Sparkles can be deactivated from your settings page, on the bottom left below what images you allow.

Craft glitter is pernicious. Ever spilled some on anything? You'll be finding sparkly bits for months.

unrelated: I want a duckling item where the ducklings actually look like real ducklings. Or at least where some of them are girls. Maybe Gaia is kind of weird like that: we have saltwater trout, and all mallards have green heads regardless of sex.
