You're quite welcome, Mokoni. Your status sounded like you were having a crappy time, so I figured I'd be a little nice. biggrin

Apparently, my "promotion" to General Merchandise Manager from Customer Service Manager means that I can't apply for another position for 18-24 months from the start date (this past April). This was not explained to me when I got the job, nor was I really given a choice in the matter. They never once asked me "Do you want this promotion?" It was pretty much a "We're giving you this promotion." So that really doesn't seem fair at all, but what do I know.

This is the second time they've managed to trap me at the store, beyond the initial 18-month wait from when I first started. I am not happy at all. We'll have to see if the store gets better under the new manager, or else I'll be looking for a different place to work entirely, and my 12 years with the company will be over.

Good Lord. o.o

That is messed up. I've never heard of bureaucratic malarkey at such a high level.

It's pretty frustrating. I mean, when I first started, I was counting down the days until my 18 months were up and I could get out of the store, because the atmosphere there was toxic. Of course, all these awesome positions that I could have gotten opened up while I was stuck there, and then there weren't any once I was actually free to apply.

I suspect the same thing will happen this time. But I do like my new store manager overall so far. Today, when putting together the schedule, she actually said I should leave earlier on Friday of next week since I'll be putting in so many long hours with two basketball games to work late for. The old manager never would have said that.

Hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving. And, if you were crazy enough to go Black Friday shopping, hope you got some good deals. I wasn't allowed to go buy what I was looking at - too expensive...
I did have a good Thanksgiving, and I don't do the Black Friday thing.

What were you looking to get? ninja

A tablet netbook. Around $400.

How much do they normally run?

Usually somewhere around $5 or 600.

I don't really need one vitally - I've got a computer (obviously), and it's a pretty darn good one. But it's also very large (17" widescreen) which makes it hard to transport, and I'd like a small tablet to use as a portable system. Primarily, I'd load it up with the D&D pdfs that I've got, along with some internet usage and such. I wouldn't use it for Photoshop and all that stuff that I've got on my main system. It'd make my D&D games a bit easier, too - I currently use my laptop, which is really big - if I could just use the tablet, I'd take up a lot less space to do what I need to, and it'd be easier to use as a game aid in general. But it's not vital. Still, kind of a bummer - I never get to do Black Friday stuff. My wife and her mom always go out on Black Friday and buy lots of clothes and stuff, and I honestly feel pretty excluded, since I never get to participate - the stuff I'd buy from B.F. sales is also the sort of stuff I'd want for Christmas, or it's higher priced stuff like TVs, etc that we can't afford.
No offense to those who participate, but BF sales just remind me too much of vultures at an all you can eat buffet. Plenty of fighting over stuff that you prolly dont need.

The main things that my wife and her mom get are clothes, for themselves and others. If there's a really great deal on something that they were already wanting to get for someone for X-Mas (such as a digital camera for my sister in law a couple of years ago), then they might take advantage of that, too. But it's mostly clothes, which you can apparently get some great bargains on. I wouldn't know - I tend to buy the cheapest stuff that Target has to offer normally. Serves me just fine.
Same for me, only its Wal-Mart. No Target close enough near me.

There's a Walmart closer than a Target to me, but I prefer Target for my shopping. Walmart's got too much of the market share already. Though I tend to buy my neckties at Walmart, because I hate them and don't want to pay more than I have to. And they have these really neat zipper ties...
O.o *has never heard of zipper ties before now* That looks immensely easier.

And as for distance, its like 20 vs 40 miles.
