I live in redneck territory, most of the people I know aren't the brightest bulb in the bunch.

Most of the people in my town would raid HEB or Wal-Mart.

Dude. NEVER go by a Wal-Mart when zombies rise. Firstly, there's the incredible chaos with the human survivors. Second, it'll be a zombie drawing point. Better to browse the mom and pop stores in the middle of nowhere.

I know, I'd head to the gun store 3 miles out of town, Sportsman's Warehouse, and then check to see how the Cabela's is faring, if it was empty it'd be the best place for supplies.

Cabela only packs shotguns and bolt-actions. Neither of which are very effective against swarms of undead. The killing envelope is too small.

Are you ******** kidding?
Mine packs AR-15s, M1 Garands, WASRs, AK-74s, hell, they even had a Barrett!

Wow. That's firepower. Not like in California... liberal scum

Their were several other semiautomatics, but those are the ones I thought of off the top of my head.
They have a very good pistol selection too.

Don't underestimate the power of a bolt action rifle. As long as you've got thirty feet between you and the nearest zombie, you'll be fairly safe when shooting, not to mention you'll only be firing one round at a time, which'll encourage you to make each one count, and if you're quick enough, a bolt action can fire fairly quick (bear in mind, you're only shooting zombies.)

Equipment I have:

-Father's military vest: pouches and pockets, small first-aid kit, holster, holding clips.

-Steel bat: primary weapon

-Bamboo Staff: Not very sturdy, but somewhat useful

-Display Knife: Very strong but short, I'd have to sharpen it. biggrin

-Large Kitchen knives: Really big ones for cutting a chicken in half, about three of those.

-Sports gear: Knee and elbow pads, thick black helmet with padding

I'm no Master Chief, but I think I would be able to take on three zombies at the same time, at most.

You'd get infected through blood splatter or cuts that you sustain.
Firearms are the best choice.

But I plan on buying a MACH IV Kevlar helmet when I turn 18, Ripstop ACU, Blackhawk S.T.R.I.K.E. Kevlar vest, and a gas mask of some sort.

If you're buying kevlar 'cause you plan to get shot, that's one thing, but if you're doing it to prevent zombie bites, you're pissing your money down a hole. Seriously, leather is worlds better than kevlar at stopping sharp objects. Kevlar is made to stop high-speed penetration. Knives and teeth will go through it like it's any other fabric.
I must say though, BDUs are the most comfortable pants I've ever worn. I wear almost nothing else these days.

You think it won't stop a bite? Especially with plate inserts?
Do you think there won't be other people wanting to shoot me?
And no, it's a lot harder to cut through than any other fabric.
And leather gets peirced by anything, it was shitty in the middle ages.

I'd rather be wearing a leather biker jacket than lugging around a ceramic plate on my chest and back. If zombies have mastered firearms, we're ******** no matter what we do, and I'd try to stay out of the way of people who want to shoot me. I'd post warning signs all over at a distance and shoot anyone who comes closer without some form of warning (preferably radio). Leather may get pierced by any form of blade or arrow, but I'm fending off teeth here. I've been bitten by dogs in the foot before with a shoe on. It didn't even bruise.

Ah, well see, there's your problem. California has some of the worst gun laws out there with regards to semiautos.

The plates are actuall very light, especially the soft-plates that this vest uses. I could also use titanium plates I wanted to get a good wallop but more protection.

Staying out of the way might be a tad hard since I won't know where they're set up.

Yeah, but zombies don't usually go for the feet, they'd go for the face or neck, which is why a Underarmour Heatgear face mask is a good idea.

I'd also have one some ESS Striker Vehicle Ops goggles, they'll deflect a .22 bullet, protect my eyes from fragmentation, and keep out dirt and dust.

Don't get me wrong, goggles are almost always a good idea. Don't want to get a facefull of sand when there's zombies about.
Underarmor? That stuff is, like, spandex. How can that s**t protect against a bite? And I was using feet as an example for biting leather, anyway.

It'll help in case you get bitten on the face or neck, it'll take a long while to chew through, it keeps you cool and keeps you from inhaling particles.

The way I see it, if a zombie bites me in the neck, the underarmor will keep their saliva from coming in contact with my gaping wound, but it won't actually stop the wound from happening. However, I am still missing about 2" of my jugular.
*cough* I'm going to go back to a conversation some people were having a few pages back. I'm sorry. But if I saw an orphan in a store that I was looting I'd have to rescue it. I can't leave people behind like that. (If it was an infected orphan, fine, ******** that thing, but uninfected? Really?) However, I would not shove 50 kids onto a bus and have them do nothing but consume my resources. I know what Africa's like and I know that any untrained 7 year old is just as deadly with an automatic as any untrained 30 year old.

Just like to throw it out there before I go to class, but the way I see it, the most likely form of zombie we'll see is actually closer to Firefly's Reavers.

You wouldn't shoot them before he rips that out?

And even if you do die you don't add one to their numbers, unless it's parasitic.
