calling sex a "need" is idiotic. food is a need. we DIE without food. sleep is a need. we DIE without sleep, we must sleep. we need warmth. we DIE without warmth. we need air. we DIE without air. we need shelter, unless you live in a warm, stormless area, or else you DIE. you will not die without sex, it is not a need, but a frivolity that has gotten a bit too important on the minds of the corrupt.
Did we not read clearly what was said?
In Social Animals Sex is a need as it forges *LE GASP* Social interaction.
Take primates (chimps who share at leats 98% of our genes) have sex for fun and to be social, they even have lesbian sex, they masturbate too.
Why do they do this? Because looking for flees on each other isn't enough, so if you're down have some sex.
It releases an overwhelming amount of natural happy hormones, Serotonin and Dopamine and a whole range of other natural high feel-goods.
Do you know what lowered levels of serotonin does to the human body? It pushes it into clinical depression (Not the boohoo sad for me, but actual depression) what does depression cause? A whole range of physical sympoms show up, insomnia, head aches, tension in shoulders and neck, bad stomach, and more.
Sex as said before in this long post is also done for social interaction, when you share something which you deem important with the one closest to you, you feel connected to them in a great way, sure you can have sex both as a stress release and as a way to forge connections.
Now see, sex has become a need. Why is it a physical need? Because it has to do with the body and it's natural chemistry.
Ahh but then does a monkey terminate it's children if when partaking in this "social interaction results in child? No. And while we're on the subject, you can produce certain amounts of dopamine and serotonin by smiling. So there are ways to produce it other than "doing the nasty". Which kind of blows the theory of it being a need to hell. And If we did need it how do you explain monks or nuns?
O and before you argue that monkeys don't abort because they're monkeys, and therefore lack the higher thought to do so remember also you justified you actions with thier own. You can't have it both ways.
Are you saying that a person can't have both biological wants and needs and also intelligent thought?
Sex is something that most humans crave, it is a physical and mental "need" at a certain stage of human developement, in the same way that social contact and verbal stimulation are "needs" at stages of human developement. There is a certain maturity and understanding that comes along with sex, along with different emotional and chemical responses that really cannot be achieved in any other way.
Abortion is a solution to the problem of unwanted pregnancy. Humans have practiced abortion in one form or another for much longer than written human history extends. The ancient Egyptions had a herbal abortion. I think that plant was Rue, is that right?
How does that fact that both humans and monkeys crave sex for social and bond reasons negate abortion? Humans are overpopulated, and in no danger of dying out anytime soon. Personally, I feel that abortion is a responsible choice for many women to make.
