How to drive a truck
Start by leaving house clueless, then find out that the Pavillion just
let out a concert as you were leaving the house. Cars everywhere and
its 11pm! Oops a car just took the space needed to stop at the light,
maybe he dosen't see me? Kick on the high beams to let him know I am
back here. Yep, that worked he moved back out of the way, hmm should I
leave them on untill I get to Tucson?
Get onto freeway only to find that they are doing construction and
have it down to 1 lane, course missed the easy exit and have to fight
my way off. Get down to Buckeye Rd to find that the railroad signal has
malfunctioned effectively closing that street too. Hang a right and go
down to Lower Buckeye, mosey on down a bit then back up to Buckeye.
WOW! that pickup sure didn't want to stay behind me, he nearly took
off my bumper passing me in the oncoming lane while I was in the left
turn!
Get back out to freeway and make it to Eloy for fuel and a drink
refill. Give the cashier a flabbergasted look for the price of $1.65
for a thermos of hot water to make tea!
Back on the road heading east, to find out that roads is working out
here also in 2 places between me and my reciever, groan, I only had 2
hours to drive on and your telling me that I have to wait?
Make it to the reciever to find that there is no parking anywhere
nearby. Wait!, there is a dirt lot over there, I can park there.... I
hope. Make it into the lot only to find that the exit is going to be
harder as it goes the wrong way for where I want to go. Well, too tired
to think logically, may as well hit the sack and hope nobody messes
with my stuff. Alarm rings too soon, groan, I must have set the wrong
time, look at clock, nope it says 6 am. But it was only 3 am when I got
to sleep, I still have to get 5 more hours!
Pull into the street but still facing the wrong way... Oh well, I'll
just throw it into reverse, turn on my hazards and see if I can hit any
cars who think they can stop a backing truck by parking under the
numper. Nope, no takers on the challenge. Made it to the gate, now I
can pull foward into the gate to get unloaded.
Hmm the tarps look kinda funny, I wonder how bad the load shifted on
that hard braking I had to do back in Phoenix? Tarps off, not too bad,
only a few inches. Ok now empty, and they say go home, we don't have
any loads for you at this time. And I wonder why I like this torture
pit of a job?
