Here's an Idea as to how the beard came about and why it is consuming only guys so far.

Hey sorry if this has already been said, but this theory just popped out at me.
When Timmy was thrown into the barrel a parasite already living in his brain(after being dragged through the jungle with Dr.Singh who is to be surprised.) was mutated. The Parasite began its mutation in Timmy's head growing and eating off the nutrients in Timmy's brain causing Timmy' to go mad and attack Dr.Singh biting her arm. The parasite growing into self consciousness climbed into Dr.Singh and took control of her brain and Timmy's.

Gene had been fired from his job and once he heard of Dr.Singh and Timmy's case at once realized what was happening and headed over to capture the parasite and use the discovery to regain his job. After Gene had removed the parasite he put it into a small dog cage and put Dr.Singh and Timmy back together again. The parasite, now intelligent enough to escape the cage made a run for it.

Timmy after the whole situation had a mental breakdown due to the parasite that had been eating off of his brain the past couple of weeks while Dr.Singh who hadn't been exposed that long only had a slight head-ache.

Meanwhile the parasite continued to evolve into a furry beard looking creature and decided to take host on the already weak minded Timmy. From there the parasite split into two to take over Gene next. Noticing that most females do not have a beard the parasite geniusly placed his next offspring onto Dr.Singh armpit! Soon all will fall to the great parasite and have a large amount of facial or armpit hair! And when every gaian has been affected they will evolve once again to fully cover us all and then devour us all!

From there the zurg will notice one of them has a weird looking beard and has taken a sudden like to smooth jazz.
(Why does those infected like smooth jazz and such? Well the parasite does I mean who doesnt?)

I wonder if somehow, evil Timmy switched places with Timmy back when he disappeared.

Really, that would make sense... Explains why he was found in Gene's lab anyway. Maybe the real, mentally-scarred Timmy is just hiding in some empty shop in Durem... crying

gonk Ah, I hope, if that's the case, at least he's somewhere safe and warm... with food xD

But that doesn't explain Gene.... T___T

Maybe he can duplicate himself!

Or maybe it IS the real Timmy, and evil Timmy is still out there. He may have bitten and infected the real Timmy again. Also, if the Evil Timmy was hiding out in Gene's lab, maybe he bit Gene, then took off, leading Gene to the real Timmy, and hid.
Timmy was crazy at that point, so maybe Gene didn't believe him and thought nothing of the bite.
