees aren't working for room and board, so you might as well know what kind of cash your character is earning.
Event Status will be updated in the first page and reminders added to the title. There are several factions so there will be plenty of event opportunities.
For the sake of making money, during operating hours the Embargo is never 'empty' and will always have several background, NPC-style patrons mulling about. Otherwise there's no way we'll make the kinda cash necessary to sustain a business.

Current Plot Arc

July:
The 24th-
As a new business, the Embargo already has good relations with the local human trafficker's the Bodysnatchers. Our basement is being used to house unfortunate shipments of young women, some children, and a few men.

The 28th-
Bodysnitches are probably to blame for the slaughter that took place on the Embargo floor. A gun-totting Assassin-Mercenary-Bot claiming to work for the GPD not only called us on working with the slavers, but started shooting up the place looking for anyone who fit his hit-list descriptions. To stop the damage from going and further, the Slavers on-site were killed by the owner.

The GPD connection could be a bluff, but even the Faktors aren't stupid enough to send such a blatantly mechanical hit-man into the bar, are they?.

Extra Announcements

Multi-Thread Event, Brought to you by Anzu Minea.

A strange woman's put a Bounty out on Kastraliss for One Million Dollars! But this isn't a point-and-shoot affair, and Miss Feh won't pay out to anyone who brings the Necromancer in dead or dying. "Do not maim, do not kill" are the rules of the game.

The job was given to The Yard to bring their members into The Embargo. Whoever succeeds in captureing the necromancer will then have to deliver him to the Montagne Hot Spring Resort located three hours north of Durem in the mountains.

There is also some activity from the Rock Fist Guild, so they get a link too for playing along.
Let's Talk
The sun was still a few hours from setting, but that didn't mean they couldn't get a jump on the evening crowd. It took smarts to open a business, and even one like this needed to be savvy about when people got off work and where they'd wanna spend their money.

It was a simple combination: clean location, cheap booze, and pretty girls. Actually it was probably just the booze and chicks.

At least that's what Nova thought.

Whistling as three deadbolts were drawn back, then the pad-lock was removed from the cage-like gate over the front door, half The Embargo's Management was whistling as he opened up, flicking on the switch that set the yellow neon sign over the door a-glow. The place was clean and had lost that noxious fresh-paint stink, and it was time to bring in some customers and make a bit of cash.

His partner? He was off doing the fun stuff, standing out back in the lingering summer heat doing business with their new friends on the block. Nova didn't intend to go anywhere near the basement till the current shipment had moved out, he'd already seen the stacked cages and freaked out looking slaves, but that wasn't his business. They were being paid to house some goods, and with a pile of bills to pay it was welcome cash. Blood money, black money, didn't matter: it was all cold hard currency.
In the late evening sun a woman would be walking down the road in the industrial sector fiddling with an odd object in the palm of her left hand while absentmindedly talking to in all appearances...herself

"Drat, now how did that other guy do it....let's see....no...not that way...maybe if I...no...that's not it either...but what if I try?"

She would say as her feet would guide her down the path, without giving any indication that she knew where she was going or even where she currently was the woman would turn and walk through the newly opened gate and past the man that had just opened it. She would be an odd woman dressed in what would appear to be an all black traveling outfit, she would have on a black wide rim hat with an odd feather sticking out of it, a black cloak that would cover a black shirt, black pants with a wide black belt that in addition to holding up her pants would hold a multitude of pouches, on her feet would be a pair of comfortable boots made of soft leather that would barely make a sound as she would walk, also hanging off her belt the woman would have a grey metallic rod hanging off the left side and a custom long barrel CZ-75T .40mm tactical pistol. Anyone versed in the arts of magic would probably be able to sense that she was either magical herself or in possession of magic. Others might also note that this woman would seem to have no scent as if she was incapable of producing one or something else was masking it entirely.
Looking up from where he'd just dumped a glass of water on the poor plant outside that he'd completely forgotten about, the platinum-haired proprietor would give a smirk as the cloaked woman entered through the front door with what he guessed was a cell in her hand. She was completely engrossed in whatever she was fiddling with, so Nova didn't get in her way as she breezed past him. Though he liked to think that that was a hefty feat most of the time.

At an easy six feet in height and a solid 200-pounds of muscle and bone, it was easy to tell who would be checking the bouncers' qualifications once they actually had the cash flow to pay for one. The black slacks and white shirt shouldn't have taken away from his appearance; yeah, he wasn't armed right now or even wearing body armor like he normally did when out and about, but there was a pair of steel-backed gloves hanging off his belt in easy reach if needed, and his combat boots came equipped with steel toes and heels. His partner'd given him some s**t about nicking the floors with them, but Nova wasn't a graceless oaf: if they had to deal with a fight there'd be worse than scuffed floors to worry about.

"Trouble getting a signal, miss?" He asked, sounding amiable but trying to keep the smile from entering his voice. Yeah, he was excited; they'd been planning and paying for this thing for months now, getting it together and their first customer felt damn good.

"Agatha, can yo-" Oh, crap, where was she? Looking over to the bar as he spoke, Nova blinked his green eyes twice as he couldn't see the stoic woman standing there like she had been a few minutes earlier. But she wasn't allowed to just walk off, so where had she- oh nevermind. He could pour a simple drink.
