I'm sorry, but this just sounds like whining. So new people get more stuff than we did when we joined. Boo hoo. Really, that just makes us, the people who had to work hard for our good items, know the satisfaction of finally getting a decent outfit or finally finishing a quest. I mean, don't get me wrong, I am sad to see the peasant clothes go, but they will always be in the shops. I know it's unfair, or whatever, but there's definitely more useful things to argue about.

Oh, of course there are more useful things to argue about. But.. I guess.. I'm one of those people who just sticks around Gaia because I like the avatars. God knows I don't get much conversation out of Gaia anymore.. and I haunt deviantART and LiveJournal much more often.. so at least to me, it's disheartening to see this happen.

I remeber when I had to wear those

would say "Hey newb." and stuff like that.
Now, I have 3 mules and have been on
Gaia since 'o3. I think that the newb
should have to go through the same thing
that I and other Gaiains had to go
through. Making my first thread,
bumping, questing for so long.... Damn,
it was hard getting decent clothes. Newb should have to work just as hard.

I think your petition has merit.

When I first flounced onto Gaia, I sold my peasant clothes and ran around naked for a while. When I finally earned enough money to buy clothes, I kept that outfit for over a year, mostly because I rarely (if ever) frequented Gaia.

Once I came back and started actively posting, I broke out of my old outfit (which was a Mami Top, Black Vest, Those 90s gloves, goth boots, goth pants, and shades) and got myself a good set of new duds.

Then I got more.

And more.

I still feel fullfilled every time I purcahse something that I've wanted ever since I first came to Gaia, as well as creating new outfits. Having a set of three outfits handed off at the start would have only detracted from my experience.

Sure, everybody still knows that they're newb clothes, and you'll probably still want to post and quest for better items, but your incentive is removed.

You aren't running around half naked like a blithering idiot, trying to scrounge up enough money to be able to cover your digital a**.

I don't really agree with this. I understand where you're coming from, but I don't believe that to be grounds to chuck the newbie packs entirely.

So, mostly, what you're saying is that they don't have to work to get their stuff, because they're given all these things at the beginning, yes? Or at least, their incentive for going out and buying things is taken away. I don't think that's really true. It may be true for those people who don't really care what their avatar looks like, those people who are just here for the forums, or here because their friends dragged them onto the site, but certainly not for everyone. Weather or not I got all those items at the beginning, I would still go questing for cooler things. The only differece would be that I have a variety of clothing to start with and play around with instead of the ever-so-affordable peasant garb.

You say that your avatar is one of your favorite parts of Gaia. Well, without clothes, the newbies don't get to play with it! This gives them the chance to mix-and-match, and have fun with one of the major parts of Gaia right from the start. There's not that much flexibility when all you can afford is peasant clothing.

The clothing, with three different colors per item, and a butt-load of different items, allows even newbies to have original avatars, right from the start. Everyone wants to be original, right? mrgreen

The new clothing doesn't take away that feeling of acomplishment when you've completed a quest, or bought your first nifty-looking article of clothing. There's no reason that it would. (Aaaaand... My train of thought died. xd )

I don't think the newb packs are going to change things as drastically as you're making it out to be.

I have no doubt that new users will continue to go out and quest for more. It just seems to be.. one of those things, you know? That satisfaction that you have when you're new and you can finally.. clothe yourself! XD It's just one of those things. We all went through it.

One of the reasons that my avatar is my favorite part of Gaia is because of how hard I've worked to accumulate what I have. For example, I rarely wear my duckie hat anymore. But I would never get rid of it..! I wear my OMG because of the fuss I went through to get it.. I remember all of the times I envied other users because they had fairy wings and I couldn't afford them.
I'm not saying that having a starter set makes newbs any richer. But.. like.. it just gives them this safety net that we never had. If two users were to start right now, one with the older starter, and one with the new starter set, could you disagree that the one with the new set would undoubtedly get farther quicker?
