Well, I've spent a lot of time arguing about the purpose of sex, but I don't think we're getting anywhere, so I'll pull down to the question that really matters to me:

Even assuming that sex is in fact meant to make babies, why should I care? Lips were made for eating, not for kissing, but that doesn't mean that kissing is wrong.

No, and I agree with you for that reason (my analogy was with thumbs).

I just don't think the 'failure rate' is a good argument.
Curiousity is killing me... I was wondering how old a man has to be before he can get a vasectomy, and what its failure rate is. Anyone know?

And Romania.

It outlawed abortion and protection too.

And the point of that was? God those ppl are stupid...let me have a look a the abortion laws chart.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/2/29/AbortionLawsMap.png

*reads*

Either Romania is brown (illegal with exception for rape, maternal health and defects) or this chart is out of date. Which? confused

So, for the yellow/brown ones on that chart, you basically have to prove that you can't take care of the baby in order to get an abortion?

The loophole for getting an abortion where I live (England) is basically 'mental health of the mother'. So, um, yes. You're right.

Though because of my epilepsy I have a natural get-out-of-pregnancy-free card, it also means that potentially I could spazz while in flagrante delicto. Not nice for all parties concerened. xp

Are there some men who should NOT have a vasectomy? Frankly, yes. You may regret having the procedure if you are too young at the time of your decision. Generally, there is no minimum age requirement except that you must be an adult. Common sense, however, suggests that "older is wiser."

As for the failure rate - what do you mean? They're basically cutting off and tying off the seminal tube thingies; there's no way he's going to make someone pregnant after that.

Edit - I remember from a medical 'life and times' show or something that the reversal of a vasectomy only works 25% of the time.
ie A guy's relationship changes unexpectedly and drastically and he wants to have kids - chances are 3 in 4 that he's gonna have to go to a sperm bank.

There is a failure rate for every form of protection.

And... how sexist of them. They figure men can make the decision on their own, yet, for women, it's "no getting your tubes tied until you're over 35 because you could change your mind!".

Well, few women are going to carry a baby for someone else.

If you ask me, I'll donate my sperm to your family right now.

Then again, if you get a fallopiectomy (is that the word?) I guess you could probably still carry a baby...

edit - abstinence only fails in case of rape, right?

Or if a woman gets sperm in her through something other than sex.

I'm also considering if having sex is by definition is a failure of abstinence.

I'm also considering if having sex is by definition is a failure of abstinence.

But I mean abstinence in the strictest sense - I don't even know any women who think I'm attractive except those already in committed relationships, much less do I see even them often enough to even consider them more than acquaintances...

...but if a couple decides they will be abstinent, then ends up saying 'ok, maybe some foreplay is OK' in the heat of the moment, I guess that could be considered failure of abstinence.

It'd be hard to get statistics on that, though. "[O] Check this box if you were planning not to have sex but ended up getting pregnant instead."

There have been instinces where a vasectomy revered on its own.

Really? Do you have a source? Or at least a figure? I guess that could be considered a failure.
An extremely small failure rate, I would guess.
I belive abortion is wrong, unless there is certain cercumstances. If the baby has a deformation beyond fix that will make their life misserable the rest of their life, then yes it is right. A child wouldn't want to live paralyzed all over the body, unable to eat, drink etc. on his/her own. Now it a high school teen got pregnant and she wantsan sbortion then it's just not right. It was her own damn faught for ******** someone and getting pregnant. She needs to take care of her baby. If the parents won't except the baby into their home, atleast find the child a good home.

Cause the potential life of a fetus is worth more than the future of a "pregnant slut teen" mother right?
