Claws tore bits of flesh and meat as each was steadily pried up. Violets studied the vampire's face, and it wasn't until that hand pushed firmly enough against his chest that he'd ascertained Khaldun might just have enough strength to handle it. Had there been enough of that poison to affect his reflexes? Time for a test. Long fingers opened like the maw of a crocodile to snare the hand picking at his digits and tug it behind the vampire's back in a sturdy hold. Wet, sticky, warm with stolen blood.

"Then do let me tuck you in."

The hand that'd been swatted away came back up, intending to capture that wrist as well and force it back with the other. Already cells began to cluster from the raven's own body, snaking serpentine to try and cuff the two wrists together as he stepped forward. The point? to try and push the vampire back so he'd be more focused on regaining footing than freeing his arms. If he fell, Karasu was fully prepared to catch him.

From the kitchen, a song from a certain baker's phone began to play. It was just loud enough to provide the background music for the two in the bar.

        ________ Pushy, pushy.

Perhaps Khaldun could have pulled off some amazing feat of dexterity and skill to escape the raven's trick trap, but truth be told, he wasn't sure he really wanted to. The dear bird wanted something badly enough in return for the blood and ... oh, was that music? Coming from the kitchen? Khaldun stumbled backwards when he had glanced towards the kitchen door, and it was always much more difficult to keep ones balance when their hands were bound behind ones back. He managed, barely, to stay upright. This vampire could dance, even when inebriated on toxins.

His voice dropped close to a whisper, guessing by the music playing that they weren't alone at all, and sickly smile oozed across his features, black eyes darting across the room as they were sharing some kind of wondrous secret.
"Mmm, explosive, isn't it? I'd likely lose my hands, just like that poor lush of a girl who you gifted with a bracelet, no?"
Again Khaldun chuckled, but it was thick and slow. What should have killed him outright was doing a very delightful number on him. There was no quick recovery to this certain kind of damage, as his greedy body had spread the blood freely, and he was still slowly folding under as his regenerative powers rushed to catch up. It would take time to dilute the effects of the poison, time that Khaldun didn't have here.

Now he was just slipping to the floor, of course, unless Karasu was going to catch him still. And even as Khaldun was half out of his mind while it began to shutdown, requiring him to stop and desist at last, his voice was the last thing to go.
"You could always ask me to stay the morning, my dear avian friend. The last, oh, the absolutely last thing I could wish to do is to make you angry with me. That is why I ask to leave, before I make myself a boorish and bothersome guest."

"I hope you don't mind too much, if you would just tuck me in somewhere after all?"
And there he went, systems going dark, and for all it seemed Khaldun had been reduced to a life-sized mannequin, or perhaps a corpse was just as apt a word for it, finally succumbing to the poison.

Curiouser and curiouser, indeed.

The vampire was caught mid-fall, scooped up quite easily. The smile was wide behind that mask, both pleased at Khaldun's cleverness and the fact that the raven now had the treasure he'd gone for. With some pep to his step and whistling to the tune coming from the kitchen, he proceeded on upstairs to one of the crappy, empty rooms. The vampire was dropped unceremoniously on the mattress and his shoes removed to be set aside. Next, the tattered suit peeled off, and a moment was taken to admire the damage done. Bloody, sticky, quite pretty.

He'd allowed the pale fellow to keep his pants on, but that was about it. Blinds were drawn, as he had no idea whether Khaldun might turn to ash or some such should he be the stuff of legends. Reclining and dwarfing the bed, the undead doll was dragged into lap, head resting against chest and hair sifted through absently.

Fun to be had. The 'cuffs' had been removed; no point risking too much tugging during sleep and, yes, having him lose his hands.

But the poor vamp would certainly find himself with a very large bird all sorts of snuggly in the morning, and that might've been far worse.

And Ran was still sitting against the great mana tree beneath the streets. Sleeping. Starving, likely, since there was no reason to leave the paradise. The tree emanated the absence of suffering, so for one whose life had been defined in degrees of agony, it was a welcome-- rather permanent-- respite.

Why hadn't he tried this sooner.

It was time like these that Erin wished life came with a set of instructions in order to attain what most would call a Happy Ending.

That, or a benevolent force that would somehow lead her on the correct path.

A family that didn't want to kill everything in sight just because it was slightly different. A home where she could actually find some peace and quiet before jumping back into the chaos of the world. Maybe even a set goal to work towards. Friends. Those would be nice. Someone to talk to and laugh with, to hold.

Grabbing a fist-sized rock, the redhead heaved into the relatively still water before her.

Erin sighed, head falling forward and arms limp at her sides. But no, she was stuck in an underground grotto. There'd been no indication of movement over the last few days. Her birthday had come and gone with no one to celebrate it with. She remained still for as long as she could bear the cold, hard ground beneath her, but eventually she had to stand up. Her knapsack would be picked up and Erin would turn around, teal hues settling on the entrance to the tunnel that would lead her back to the giant tree.

Life. Sucked.

Cefix Usui - Roaming the city streets

The sound of homemade wind chimes echoed through the street. It was an eerie sound in neighbourhoods that had long since been abandoned. Without a breeze, the sound still continued. With some careful listening, it sounded like more than one chime. Many chimes, in fact. With some careful listening, one might think it was... moving.

The sound of boots over rubble was almost lost under the melodic noise. Someone walked the ruinous streets. An achromatic shadow slipping amongst the tree trunks. Where it passed through the odd flash of light, there was no colour to define it. Its movements were unnaturally even, like a hologram painted onto the environment rather than a fallible humanoid. Light glinted after it.

The oddest sorts found their way to the city when it fell to ruin. There was not only loot to be found. Colorless eyes watched the woods in scrutiny. A person. It was a person, with short black hair and almost no tone to their skin or eyes. They were draped in a cloak, so that their body and gender was hidden away, but the features had a certain delicacy to them. Like glass. Sharp when broken assuredly. Looking at them, one might have missed the trinkets on their back. A bow and an empty quiver were strapped over the cloak for easy access.

And of course. Chiming. Shards clinking against one another. The person themself rather uninteresting, eyes were naturally drawn behind them. Glinting. A veritable parade of glass. Thousands upon thousands of shards of glass trailed behind her. Where the buildings fell apart, it seemed this person had swept through the city and swept up the shards, not unlike a magnet with iron shavings. They followed behind the cloaked figure like an odd rendition of the pied piper.

They gave no glance to the large holes in the street, the peculiar ruins below. They merely skirted around them with an agile gait. The stride of someone used to the forest, and toting impeccable, almost inhuman discipline. They did not speak, but they made no effort to hide either. The trail of glass was certainly eye-catching. They might have passed almost over a certain red head, resting only a moment on the edge of a chasm above her cavern.

User ImageThe young man wasn't sure how long he'd been walking the streets of this city, looking for some clue as to what happened here. But here he was, his dirty white sneakers with the laces removed pattering on the pavement along with the wooden pole he used as a walking staff.

One leg stepped in front of the other, clad in faded blue jeans with holes in the knees. The fingers of his left hand grasped his wooden pole, the other idly hanging onto the strap of his duffle bag. Bandages on each knuckle spelled out 'ZERO LUCK', while the dogtags hanging from his neck clearly marked him as having military experience.

He found a good spot that looked to be the center of the city. This might be a good spot to use it. He could've used it anywhere in the city to find out what truly happened here, but that would tire him out if he just walked around using it. The epicenter would likely give the most information.

Reaching up with his right hand, the young man pulled his bangs away from his right eye. His right eye slowly opened, revealing that though his left eye was a deep yellow, his right eye was a deep blue. After a moment, the iris slightly glowed, showing his ability was active.

Immediately, ghostly apparitions appeared before his very eyes, memories of the people who had once lived here before the evacuation. This was his curse. The Blue Eye of Hindsight allowed him to view past events, whether they be just a few minutes ago, several months ago, or even a year or two ago.

Judging from the panicking of people of days gone by, Ents attacked the city with little provocation. Most had been defeated, meaning most of these fallen trees were actually Ent bodies. But these odd white roots had sprouted from below ground during the Ents' invasion. He'd have to find some way down there if he wanted the truth behind this city's annihilation.

Utterly oblivious to just who was passing through the remains of the city above her head, Erin stretched her arms up over her head.

So much for stepping back out into the city. Her stomach had other things in mind, like perhaps getting some food to fill it and finally quell it's incessant grumbling. It wasn't like anyone would be around to witness the act.

Pulling the filthy hoodie she'd been wearing off, she tossed it to the side and then slipped out of her jeans, leaving her in the swimsuit she usually wore underneath her clothes. With the ocean so close and her particular set of abilities, it was the only logical thing to do, considering how much street clothes would weigh her down and how little she favored the idea of going naked.

A small prayer was offered to any deities of the ocean that cared to listen and then Erin was off.

Splash! Into the water and down, swiftly descending and entering the kelp forest that harbored the fish that would be her prey. In the water, she was nothing more than another predator. And she would have her meal.

Krya walked the streets, not really sure where she was going. It was a new city, a new life. The woman had not stayed in the same place for years now, not since she was skilled enough to snitch food without getting caught. Soon, it turned into finding odd jobs. The longest she stayed was a year, getting a little too comfortable. But as always, she found herself moving on again. It suited her well enough. Commitment scared her, even commitment to one location, home, job - or even piece of clothing. It was a character flaw.

But she fed herself, and she made due well enough. Today her clothing was simple, and monotone in colour. Her shoes were black boots, flat-footed and ending about half way down up her calves. They were made of black, soft leather. Thick tights tucked into them, hugging her legs. They kept her legs warm and allowed easy movement. Under her open jacket was a loose-fitting top, long sleeves and a thin flowing fabric, the next was open, and bared her collar bones when her jacket was off. The jacket was black leather, and simple. Nothing on it but a simple silver zipper and two pockets, which her hands were tucked into.

The ruby hair woman found herself dodging foliage, abandoned branches and leaves. Sometimes a full tree, that looked a little more unusual than a tree. Though, it didn't seem to end any alarms off. Lips a few shades darker than her hair were thinned in contemplation as she unconsciously moved towards the city centre. Whether truly wandering aimlessly, or drawn towards life forms without her knowledge, the young woman found herself entering what was known by people familiar with the city as the city square.

User ImageNow, how to get below ground... The pavement was too hard to dig with a shovel, and he'd rather not use a jackhammer. Heavy machinery tended to bother Tanuko. The sewers, maybe?

The young man wandered down the street, left hand using his wooden pole as a walking staff, the other wrapped around his chin in thought. He'd have to find someway down there if he wanted to get to the bottom of this...

So deep in thought as he left the town square, the young man didn't notice the young woman he was walking towards, already set on a collision course.

The woman was distracted also, trying to puzzle out what had happened in this area. While all cities had their uniqueness, and problems, this one was a bit new to her. She had never seen anything like this before. A hand came out of her snug jacket, pushing back the red strands of her hair from her face. Bangs were a little long, and tended to fall across the girl's eyes easily. Kyra toyed with the thought of getting her hair done, but she knew nothing of the city at the moment. Chances were she would just take a pair of scissors and shear her own hair. Cheaper and easier.

Booted feet carried her around a corner, and nearly into a young man. Fortunately Kyra was aware enough to dodge the male instead of walking straight into him. However, she was unable to get herself completely free and a foot caught the walking staff in his hand. It caused the girl to stumble to her left, left hand flying out hopefully catch her fall as the cement sidewalks rose up to meet her.

"Hey...!"

The surprised word escaped from her lips, revealing a soft voice.

Erin returned.

Gripping four dead halibut by the tail fins in one hand and her dagger in the other, the redhead pulled herself back onto the rocky floor of the grotto by her elbows. Setting aside three of the fish, to be saved for a later time, and possibly cooked, Erin immediately set to devouring the meal. If anyone had been watching, and the girl quickly checked to see that no one was, they may have noticed her teeth grow slightly sharper as she ate.

That much more predatory. That much more inhuman.

And then she was finished. Teeth back to normal and stomach sated for the time being. Using the water from the sea, Erin washed herself clean of the blood that had gotten all over her face. It saddened her to know how messy of an eater she was when she got as hungry as she had been. She stood up, collecting the remaining fish and walking over to her bag.

Not quite ready to slip into the raggedy clothes she'd been wearing before, the hoodie and jeans would be placed inside. Sword summoned, in case certain baddies occupied the tunnels during her time in the grotto.

Time to return to the surface, which meant a journey back to the tree.

User ImageThe young man hadn't even noticed the woman until he felt his wooden pole snag on something and fall from his hand. He turned to see a girl falling right next to him. Oops. Did he do that?

Acting fast, the young man jumped forward and dove to catch her, arms wrapping around her back to hold her bent over. But with inertia and his limited strength, he couldn't hold her up for long. So giving his wooden pole a small nude with his foot so it rolled below them, he spoke, revealing a low voice and mellow tone.

"Tanuko, mattress!"

A poof of harmless white smoke surrounded the young man's fallen pole, and when the smoke cleared, it wasn't a wooden pole anymore. It was a fairly comfortable looking mattress, which he allowed the both of them to fall on to with a thud, but a soft landing.

Unfortunately, he had fallen in a rather compromising position, with his face buried in the young woman's chest. He was in trouble, depending on how forgiving this girl was.

Surprises all around, it seemed. Kyra did not have much time to process the situation before she found herself in a rather embarrassing situation. Laying on a... mattress?

"Gah!"

Arms reaching out, she pushed on this mans shoulders. She wiggled out rom underneath him, crab walking backwards until she stumbled on cement. Her hands ended up a little scrapped, but not enough to draw any blood. It was a much nicer stumble than would have ended out of the last trip if not for the male that had caught her. Though, she found mixed feelings stirring in her chest - appreciation, embarrassment and anger.

"What the..."

Kyra trailed off, her eyes narrowing in anger. However the deep blush that had turned her face a colour very close to the colour of her hair diminished the attempt at anger. Kyra was a sweet girl, and not very prone to anger. At this point, her brain was already working towards reminding herself that it highly unlikely that the situation was intentional.

Pushing forward, the girl tucked her legs under her body, sitting on them a little. Her upper body leaned forward as she poked the mattress, wondering where it came from. It certainly was not there a moment before. She had never seen powers like that before, and it made her curious. Actually, it distracted from the man that was currently on it. Kyra noticed him a few seconds later, eyes widening and the blush making sure it stayed on her face.
