Arguing about pronunciations. Lol.

My Spanish professor who was born and raised in Guatemala with Spanish as her first language pronounced "Que" -> "Kay" and "Queso" -> "Kayso."

Here's a quick question: what dialect of Spanish do you speak? What accent are you referencing? Just like in English we don't all pronounce "Tomato" the same. Dialects can heavily effect the way one speaks.

Seeing as I know many native Spanish speakers who pronounce it "Kayso" I feel like you're more just being an elitist than considering the fact that it's probably a dialect difference present in Spanish itself.

Little hostile there, haha. I mean if that's really the route you want to go we could start bringing up and making fun of all the ways native Spanish speakers butcher English words. razz

Again, I've provided examples that if you are unable to hear the "ey" in it's no lack on my part. Haha.

at least we try to pronounce them correctly, americans just pronounce it however they ******** like without giving a care in the word and they get angry as this thread proves when corrected

Again, in this example it's clearly pronounced with an "ey" in it.

To say "No one pronounces it this way" is obviously wrong.

Ahahaha, that's funny because you're the one who got all defensive and salty. XD

Listen, just because you are so used to hearing it "kehso" that you can't audibly hear they are saying "kayso" in those commercials I posted is a you problem, not a "white people" problem.

It's really funny to how it was super civil between what I was saying till you commented.
Like, get over yourself. And maybe if you got your head out of your rear you'd think maybe that those streets go both ways. I know plenty of white people who cared about saying things correctly in other languages, and plenty of people who either didn't actually want to learn English or it was there second language who didn't care about saying words correctly.

This narrative is so tired and old.

She certainly stresses the "k" sound at the start more, which makes it sound different, but I still see many examples with a softer "k" sound but still an "ay" after it.

Like, I've been listening to examples since I first posted in here (I get bored at work between calls...) and I'm still hearing it both ways.

Spain and Argentina seem to say "kayso" more commonly, and Mexico "Kehso" more nearly exclusively from all the examples I've listened to of speakers from different areas.

Here is an outside site that provides many examples (with where they are from and their gender) saying the word: https://forvo.com/word/queso/

This is one of the sources I've been referencing last. Males from Argentina almost exclusively pronounce it "kayso" from what I am hearing.

Again, the stress is not on the "k" sound like the girl in the video you shared, but even then to make the claim that a slightly odd stress on a sound in a word makes it "all white people don't even care about pronouncing a word correctly" is a pretty... radical... claim.

P.S. Shut up, no one cares if we don't pronounce Queso properly, we speak English, because you know...we're white Americans. Imbecile.

Did you manage to miss the part where I mentioned White Americans? I'll say what I damn well please, in whatever way I damn well please, when i damn well feel like it. That's the beauty of being a free man. I can pronounce your precious language (THAT ISNT EVEN YOUR'S AND BELONGS TO WHITE SPANIARDS) completely backasswards, and all the crying about "All White people" will never change a thing.

Because we're an arrogant and ignorant, and if you've ever hear the current US President speak he is the poster boy for mispronunciation (and being arrogant and ignorant).

interesting that a white person would think they know spanish better than a native speaker
but then again
only white people would have the nerve

your belligerent racism aside, you do know that there's various takes on Spanish, even within Spain, right?
If you're going to be ignorant and say "we speak English in America", please realize that
1) America constitutes North and South America, which houses a myriad of languages
2) US doesn't even have an official language, and as such, laws require official documents to be printed in multiple languages to accommodate the varied residents of a state
3) you're free to do whatever you want (within law), but that doesn't make you any less of a dipshit, dude.

it's ok if you'd rather be wrong, I guess, but it's hilarious how defensive you are about it
